Purpose: Board members and real estate managers (decision makers) play an important role in the decision-making process in nursing home organisations. This study aims to provide an understanding of underlying attributes and benefits sought by decision makers when making nursing home real estate decisions. Design/methodology/approach: Decision makers from seven different nursing home organisations in The Netherlands were interviewed using the laddering technique to determine the individual requirements, the considerations of the decision alternatives, the relevant attributes and benefits and their mutual relationships. Findings: This study details the motivations behind real estate management decisions in nursing home organisations. The findings show that apart from financial considerations, decision makers strive to enhance the quality of life and satisfaction of users with their real estate decisions and seek to include residents and employees in the process. These benefits are connected to the goals of well-being and innovation in health care. Furthermore, functionality, physical and functional flexibility and technology are key considerations when undertaking corporate real estate (CRE) decisions, to ensure that real estate management aligns with the strategic goals of the nursing home organisation. Practical implications: The insights of this study can support decision makers in healthcare facilities to create strategic value with their real estate. Understanding how to obtain certain benefits from nursing home real estate may result in a better realisation of organisational objectives and user needs. Originality/value: This study reveals the decision-making process in a nursing home context. Moreover, the laddering technique is used as a new method to explore and gain a deep understanding of CRE decision-making processes.

Ethical Dilemmas in the Creative, Cultural and Service Industries enhances professional ethical awareness and supports students'development of skills for ethical decision-making in these growing sectors. It focusses on the shaping of personal and professional values, and dealing with the moral and ethical issues that (future) professionals may encounter in practice. Including a multitude of varied and interdisciplinary case studies, this textbook adopts an applied ethical approach which enables the student to combine basic ethical theory with relevant and ‘real-life'cases. Major ethical issues such as CSR, ethical leadership, human rights, fraud, employee rights and duties, new technology and (social) entrepreneurship are addressed. This will be invaluable reading for students studying tourism, hospitality, leisure, events, marketing, healthcare, logistics, retail and game development. It will also be a suitable resource for in-company training of practitioners already working in this wide range of domains

This paper presents a Decision Support System (DSS) that helps companies with corporate reputation (CR) estimates of their respective brands by collecting provided feedbacks on their products and services and deriving state-of-the-art key performance indicators. A Sentiment Analysis Engine (SAE) is at the core of the proposed DSS that enables to monitor, estimate, and classify clients’ sentiments in terms of polarity, as expressed in public comments on social media (SM) company channels. The SAE is built on machine learning (ML) text classification models that are cross-source trained and validated with real data streams from a platform like Trustpilot that specializes in user reviews and tested on unseen comments gathered from a collection of public company pages and channels on a social networking platform like Facebook. Such crosssource opinion analysis remains a challenge and is highly relevant in the disciplines of research and engineering in which a sentiment classifier for an unlabeled destination domain is assisted by a tagged source task (Singh and Jaiswal, 2022). The best performance in terms of F1 score was obtained with a multinomial naive Bayes model: 0,87 for validation and 0,74 for testing.

The paper summarizes two models for engineering education, as discussed in earlier papers. The first model (Corporate Curriculum) aims to bring Industry into the school, while the second model (I3) intends to bring the school into Industry. The contribution of the presented models to the Bologna Declaration and to the Renaissance Engineer idea are discussed.

Educational policies in the Netherlands reveal that the current mainstream participatory approach to citizenship education jeopardises students’ autonomy. Especially in Dutch post-secondary vocational education, citizenship education has been shown to be mainly aimed at socialization: initiating students into tradition, internalising rules, societal norms and values. This article reports on the findings of a research project, which is grounded in the assumption that integrating Bildung, citizenship education and critical thinking is a promising way to grapple with the perceived overemphasis on socialization strategies. We justify the interrelationship of critical thinking, Bildung, citizenship education, and professional training from two perspectives – historical and contemporary. It is only by combining these concepts, we contend, that educational professionals can create teaching materials more geared to developing autonomy, and prepare students in vocational training to navigate the political and societal dilemma’s on the work floor. Furthermore, we also clarify our perspective by offering three educational principles, used in our project to guide the design of teaching materials, that form a context for integrating citizenship, critical thinking, and Bildung in vocational education. A practical illustration is subsequently discussed.

Sustainability is without doubt one of the most important challenges of our time. How can we develop prosperity, without compromising the life of future generations? Companies are integrating concepts of sustainability in their marketing, corporate communications, annual reports and in their actions. Information systems (IS) provide organizations with the ability to change and improve business processes to better support sustainable practices. Therefore, IS can make a contribution to the sustainable development of organizations. However, the organizational change aspects of „Green IS‟ are covered only marginally in literature. This paper aims to contribute the debate on Green IS, by highlighting the role of sustainability in the organizational process of implementing IS and organizational change resulting from IS. Based on a literature review of the concepts of sustainability, and the role of IS in sustainability, we will apply the concepts of sustainability to IS projects and create a checklist for developing sustainability indicators in IS projects.
