De coronapandemie heeft een enorme impact op het mentale welzijn van de Nederlandse bevolking. Gebaseerd op een grootschalig panelonderzoek (N = 22.696) naar de sociale impact van COVID-19, onderzoekt dit artikel ten eerste welke sociale groepen het meest vatbaar zijn voor de gevolgen van de pandemie op de geestelijke gezondheid. Ten tweede onderzoeken we of sociaal kapitaal bescherming biedt tegen deze gevolgen. We vinden dat de impact van COVID-19 op de geestelijke gezondheid aanzienlijk is en dat deze in de loop van 2020 is toegenomen. Vrouwen, jongeren, respondenten met lage inkomens en/of een slechte zelf ervaren gezondheid, ervaren relatief meer angst en stress als gevolg van de pandemie. We vinden geen verschil tussen respondenten met of zonder migratieachtergrond. Sociaal kapitaal (ontvangen steun, vertrouwen in mensen en in instellingen) heeft het verwachte effect: hoe meer steun en vertrouwen, hoe minder angst en stress. Er is een bemiddelingseffect. Ouderen, respondenten met hoge inkomens en/of een goede gezondheid ervaren minder angst en stress, deels omdat ze meer sociaal kapitaal hebben. Dit is anders voor vrouwen. Zij zouden zelfs meer angst en stress ervaren in vergelijking met mannen, ware het niet dat zij meer sociaal kapitaal hebben. We concluderen dus dat sociaal kapitaal inderdaad enige bescherming biedt tegen de negatieve gevolgen van COVID-19 voor de geestelijke gezondheid.

Motor learning is particularly challenging in neurological rehabilitation: patients who suffer from neurological diseases experience both physical limitations and difficulties of cognition and communication that affect and/or complicate the motor learning process. Therapists (e.g.,, physiotherapists and occupational therapists) who work in neurorehabilitation are therefore continuously searching for the best way to facilitate patients during these intensive learning processes. To support therapists in the application of motor learning, a framework was developed, integrating knowledge from the literature and the opinions and experiences of international experts. This article presents the framework, illustrated by cases from daily practice. The framework may assist therapists working in neurorehabilitation in making choices, implementing motor learning in routine practice, and supporting communication of knowledge and experiences about motor learning with colleagues and students. The article discusses the framework and offers suggestions and conditions given for its use in daily practice.
The corona pandemic has forced higher education (HE) institutes to transition to online learning, with subsequent implications for student wellbeing. Aims: This study explored influences on student wellbeing throughout the first wave of the corona crisis in the Netherlands by testing serial mediation models of the relationships between perceived academic stress, depression, resilience, and HE support.

Point-of-Care devices are broadly viewed as an important contribution to reduce the costs in our healthcare system. Cheap, quick, and reliable testing close to the point of need, can help early detection and thus reduce treatment costs, while improving the quality of life. An important challenge in the realization is the development of the individual cartridges that should be produced in large quantities at low costs. Especially for applications where high sensitivity is required, these cartrgidges will typically have a complex design. In this project we want to develop a manufacturing strategy for large scale production of cartridges based on photonic sensing chips, currently the most sensitive sensors available. A typical sensor cartridge with photonic sensors would comprise the sensor chip, an interface with active components (light source and detectors), the bio-active layer that captures the biomarkers to be detected and a protective package. In addition, there is the choice to integrate the active components in the package (making the interface an electrical one) or placing them in the read-out unit (making the interface an optical one). Finally, testing of the sensor cartridges should also be part of the process. A suitable manufacturing strategy would offer the lowest total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) of the production and use of the cartrdiges. Important in the considereations is that steps can be carried out at the wafer level, at the die level, and at the cartridge level. Because choices for a specific solution will strongly influence the possibilities for other steps, the development of a producitons strategy is far from straightforward. In this project we want to study the possibilities of the individual processes at the three levels mentioned (wafer, die, and cartridge), and in parallel develop a theoretical framework for finding the best strategy in this type of complex production processes.
