As societies age, the development of resources and strategies that foster healthy ageing from the beginning of life become increasingly important. Social and healthcare professionals are key agents in this process; therefore, their training needs to be in agreement with societal needs. We performed a scoping review on professional competences for social and health workers to adequately promote healthy ageing throughout life, using the framework described by Arksey and O’Malley and the Joanna Briggs Institute Guidelines. A stakeholder consultation was held in each of the participating countries, in which 79 experts took part. Results show that current literature has been excessively focused on the older age and that more attention on how to work with younger population groups is needed. Likewise, not all disciplines have equally reflected on their role before this challenge and interprofessional approaches, despite showing promise, have not been sufficiently described. Based on our results, health and social professionals working to promote healthy ageing across the lifespan will need sound competences regarding person-centred communication, professional communication, technology applications, physiological and pathophysiological aspects of ageing, social and environmental aspects, cultural diversity, programs and policies, ethics, general and basic skills, context and self-management-related skills, health promotion and disease prevention skills, educational and research skills, leadership skills, technological skills and clinical reasoning. Further research should contribute to establishing which competences are more relevant to each discipline and at what level they should be taught, as well as how they can be best implemented to effectively transform health and social care systems.
Substantial and continuous shifts in skills demands urge us to rethink education, labour market and reintegration policies and practices. In this article, we argue for a more skills based approach to (re)integration. This skills based (re)integration practice is based more on up-to-date, complete and validated skills sets of candidates, than on diplomas and other, more or less, outdated and incomplete proxies to one’s current skills. Such a new reintegration practice seems feasible if the actual and complete skills set of an individual becomes the starting point for both matching, guidance and (up/re)skilling efforts. Intersectoral mobility, alternative career pathways and suitable training and development routes can be designed on a more fine-grained skills basis, with occupations considered more as dynamic sets of tasks requiring specific skills. This new (re)integration practice presupposes a common skills language, which is being developed in the Netherlands, Competent NL. Sectoral and intersectoral experiments with skills instruments using this language, such as skills passports, are conducted to optimize their quality and effectiveness. Since first experiments with skills instruments seem promising, we argue that more room for experiment is required. So that integration in the labor market can be sustained and reintegration practices can be prevented.
The hard side in total quality management of measurement and data analysis can only be successful if it is replenished with the soft side, the people side. This conclusion has serious consequences for the education of professionals, especially managers. Managers should be trained in soft skills, trained in managing themselves and their relations with others. The recent research done by Meduprof-S focuses on the question which skills are needed and on the extent to which business schools quality standards consider soft skills to be important in the education of managers .
De, bijna oneindige, mogelijkheden van digitale (3D print)technieken prikkelen de geest en zetten aan tot creatief denken. Voorheen onmogelijke vormen worden mogelijk en kunnen op locatie en op maat worden gemaakt. Het (primair) onderwijs ziet grote potentie in 3D (print)technieken als onderwijsthema om structureel en actief mee aan de slag te gaan in de klas, om 21ste Century Skills te ontplooien bij zowel leerkrachten als leerlingen en om als thema in te zetten binnen Wetenschap & Technologie-onderwijs. De onderwijsketen is een cruciale partner in de Human Capital Agenda met haar taak om van jongs af aan kinderen op te leiden tot een moderne professional die kan uitblinken in een snel veranderende innovatie-economie. Met dat doel voor ogen zoekt het primair onderwijs structureel naar manieren om de lesprogramma’s actueel en effectief te houden. Door een toenemend aanbod van 3D (print)technieken en diensten zoeken directies, leerkrachten maar ook het team talentontwikkeling van de Gemeente Enschede naar betrouwbare experts die de scholen advies, begeleiding en (uiteindelijk) professionalisering op maat kunnen bieden. Saxion FabLab Enschede, een publieke moderne makerspace en verbonden aan Saxion Lectoraat Industrial Design, richt zich op de verbinding tussen (HBO) onderwijs, onderzoek en het bedrijfsleven. Sinds de oprichting in 2011 krijgt het FabLab ook structureel vragen vanuit het primair onderwijs (PO) om deze doelgroep hands-on in contact te brengen met moderne (3D) technieken. Waar mogelijk zijn bovengenoemde vragen opgepakt met in samenwerking met scholen en bedrijven. Knelpunten die hierbij naar voren zijn gekomen, zijn dat leerkrachten na de opstart niet weten hoe ze onvermijdelijke technische problemen moeten oplossen en/of het ontbreekt hen de kennis om een volgende verdiepende stap (zelf) te zetten. Gevolg is dat men niet verder komt dan het doen van demonstraties en/of een eerste (simpel) productje, of dat de printers stil in een hoek staan te ver-stoffen. Deze ervaringen uit Enschede zijn in lijn met conclusies van een eerder onderzoek in Flevoland (Van Keulen & van Oenen, 2015) Doel van het traject “3D in de klas” is de bundeling van krachten binnen het consortium rondom de ontwikkeling van uitdagend en uitnodigend Wetenschap & Techniek-onderwijs voor leerling en leerkracht in het primair onderwijs, door leerkrachten te scholen in 3D printen, door lesprogramma’s te ontwikkelen die verder gaan dan het ‘printen van de standaard sleutelhanger’ en door een didactische verbreding te bieden door het koppelen van kennisdomeinen. Het initiatief voor gezamenlijk onderzoek en 3D in de Klas is opgedeeld in drie delen: Deel 1) Mapping the state of the art: leren van eerdere initiatieven en de knelpunten. Deel 2) Doelgroep betrokkenheid in kaart brengen, van leerkrachten en leerlingen, inhoudelijk en organisatorisch. Deel 3) Structurele inbedding, door afstemming op en integratie in de PO-keten. Het voorliggende projectvoorstel beslaat deel 1 van dit traject. Resultaat van dit deelproject hiervan vormt de basis voor deel 2 en 3 in een vervolgtraject, mogelijk in een RAAK-publiek vorm. Saxion FabLab Enschede heeft de afgelopen jaren een actief consortium opgebouwd dat bovenstaande impasse wil doorbreken. Het consortium bestaat naast het FabLab o.a. uit: Saxion Lectoraat Industrial Design en Academie Pedagogiek en Onderwijs, ESV, Stichting Consent, Bètatechtniek, Gemeente Enschede (Team Talentontwikkeling) en het bedrijf LAYaLAY.
Students in Higher Music Education (HME) are not facilitated to develop both their artistic and academic musical competences. Conservatoires (professional education, or ‘HBO’) traditionally foster the development of musical craftsmanship, while university musicology departments (academic education, or ‘WO’) promote broader perspectives on music’s place in society. All the while, music professionals are increasingly required to combine musical and scholarly knowledge. Indeed, musicianship is more than performance, and musicology more than reflection—a robust musical practice requires people who are versed in both domains. It’s time our education mirrors this blended profession. This proposal entails collaborative projects between a conservatory and a university in two cities where musical performance and musicology equally thrive: Amsterdam (Conservatory and University of Amsterdam) and Utrecht (HKU Utrechts Conservatorium and Utrecht University). Each project will pilot a joint program of study, combining existing modules with newly developed ones. The feasibility of joint degrees will be explored: a combined bachelor’s degree in Amsterdam; and a combined master’s degree in Utrecht. The full innovation process will be translated to a transferable infrastructural model. For 125 students it will fuse praxis-based musical knowledge and skills, practice-led research and academic training. Beyond this, the partners will also use the Comenius funds as a springboard for collaboration between the two cities to enrich their respective BA and MA programs. In the end, the programme will diversify the educational possibilities for students of music in the Netherlands, and thereby increase their professional opportunities in today’s job market.
In recent years, ArtEZ has worked on a broadly supported strategic research agenda on the themes New Ecologies of Matter (ecological challenges), Social Equity (social-societal issues), (Un)Learning Practices (educational innovations) and (Non)CybernEtic Fabric (technological developments). Building on these strategic themes, the ArtEZ Research Collective as developed an international research strategy to become a valuable partner in the relevant Horizon Europe (HEU) areas of Environment, Industry and Social science and humanities. With its specific knowledge position and approach from arts and creativity, ArtEZ is convinced that it can play a distinctive role in European consortia to tackle various challenges in these areas, in particular from the perspective and research topics of the professorships Fashion and Tactical Design. To achieve its ambitions and goals in its targeted research topics, ArtEZ is convinced that a combination of international connections and local applications is key for successful impact. Building upon existing relations and extending the international research position requires extra efforts, e.g., by developing a strong international framework of state-of-the-art research results, impacts and ambitions. Therefore ArtEZ needs to (further) build on both its international network and its supportive infrastructure. With this proposal ArtEZ is presenting its goals and efforts to work on its international recognition as a valuable research partner, and to broaden its international network in cutting-edge research and other stakeholders. With regards to its supporting infrastructure, ArtEZ has the ambition to expand the impact of the Subsidy Desk to become a professional partner to the professorships. This approach requires a further professionalization and extension of both the Subsidy Desk organization and its services, and developing and complementing skills, expertise and competences to comply to the European requirements.
