The emphasis that is presently put on clean and integrated technologies, does not imply that
the conventional environmental technologies,
developed for end-of-pipe treatment, will become
obsolete. Development of new processes,
other production methods and complete
different ways to satisfy human needs which
have neglectable impact on environment, will
take decades. Besides no activity will be completely
without a, potential, environmental impact.
Furthermore, development of these lowenvironmental
impact processes can make
good use of those very effective and efficient
technologies developed originally for removing
pollutants under often difficult process
conditions. The'end-of-pipe technology' will
not disappear. It will get integrated more into
the processes.
