3Le Grand Départ Tour the France 2015 took place in Utrecht on the 4th and 5th of July 2015. In advance to the first two stages a major side-event program is carried out which started a 100 days before the 4th of July. Utrecht University, School of Governance carried out a research to the legacy of Le Grand Départ Tour the France in Utrecht in cooperation with Utrecht University of Applied sciences, Hanze University of Applied sciences and the Mulier Institute. This research is commissioned by the local organizing committee of Le Grand Départ in Utrecht and is based on the project plan in which several legacy goals are mentioned. In this abstract we focus us on two types of legacy: 1) organizational legacy; what is the experienced cooperation between the several governmental and commercial organizations before, during and after Le Grand Départ? To what extend do organizations in Utrecht cooperate to create any social legacy and to what extend are the organizations focusing on creating leverage? 2) The social legacy; to what extend do the residents of Utrecht experience the side-event program which is carried out before and during Le Grand Départ.
A link between the elite sport event and the legacy goals is created by organizing an ambitious side-event program, leveraging existing local government policies and programs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the side-event program and gain insight in how a major elite sport event can be socially leveraged through a side-event program.

Onderzoek naar de waarde van sportevenementen is vooral gericht op impact, maar niet op de manieren waarop die impact tot stand is gekomen (leverage). Met het bestuderen van de leverage mechanismen van evenementen Chalip (2006, p. 113), is het doel om niet alleen de waarde van een evenement te evalueren, maar ook om te leren van de ‘hefboomwerking’ van een evenement. Inzicht krijgen in deze werking kan van meerwaarde zijn bij het indienen van een toekomstig bid en/of de organisatie van toekomstige evenementen en het creëren van legacy. Dit was ook het geval bij de evaluatie van de legacy van Le Grand Départ Tour de France 2015 in Utrecht. In ons onderzoek hebben we ons gericht op de waarde van Le Grand Départ voor Utrecht en specifiek op de hefboomwerking (leverage mechanisme) van het evenement.
Een mixed-method is gebruikt om inzicht te krijgen in het organisatieproces van de waarde van Le Grand Départ:1) 11 focusgroepen (voor en na het evenement), waarin 38 stakeholders van 13 side-events waren vertegenwoordigd. 2) Persoonlijke interviews met 21 stakeholders van de side-events en het projectteam Le Tour Utrecht. De bevindingen uit deze focusgroepen en interviews leidden tot een inzicht in de legacy mechanismen en leverage strategie. 3) 653 enquêtes zijn afgenomen bij de side-events om inzicht te krijgen in de ervaringen van de deelnemers en de bezoekers.
Rond 250 side-events werden georganiseerd in de periode van een jaar voor het evenement tot en met Le Grand Départ. Het side-event programma had 138.000 deelnemers, 570.000 bezoekers en 7.500 vrijwilligers voor het uitvoeren van alle activiteiten.
De bottom-up benadering van de projectorganisatie voor het uitvoeren van het side-event-programma resulteerde in meer side-events dan dat de projectorganisatie ooit zelf zou kunnen uitvoeren. Tientallen lokale culturele, sport en welzijnsorganisaties werkten nauw samen bij de organisatie van de side-events. Naast de enorme omvang van het side-event programma, heeft de samenwerking tussen de vele lokale organisaties geleid tot nieuwe contacten tussen de organisaties en nieuwe concrete samenwerkingen welke langer duren dan de periode van het evenement. Het gevoel van eigenaarschap over de side-events was zo hoog dat verschillende lokale organisaties besloten om ook het afgelopen jaar de side-events weer uit te voeren.
Deze studie toont ons dat het hebben van een strategische (bottom-up) aanpak voor het creëren van legacy, en het betrekken van lokale organisaties en inwoners, een effectieve aanpak is voor het creeren van legacy bij sportevenementen.

‘Legacy: Participatory Music Practices with Elderly People as a Resource for the Well-being of Healthcare Professionals’ was a qualitative research project into the learning and well-being of hospital nurses and nursing home caregivers working with vulnerable elderly people and participating in live music practices Meaningful Music in Healthcare (MiMiC) and Music and Dementia in the Netherlands.
The data collection (2016-2019) employed an ethnographic approach and data triangulation of participant observation, episodic interviews and group discussions. The constructivist grounded theory approach to data analysis proceeded from sensitising concepts to initial and focused coding, ultimately reconstructed into a thick description merging empirical data, theory and the researcher’s interpretations. The emerging core categories, Participation, Experience and Learning Benefits, were conceptualised within an epistemological framework of philosophical pragmatism.
The findings suggest that, through an emerging community of practice, healthcare professionals could collaborate with musicians to connect with patients or residents. The collaboration enabled the use of shared musical experiences as a resource for compassionate care. Still, allowing oneself to participate musically and showing emotional vulnerability were challenging. The accumulation of ‘experiencing’ and collegial encouragement supported healthcare professionals’ participation beyond their professional performance.
Person-centred music-making resonated with the values of person-centred care. It enabled healthcare professionals to take time and become engaged with patients or residents in musical situations. Healthcare professionals described gaining new understandings of the patients or residents and each other, which could be seen promoting a cultural shift from task-centredness towards relationship-focused person-centred care.
Musicians’ communication provided new professional insights into teamwork. Also, observing patients and residents’ responses to the music evoked sympathetic joy in healthcare professionals. Looking through the eyes of ‘the other’ was central for nurses and caregivers’ meaning-making of the value of music-making and awareness of its impact on patients, residents and themselves. The perceived benefits of the music practices for healthcare professionals’ job resources and satisfaction seemed connected to changes in care relationships, work atmosphere, sense of mindfulness and recognition.
The conclusions of the research suggest that participatory music practices might be considered as supportive of delivering person-centred care. The findings could be applied in training programmes and professional development of musicians, nurses and caregivers.

Onderdelen die zijn onderzocht zijn een analyse van de waardering van de bezoekers, de economische impact van het evenement en de organisatorische en maatschappelijke legacy ervan.
