The story of Triodos Bank over the last 20 years reads as a success story. It is also a story about how principles are guiding business. However, principles need a pragmatic approach in order to be successful. Over the past 30 years the bank’s management has succeeded in balancing a clear focus to create value for society with the objectives of a financially sound company. This case will describe this development, focusing on a period of rapid growth from 1990 to 2009, in which the organization grew from a small entity to a serious bank.

In recent years, the debate about the design of the monetary system has become increasingly prevalent. A major topic within this debate is central bank digital currency or CBDC for short. A survey by the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) shows that in 2022, nine in ten central banks (CB) explored a digital variant of their own currency (Kosse & Mattei, 2022). In the euro area, the European Central Bank (ECB) is conducting a wide-range study of the pros and cons of a CBDC, in the form of a digital euro. Other CBs are at different stages of the research cycle. The Chinese central bank is experimenting extensively with its e-CNY and has been conducting research since 2014 (Luo, 2022; Prasad, 2021). The Swedish Riksbank published its first report on the possible designs and effects of the e-krona in September 2017 (Sveriges Riksbank, 2017). Against all these various studies and experiments is the Bahamian Sand dollar, the world's first, by 2020, fully implemented CBDC. The Bahamas is not the only country; in 2022, Jamaica fully introduced the JAM-DEX (CBDC Tracker, 2023). Since CBDCs are a relatively new phenomenon, there is logically little empirical data to support the potential advantages and disadvantages. The fully implemented Sand dollar can confirm or refute some of the claimed theoretical advantages and disadvantages, and lessons can be distilled from this case for the introduction of other CBDCs. This paper first discusses the (theoretical) motivations for implementing the Sand dollar, then discusses its operation and current low adaptation rates. Finally, it derives lessons that can be used in other CBDC cases.

Purpose – This study aims to investigate the tourism stakeholders’ opinions about developing smart tourism(ST) in the West Bank, Palestine. This research fulfils intriguing gaps in the literature on stakeholders’perceptions and views on developing ST in the West Bank, Palestine.Design/methodology/approach – The research study employed a qualitative methodology using semi-structured interviews with nineteen respondents. All data collected were in April and May 2022.Findings – The findings show that the understanding of ST-related stakeholders in the West Bank is mainlylinked to information communication and technology, digitalisation, and online use of technology within thetourism industry. Moreover, the results show the high potential of developing the ST industry in the WestBank. However, this study revealed that challenges could affect the West Bank’s development at differentlevels, such as managerial, technological, awareness, public sector restrictions, infrastructural, financial andpolitical challenges.Research limitations/implications – This research has some shortcomings. The first restriction of thisstudy was the political restrictions and the checkpoints, which limited the reach of some of the participants whoreside in Jerusalem or other cities outside of the West Bank, which delayed the time of the interviews orconverted it to be done through a digital platform. Secondly, the sample of this study was small in tourismstakeholders in the West Bank.Originality/value – To the author’s knowledge, this paper is the first on ST from the stakeholders’perspectives. Therefore, this study has set the first step in closing the existing gap in the literature.

Purpose: This study aims to systematically identify items that measure commu-nicative participation from measurement instruments that measure (aspects of) communication and/or participation in children and adolescents (5–18 years old) with communication disorders, for developing an item bank. Method: A systematic literature search was performed in MEDLINE and Embase to search for patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) or parent reports measuring aspects of communication and/or participation in children and adolescents. The individual items of the included measurement instruments were reviewed on whether they measure communicative participation. The items were then classified into one of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) for Children and Youth (World Health Organization, 2007) domains of activities and participation. Results: A total of 29 instruments were found, nine PROMs and 20 parent reports. One hundred forty-five items were identified that measure communica-tive participation. From these 145 items, 74 were retrieved from PROMs (51%), and 71 were retrieved from parent reports (49%). The majority of items were classified in ICF Domain 7, interpersonal interactions and relationships (73.8%), followed by Domain 8, major life areas (13.8%), and Domain 9, community, social, and civic life (8.3%). Only a few items were found in Domains 5 and 6, and none was found in Domains 1, 2, and 4. Conclusions: We identified 145 items potentially useful for developing an item bank addressing communicative participation in children and adolescents with communication disorders. However, item development in collaboration with the target population is needed to ensure that these items fully reflect the construct.
