OVERIGE BIJDRAGE
Based on his personal experience, the author aims to examine some of the key competencies that he considers essential for facilitators of group activities in arts-based environmental education (AEE). In this, participants are encouraged to enhance their sensibility to the environment through artistic approaches. A case in point is a workshop called “making a little me”. Its participants sculpt – while keeping their eyes closed – a clay version of their own seated body in miniature. When guiding such a workshop, it is of critical importance, according to the author, to encourage the participants to suspend their judgments on the art works of others. The facilitator should make every effort to provide a safe environment by practicing “holding space”.

This document outlines a facilitation manual that was used by the student facilitators of the Living Labs in the Caribbean Netherlands. It is written using the metaphorical approach that is applied in the magazine Europe Today: Special Issue on Living Labs (Ronner, et al., 2024), as the outcomes in the Invest4Excellence project (in which that magazine was developed) indicated that using metaphors supports reflection on Living Lab performance and dynamics. By using something familiar (cooking, travelling, DIY project), thinking about a complex concept like Living Labs becomes easier. In this facilitation manual, student facilitators are taken on a culinary journey past the essentials of what is a Living Lab, their role as facilitator, and power dynamics in multistakeholder processes like Living Labs. It culminates in a six-course 'Living Lab Facilitator Menu' outlining the steps within the ABCD-methodology that the student facilitators followed during the Food Resilient Futures project, as well as several tools for facilitation to be used as inspiration for their work in the Living Labs.
NIET BEKEND
Objectives: Simulation is an important learning activity in nursing education. There is little knowledge about dialogue and communication between students and facilitators in a virtual simulation setting. The current study, conducted in Norway, explores the dialogic teaching approaches applied by facilitators in a virtual classroom and adapt an analytic tool from a physical classroom in lower education to a virtual classroom in higher education. Methods: Sixteen virtual simulation sessions of groups with nursing students were video-taped. The videos were coded with a coding scheme developed for physical classrooms and adapted to the virtual setting. The dialogic approaches from the facilitator were analysed using descriptive analysis. Results: The most frequently used approaches from the facilitator were categorized as listening (“Modelling prompts and body language to encourage continuation”) and asking (“Big questions”). The most frequent pattern seen in the use of dialogic approaches fall under the category listening. Conclusions: The coding scheme is suitable to analyse facilitators’ dialogic approaches in a virtual setting in nursing education. Further research should examine how the facilitator can strategically deploy dialogic approaches in other types of simulations with students. Innovation: The coding scheme was developed from lower to higher education, and from a physical to a virtual setting.

Healthcare settings are increasingly adopting nature-based interventions (NBIs) to support users’ health and well-being, but these interventions are often underutilized. To get a grip on utilization problems, insight into factors that affect use and uptake of NBIs in routine care is needed. This scoping review aimed to provide an overview of factors that facilitate or impede successful implementation of NBIs in hospitals, long-term care facilities for the elderly (LTCF), and rehabilitation centers. Systematic searches were conducted across various databases to identify studies that collected qualitative and/or quantitative data on the implementation of NBIs in healthcare settings. Findings were classified into the five domains of the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. A total of 57 articles were included in the review. The articles provide detailed insight into facilitating and impeding implementation factors related to the intervention (e.g., awareness, adaptability, type of natural elements, accessibility, safety, weather conditions, comfort, privacy, supportive design factors, activities). Other found factors related to the inner setting (e.g., culture, implementation climate) and individuals (e.g., characteristics and opportunities of stakeholders). Factors related to the outer setting (e.g., financing) and implementation process (e.g., teaming, assessing needs, planning, engaging, doing, integration in care and therapy, reflection and evaluation, maintenance) also emerged, but to a lesser extent. This review identified a broad range of factors important for the successful implementation of NBIs, which can guide implementation of future NBIs. To complement these findings, future studies should consider conducting implementation studies
