Using hybrid toys to deliver physical therapy is an innovative way to engage children in personalised healthcare. However, there is an urgency to understand children’s needs in their digital-physical play experience, to effectively design these toys. The aims of this explorative study were to identify the needs of children in their play experience and to examine co-creation workshops as a mean to do that. Ten children and thirteen observers participated. Participants were asked to reflect on what they like most about play, while building a hybrid toy and discussing the rationale behind their actions. The statements were written down by the observers and analysed via concept mapping and network analysis to categorise them. Finally, the children filled in a questionnaire after the session to assess the acceptance of the workshop. We have found that the identified needs can refer to different aspects from psychological to practical functionality, providing a wide panorama of requirements. The results of the questionnaire show that children enjoyed the topic, the use of technology, and the process of co-creation. The combination of co-creation with concept mapping allows us to collect and categorise the identified needs to further develop future designs.

This article explores cooperation between a commercial supermarket chain and an environmental non-governmental organization linking it to consumer perception of the “The Super Animals” collectable cards promotion initiative. The case study focuses on one particular joint project involving Animal Cards that was initiated by the supermarket Albert Heijn and the World Wide Fund for Nature in The Netherlands. Based on this case, environmental non-governmental organizations’ strategic choices in the context of contesting discourses of sustainability and consumption, as well as implications for environmental education, are addressed. This article combines three strands of the literature – on sustainable consumption, on strategic cooperation between commercial companies and environmental non-governmental organizations and on environmental education. It is argued that the Animal Cards initiative presents an ambiguous case by both attempting to enhance environmental awareness and promoting consumption, opening up questions about the value of such cooperative ventures to the objectives of environmental education. Recent developments in digital technology and consumer culture have created new opportunities for retail and brand event concepts which create value by offering more than solely marketing or transactions, but rather a place where passion is shared. This chapter will define the concept of ‘fashion space’ and consumer experience, and delves into strategies for creating experiences that both align with a brand’s ethos and identity and build brand communities. It will provide insight on creating strong shared brand experiences that integrate physical and digital spaces, AR and VR. These insights can be used for consumer spaces but also for media and buyer events, runway shows, test labs and showrooms. Since its launch in 2007, international fashion brand COS has focused on creating fashion spaces that build and reinforce a COS fashion community. COS retail stores with their extraordinary architecture, both traditional and contemporary, contribute stories and facilitate intense brand experiences. Moreover, COS’ dedication to share the artistic inspirations of its people led to collaborating on interactive and multi-sensory installations which allow consumers to affectively connect to the brand’s personality and values. Thus, the brand was able to establish itself firmly in the lifestyle of its customers, facilitating and developing their aesthetics and values.
