Op basis van een literatuurstudie biedt dit rapport een overzicht van sleutelvariabelen voor de transitie naar Natuur-inclusieve Landbouw (NIL) vanuit een multi-level en multi-dimensionaal systeemperspectief. Het doel van de literatuurstudie is om te analyseren welke succes- en faalfactoren in de literatuur genoemd worden om de transitie naar een natuurinclusieve landbouw mogelijk te maken dan wel te versnellen. Deze studie geeft daarmee handen en voeten aan een handelingsperspectief voor NIL. Dit handelingsperspectief vergt maatwerk per gebied, en kan verschillen afhankelijk van het schaalniveau waarop geacteerd wordt, en is afhankelijk van de mate waarin sleutelfactoren en betrokken actoren elkaar versterken of beperken.

Over the last 40 years, Sport for All policies – aiming at encouraging the sports participation of all citizens, regardless of age, sex, social class, ethnic origin, etc. – were implemented in a number of European countries. This study examines the extent to which a democratisation of club-organised youth sports has occurred. The data are drawn from a large repeated cross-sectional survey among high school boys and girls (aged 13–18) in Flanders, Belgium. Data collected in 1989 (N = 2088), 1999 (N = 1820) and 2009 (N = 1420) are analysed, using multilevel logistic regression. Results indicate that social stratification of club-organised sports participation still persists. Age, sex and socio-economic status (SES) continue to determine the likelihood of club involvement by Flemish youth. For boys, the impact of SES has increased. Also parental sporting capital affects club participation. However, in terms of sex, differences in participation have diminished over time.

This article describes a European project which was aimed at improving the situation of persons with psychiatric or learning disabilities with regard to social participation and citizenship. The project took place in three countries (Estonia, Hungary and the Netherlands) and four cities (Tallinn, Budapest, Amersfoort and Maastricht). The project included research and actions at the policy level, the organizational level and the practice level. At the policy level, the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (United Nations, 2006) and the European Disability Strategy (European Commission, 2010) were used to look at national and local policies, at the reality of the lives of those with disabilities and at the support that professional services offer with regard to participation and inclusion. The project generated a number of insights, recommendations and methods by which to improve the quality of services and increase the number of opportunities for community engagement. In this article, we present some of the lessons learned from the meta-analysis. Although the circumstances in each country are quite different with regard to policy, culture and service systems, it is remarkable that people with disabilities face many of the same problems. The study shows that in all three countries, access to services could be improved. Barriers include bureaucratic procedures and a lack of services. The research identified that in every country and city there are considerable barriers regarding equal participation in the field of housing, work and leisure activities. In addition to financial barriers, there are the barriers of stigma and self-stigmatization. Marginalization keeps people in an unequal position and hinders their recovery and participation. In all countries, professionals need to develop a stronger focus on supporting the participation of their clients in public life and in the development of different roles pertaining to citizenship

The numerous grand challenges around us demand new approaches to build alternative sustainable futures collectively. Whereas these so-called co-design processes are becoming more mainstream, many multi-stakeholder coalitions lack practical guidance in these dynamic and systemic challenges based on entangled relationships, interactions, and experiences between stakeholders and their environments. Although scholars and practitioners convey a lot of co-design theories and methods, there does not seem to be a practical instrument beyond methods that supports new coalitions with an overview of a co-design process to come and in making shared and fundamental co-design decisions. Therefore, this paper proposes the empathic Co-Design Canvas as a new intermediate-level knowledge product existing of eight co-design decision cards, which together make up the Canvas as a whole. The Canvas is based on an existing theoretical framework defined by Lee et al. (2018), an empirical case study, and a diversity of experiences in education and practice. It aims at supporting multi-stakeholder coalitions to flexibly plan, conduct, and evaluate a co-design process. Moreover, the Canvas encourages coalitions to not only discuss the problematic context, a common purpose, envisioned impact, concrete results, and each other’s interests and knowledge, but also power, which can create trust, a more equal level playing field and empathy, and help manage expectations, which is greatly needed to overcome today’s grand challenges.

In this blog, we analyze the (potential) effects of the coronavirus on UN peacekeeping, making use of a number of recent blogs and reports from scholars and think tanks. We argue that peace operations are affected by the coronavirus on three levels: at the level of the operations themselves, at the level of the conflict context and, finally, at the structural level.

More people voted in 2024 than any other year in human history, while often relying on the internet for political information. This combination resulted in critical challenges for democracy. To address these concerns, we designed an exhibition that applied interactive experiences to help visitors understand the impact of digitization on democracy. This late-breaking work addresses the research questions: 1) What do participants, exposed to playful interventions, think about these topics? and 2) How do people estimate their skills and knowledge about countering misinformation? We collected data in 5 countries through showcases held within weeks of relevant 2024 elections. During visits, participants completed a survey detailing their experiences and emotional responses. Participants expressed high levels of self-confidence regarding the detection of misinformation and spotting AI-generated content. This paper contributes to addressing digital literacy needs by fostering engaging interactions with AI and politically relevant issues surrounding campaigning and misinformation.

Food is een belangrijk thema voor Nederland en de Metropoolregio Amsterdam (MRA). Zowel op economisch, sociaal als logistiek niveau heeft Food een grote impact op onze samenleving. En door het toenemend aantal monden in Nederland, die steeds meer en gevarieerd eten, wordt deze impact groter en groter. Dit geldt zeker voor Amsterdam, met haar meer dan 5.000 horecazaken en 4.000 horecadistributeurs in de regio. In dit rapport wordt vanuit een analyse van de Nederlandse Agri & Food Sector, oplossingsrichtingen voor een slimmere en schonere horecadistributie voor Amsterdam en de Metropool Regio Amsterdam ontwikkeld. De horecadistributie in Amsterdam is letterlijk aan het vastlopen door de stijgende vraag naar goederen en de afnemende bereikbaarheid in de stad. Om dit structurele probleem op te lossen zullen zowel de gemeente, de horecadistributeurs en de horecondernemers moeten gaan samenwerken. De gemeente heeft hierbij ook de taak een nieuw level playing field te creëren om deze samenwerking zowel af te dwingen als te faciliteren.
