from the article: The ever-increasing specialization of scientific research, combined with the complex challenges that health in society is facing calls for more interdisciplinary design research. However, healthcare and creative researchers come from different worlds that do not automatically align and intensive collaboration between different disciplines is often not without obstacles. We analyzed ten projects that are in the process of interdisciplinary research on solutions for living with dementia, obesity or loneliness. The question we address is: Which strategies do health and creative professionals use to work together in design research? We found that an array of strategies is used to foster collaboration as recommended in literature. However, the strategies to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in research recommended in literature do not easily fit the unpredictability of design research projects and the complexity that comes from doing research in health practice.

As a result, businesses working on these issues increasinglyfind themselves doing something they never thought they would: workingwith competitors.This report provides research-based advice for creating successfulcompetitor collaborations for sustainability.Competitors come together to:• reduce reputational risks that threaten an entire industry• support new technology development by sharing uncertain returns andpooling knowledge• develop shared standards for businesses within an industry• communicate effectively with regulators on public policyThe competitor collaborations we discuss in this guide have two keycharacteristics:• They include direct competitors that sell similar products and services.• They address a sustainability issue, such as climate change adaptationfor coffee farmers, worker and community health and safety,hazardous chemical discharge, or the market for sustainable products.Often competitor collaborations include other stakeholders such asnongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and government (see NBSguide on multi-sector partnerships for more information on cross-sectorcollaborations). This report specifically looks at collaborations involvingdirect competitors.Despite their increasing popularity and success, competitorcollaborations are not easy to form or to sustain. Businesses incompetitor collaborations face two main tensions:• They need to balance their interests with those of their competitors.They must place themselves on a continuum from cooperation tocompetition.• They need to balance accountability and flexibility. Companieswant to maintain some independent decision-making while holdingcollaborators accountable for delivering on their commitments. Theymust decide how to structure the collaboration on the continuum ofinformal to formal structure.How businesses view these tensions shapes the kind of competitorcollaborations they will seek.

The European creative visual industry is undergoing rapid technological development, demanding solid initiatives to maintain a competitive position in the marketplace. AVENUE, a pan-European network of Centres of Vocational Excellence, addresses this need through a collaboration of five independent significant ecosystems, each with a smart specialisation. AVENUE will conduct qualified industry-relevant research to assess, analyse, and conclude on the immediate need for professional training and educational development. The primary objective of AVENUE is to present opportunities for immediate professional and vocational training, while innovating teaching and learning methods in formal education, to empower students and professionals in content creation, entrepreneurship, and innovation, while supporting sustainability and healthy working environments. AVENUE will result in a systematised upgrade of workforce to address the demand for new skills arising from rapid technological development. Additionally, it will transform the formal education within the five participating VETs, making them able to transition from traditional artistic education to delivering skills, mindsets and technological competencies demanded by a commercial market. AVENUE facilitates mobility, networking and introduces a wide range of training formats that enable effective training within and across the five ecosystems. A significant portion of the online training is Open Access, allowing professionals from across Europe to upgrade their skills in various processes and disciplines. The result of AVENUE will be a deep-rooted partnership between five strong ecosystems, collaborating to elevate the European industry. More than 2000 professionals, employees, students, and young talents will benefit from relevant and immediate upgrading of competencies and skills, ensuring that the five European ecosystems remain at the forefront of innovation and competitiveness in the creative visual industry.

Resultaten onderzoek Kennis die zowel online als offline te raadplegen is, in een boek, in wetenschappelijke artikelen en op een website. Deze kennis bevat: Inzicht in kansen om impact van e-health innovatie in ‘create health’-samenwerking te vergroten; Projectnarratieven met ‘best practices’ voor interdisciplinaire samenwerking waarbij onderzoekers, creatieve industrie en zorgprofessionals betrokken zijn; Guidelines voor ontwikkelaars van e-health applicaties m.b.t. samenwerking met de creatieve industrie; Guidelines voor beleidsmakers m.b.t. het stimuleren van samenwerking tussen zorg en creatieve industrie en het gebruik van creatieve manieren van werken om onderzoek naar de praktijk te krijgen; Aanpak Vanuit een service-dominant logic perspectief wordt bekeken hoe toegepaste kennis en skills worden gedeeld tussen actoren die betrokken zijn bij de verschillende ‘create health’-projecten, wat de meerwaarde daarvan is en wat actoren van die uitwisseling – als proces – leren. De focus ligt op co-creatie van waarde, die door samenwerking en uitwisseling tot stand komt. Door middel van procesonderzoek wordt er toegewerkt naar bijdragen aan theorieontwikkeling op het gebied van boundary crossing en contribution mapping.
