3Er is een toename van het aanbod van e-health-toepassingen in Nederland, dat blijkt onder meer uit de e-health monitor 2016 (www.e-health-monitor.nl). Eén van de aanbevelingen uit deze monitor is dat meer onderzoek moet plaatsvinden naar veilige en effectieve e-health-toepassingen. In dit artikel bundelen onderzoekers van verschillende kenniscentra hun ervaringen en beschrijven de door hen geleerde lessen die zijn gebaseerd op diverse onderzoeksprojecten.

De Regiegroep van de topsector Life Sciences & Health wil een impuls geven aan initiatieven die praktijkgericht onderzoek op het gebied van Health betreffen. De redenen hiervoor zijn de relatief bescheiden positie van Health vergeleken bij de Life Sciences in de eerdere agendering onder de topsector en de verwachting dat praktijkgericht onderzoek door hogescholen een substantiële bijdrage kan leveren aan de doelstellingen onder het topsectorenbeleid. Daarom is opdracht gegeven tot het opstellen van een agenda voor praktijkgericht onderzoek “Health”. Deze agenda moet leiden tot samenwerking met een solide economische component tussen hogescholen, eventuele andere kennisinstellingen en publieke en private partijen uit de beroepspraktijk. De Agenda Praktijkgericht Onderzoek Health is ingedeeld in vier overkoepelende thema’s (A - D) waarop het onderzoek van hogescholen zich zou moeten richten. Binnen elk thema zijn onderwerpen benoemd die op basis van deze verkenning prioriteit verdienen.

In de regio Arnhem-Nijmegen start een nieuw initiatief: het Digital Health Challenge Lab. Hierin creëren regionale partners een inwonergedreven zorginnovatie-aanpak waarin de frustraties en wensen van inwoners, woningcorporaties, zorgprofessionals en zorgorganisaties beantwoord en opgelost worden. Denk hierbij aan (eigen) gezondheid, het zorgaanbod en het zorgproces. Dit vraaggestuurde innoveren is een verschil met de ‘oude’ situatie, waarbij veelal sprake was van aanbodgestuurde innovatie.

In November 2021, the Lecturer Position at Institutes (L.INT) professorship was established by Saxion and Medical Spectrum Twente and as partners physiotherapy practice Pro-F and the Thoracic Centre Twente, with Sandra van Hogen-Koster as a professor. With this, the first Dutch professorship that focuses on the ideas of Positive Health has been launched.

Introduction: With a shift in healthcare from diagnosis-centered to human- and interprofessional-centered work, allied health professionals (AHPs) may encounter dilemmas in daily work because of discrepancies between values of learned professional protocols and their personal values, the latter being a component of the personal dimension. The personal dimension can be defined as a set of personal components that have a substantial impact on professional identity. In this study, we aim to improve the understanding of the role played by the personal dimension, by answering the following research question: What is known about the personal dimension of the professional identity of AHPs in (allied) health literature? Methods: In the scoping review, databases, CINAHL, ERIC, Medline, PubMed, and PsychINFO were searched for studies focusing on what is regarded as ‘the personal dimension of professional identity’ of AHPs in the health literature; 81 out of 815 articles were included and analyzed in this scoping review. A varying degree of attention for the personal dimension within the various allied health professions was observed. Result: After analysis, we introduce the concept of four aspects in the personal dimension of AHPs. We explain how these aspects overlap to some degree and feed into each other. The first aspect encompasses characteristics like gender, age, nationality, and ethnicity. The second aspect consists of the life experiences of the professional. The third involves character traits related to resilience and virtues. The fourth aspect, worldview, is formed by the first three aspects and consists of the core beliefs and values of AHPs, paired with personal norms. Discussion: These four aspects are visualized in a conceptual model that aims to make AHPs more aware of their own personal dimension, as well as the personal dimension of their colleagues intra- and interprofessionally. It is recommended that more research be carried out to examine how the personal dimension affects allied health practice.

In deze literatuurstudie werden vier databanken doorzocht met behulp van trefwoorden zoals chronic disease, e-health, factors en suggested interventions. Kwalitatieve, kwantitatieve en mixed methods-studies werden meegenomen. Uit de data van de 22 artikelen die werden geïncludeerd in de studie, blijken leeftijd, geslacht, inkomen, opleidingsniveau, etnische achtergrond en woonplaats (stad of platteland) in meer of mindere mate van invloed te zijn op het gebruik van e-health. In de gezondheidszorg en preventie is het gebruik van ICT niet meer weg te denken. Doel van het gebruik van informatie- en communicatietechnologie via internet (ehealth) en apps (m-health) is om de gezondheid en de gezondheidszorg te ondersteunen en te verbeteren. E-health kan geheel zelfstandig door een patiënt, cliënt of burger gevolgd worden –voorbeelden zijn een online cursus of deelname aan een online platform waarop informatie en lotgenotencontact centraal staan. Dan is er sprake van zelfmanagement. Ook kan e-health telefonisch, via e-mail of face-to-face begeleid worden door een professional. Dit wordt blended care genoemd. Hierbij hebben patiënt/cliënt en professional op bepaalde afgesproken tijdstippen contact om het verloop van bijvoorbeeld de online cursus te bespreken. Daarnaast wordt een onderscheid gemaakt tussen aanvulling, waarbij e-health aanvullend is op face-to-face contact, en substitutie, waarbij e-health in plaats komt van face-to-face zorg. Hoe dan ook: e-health gaat een belangrijke plaats krijgen in het zorg- en preventielandschap.

Background/Objectives: Digital technologies and data-driven approaches are rapidly transforming healthcare practice and enabling more personalized and preventive care. As personal health data becomes increasingly embedded in healthcare systems, understanding how future healthcare professionals interpret these developments is essential for shaping responsive health education. This study aims to identify the factors that students in health-related programs consider important regarding the increasing use of personal health data in healthcare. Methods: An exploratory qualitative focus group study was conducted between March 2024 and July 2025 across five higher education institutions in Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands. Seven focus groups were conducted with forty students from health-related programs, including nursing, public health, occupational therapy, and social work. Participants discussed the use of personal health data in healthcare and reflected on short fictional future scenarios designed to stimulate discussion about possible developments in data-driven healthcare. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis using ATLAS.ti. Results: Three overarching domains were identified: (1) personalization and prevention, (2) data quality and ethical considerations, and (3) organizational implications and conditions. Students described personal health data as a powerful tool for personalization, prevention, and informed decision-making. At the same time, they raised concerns about data reliability, overreliance on automated systems, patient anxiety, potential dehumanization of care, privacy risks, and emerging inequalities related to access to and representation within data systems. Overall, students appeared neither purely techno-optimistic nor technophobic, but articulated nuanced ethical, cultural, and professional tensions surrounding data-driven care. Conclusions: Preparing future healthcare professionals for data-driven healthcare requires integrating critical data literacy, ethical reflection, interdisciplinary collaboration and opportunities to critically engage with the societal and professional implications of data-driven technologies into health professional education, while ensuring that organizational conditions support the responsible use of personal health data.

Background: Increasing health literacy (HL) in children could be an opportunity for a more health literate future generation. The aim of this scoping review is to provide an overview of how HL is conceptualized and described in the context of health promotion in 9–12-year-old children. Methods: A systematic and comprehensive search for ‘health literacy’ and ‘children’ and ‘measure’ was performed in accordance with PRISMA ScR in PubMed, Embase.com and via Ebsco in CINAHL, APA PsycInfo and ERIC. Two reviewers independently screened titles and abstracts and evaluated full-text publications regarding eligibility. Data was extracted systematically, and the extracted descriptions of HL were analyzed qualitatively using deductive analysis based on previously published HL definitions. Results: The search provided 5,401 original titles, of which 26 eligible publications were included. We found a wide variation of descriptions of learning outcomes as well as competencies for HL. Most HL descriptions could be linked to commonly used definitions of HL in the literature, and some combined several HL dimensions. The descriptions varied between HL dimensions and were not always relevant to health promotion. The educational setting plays a prominent role in HL regarding health promotion. Conclusion: The description of HL is truly diverse and complex encompassing a wide range of topics. We recommend adopting a comprehensive and integrated approach to describe HL dimensions, particularly in the context of health promotion for children. By considering the diverse dimensions of HL and its integration within educational programs, children can learn HL skills and competencies from an early age.
