Many, many comparisons have been drawn in recent years between the current rise of (right-wing) populism and the financial crisis of 2008 that shook and continues to shake Europe to its core, and the tumultuous and horrifying events of the 1930s, which in the end resulted in the Second World War. A number of recent studies which (partially) focus on this decade carry ominous titles like To Hell and Back, The Age of Catastrophe and The Triumph of the Dark. Referred to by some historians as the second Thirty Years’ War, the period from the First World War to the end of the Second still continues to draw much academic and indeed public attention. In many cases, Germany deservedly plays a central role in the analysis, either in the form of the Kaiserreich or the ill-fated Weimar Republic and, of course, Nazi Germany. The five books under review here discuss European history between 1914 and 1950 in general, and that of Germany in particular, in this period. Enthousiast begonnen Bibliotheek Oostland, DOK Delft, Bibliotheek AanZet, Probiblio en Hogeschool Utrecht in juni 2021 aan het Tel mee met Taal-experiment Gecijferdheid Telt Mee!. Aan het einde van dit experiment is het enthousiasme alleen maar toegenomen; gecijferdheid telt écht mee. Het doel van het experiment was tweeledig: inzicht krijgen in hoe gecijferdheid landelijk op de kaart gezet kan worden, én de doelgroep bereiken. In dit artikel beschrijven we het verloop van het project per projectpartner en bespreken we de waardevolle geleerde lessen.

This interview-based article about Hubert Hermans, founder of The Dialogical Self Theory (DST), was intended to determine the founder’s personal relationship to the construction and development of his theory and to provide a portrait of the engaged scientist and vulnerable researcher at work. DST lends itself to interdisciplinary research and practice, and is used in diverse fields and contexts (e.g. psychotherapy; bereavement scholarship; higher education). However, little has been written about the founder of the theory. I embarked on this project to illuminate the researcher and theorist as an individual who taps into personal material for practical and conceptual learning, and to honour Hermans’s contribution to the field of psychology, in the spirit of a Festschrift. In deze rede zal ik vanuit het heden via de theorie en de wijze waarop theorie en praktijk verbonden zijn, een sprong maken naar de toekomst. Eerst zal ik een korte uiteenzetting geven over de positie van Nederland op het gebied van innovatie en ondernemerschap. Daarna zal ik een schets geven van het theoretische kader en de paradigma´s die naar mijn mening denken en doen in relatie tot innovatie en ondernemerschap bepalen. Tot slot wil ik een brug slaan naar de toekomst en de rol die het lectoraat Ondernemen en Innoveren (O&I) zal spelen om vernieuwing tot stand te brengen en het concept ondernemend innoveren vorm te geven.

This research concerning the experience and future of zoos was carried out from 2011-2012 and takes regional ideas concerning Zoo Emmen as well as global visions into account. The research focuses partly on Zoo Emmen, its present attractions and visitors while also comparing and contrasting visions on the future in relationship to other international zoos in the world. In this way, remarkable experiences and ideas will be identified and in the light of them, it can serve as inspiration for stakeholders of zoos at large. The main research subject is a look at the future zoos in view of: The Zoo Experience – an international experience benchmark; The Zoo of the Future – a Scenario Planning approach towards the future; The virtual zoo - zoo’s in the internet domain.
