A novel synthetic approach to 2,6-bis(acrylamido)pyridine (BAAPy) has been developed, producing a dual-function monomer able to self-crosslink while providing functional binding sites through its amide and pyridine groups. The monomer's structure and purity were confirmed through NMR, FTIR, and HPLC analyses. Poly(BAAPy) was subsequently synthesized and employed in the purification of stilbenes, including t-resveratrol, t-ε-viniferin, and t-piceatannol, all extracted from grape canes. These stilbenes, widely recognized for their antioxidant, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties, are valuable phytochemicals. Grape canes, a by-product of grapevine pruning, serve as a natural and cost-effective source of these bioactive compounds. Using a single-step adsorption–desorption process with an ethanol–water solvent system, the method achieved a 13-fold enrichment of stilbenes with gravimetric purities over 37%. The dual functionality of BAAPy eliminates the need for external crosslinkers and enhances adsorption capacity.

This open science checklist is for researchers, trainees and students to assist them in implementing open science in their research activities. The checklist is inspired by open science principles, the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, the REWARD movement and the replicability crisis. It consists of 14 items divided over individual phases of the research process, except items four and five that are more generally applicable. Per item we refer to the corresponding chapter in our Open Science Research Manual and to the corresponding REWARD pillar or article(s) in the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. Some items focus more on quality aspects because sharing materials is most valuable if it is of high quality. Items concerning privacy and research ethics provide the boundary conditions for open science.

Background: Nutritional care for older adults provided by hospital and home care nurses and nursing assistants is suboptimal. This is due to several factors including professionals' lack of knowledge and low prioritisation. Affecting these factors may promote nurses' and nursing assistants' behavioral change and eventually improve nutritional care. To increase the likelihood of successfully targeting these factors, an evidence-based educational intervention is needed. Results: The intervention consisted of 30 statements about nursing nutritional care for older adults, which nurses and nursing assistants were asked to confirm or reject, followed by corresponding explanations. These can be presented in a snack-sized way, this means one statement per day, five times a week over a period of six weeks through an online platform. Conclusions: Based on a well-founded and comprehensive procedure, the microlearning intervention was developed. This intervention has the potential to contribute to nursing nutritional care for older adults.

The aviation industry is expected to grow at a pace of 4 % per annum in the coming years, therefore it is necessary to have techniques that support the management of the resources at hand in the best possible way so that facility expansion is delayed as much as possible with the corresponding capital savings.

Sustainable urban mobility is an established target of policy making and planning in Europe. It is associated with, among others, better air quality, less noise disturbance, increased safety and quality of public space. In this regard, one of the EU Commission’s main tools to achieve sustainable urban mobility, through Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP), require the explicit integration of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). Yet, European cities face common barriers when it comes to materialising M&E in practice. To avoid or overcome these barriers, this paper argues for integrating Capacity Building (CB). We draw this conclusion based on experiences made during the M&E and CB of the Horizon 2020 Project ‘Metamorphosis’. We report our experiences, rating different monitoring indicators used for the evaluation of measures transforming car-oriented neighbourhoods into children-friendly neighbourhoods in seven European cities. We then give advice on how to design and integrate CB for a feasible M&E scheme.

The reaction of the alkyl complexes Cp*2LnCH(SiMe 3)2 (Ln = Y 1-Y, Ce 1-Ce, La 1-La; Cp* = η5-C5Me5) and Me2Si(η 5-C5Me4)2LnCH(SiMe3) 2 (Ln = Ce 5-Ce) with 1-methylalk-2-ynes CH3C≡CR (R = Me 3a, Et 3b, nPr 3c, tBu 3d, SiMe3 3e, Ph 3f, C6H4Me-2 3g, C6H3Me 2-2,6 3h, C6H3iPr2-2,6 3i, C6F5 3j) affords the corresponding η3-propargyl/allenyl complexes Cp*2LnCH 2CCR (4a-j-Ln) and Me2Si(η5-C 5Me4)2CeCH2CCR (6a-j-Ce) via propargylic metalation. The hydride complexes [Cp*2Ln(μ-H)] 2 (Ln = Y 2-Y, Ce 2-Ce, La 2-La) react rapidly with 3 to produce mixtures of insertion and propargylic metalation products, and the relative rate of these processes depends on the metal and alkyne substituent. Selected η3-propargy/allenyl complexes Cp*2YCH 2CCR (R = Me 4a-Y, Ph 4f-Y), Cp*2CeCH2CCR (R = Me 4a-Ce, Ph 4f-Ce), Cp*2CeCH(Me)CCEt (9b-Ce), Cp*2LaCH2CCR (R = Ph 4f-La, C6H 3Me2-2,6 4h-La) are obtained on a preparative scale and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and cryoscopy. Compounds 4f-Y and 4f-La are also characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The reactions of the η3-propargyl/allenyl complexes with Brønsted acids, such as alcohols and acetylenes, afford the corresponding substituted allenes (RCH=C=CH2) and 1-methylalk-2-ynes (CH 3C≡CR) as organic products. The reactions of 4f-Y and 4f-La with Lewis bases, such as pyridine and THF, yield die corresponding base adducts. The adduct 4f-La · py is characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, revealing an η3-coordinated propargyl/allenyl ligand. © 2008 American Chemical Society.

In this study, the effect of strapping rowers to their sliding seat on performance during 75 m on-water starting trials was investigated. Well-trained rowers performed 75 m maximum-effort starts using an instrumented single scull equipped with a redesigned sliding seat system, both under normal conditions and while strapped to the sliding seat. Strapping rowers to their sliding seat resulted in a 0.45 s lead after 75 m, corresponding to an increase in average boat velocity of about 2.5%. Corresponding effect sizes were large. No significant changes were observed in general stroke cycle characteristics. No indications of additional boat heaving and pitching under strapped conditions were found. The increase in boat velocity is estimated to correspond to an increase in average mechanical power output during the start of on-water rowing between 5% and 10%, which is substantial but smaller than the 12% increase found in a previous study on ergometer starting. We conclude that, after a very short period of adaptation to the strapped condition, single-scull starting performance is substantially improved when the rower is strapped to the sliding seat.
