Challenging behaviour, such as aggression towards oneself, others, or objects, arises in interaction with the environment and may prevent individuals from participating in society and compromise their quality of life (QoL). Literature suggests that architects can contribute to prevention, by influencing challenging behaviour before rather than after its occurrence. By conducting a case study at a very-intensive-care facility, we explore how architecture can contribute to the QoL of intellectually impaired (and autistic) individuals showing challenging behaviour. The case study is based on interviews with residents and care providers, and direct observations of their daily life. Preliminary findings confirm the relevance of architecture in influencing challenging behaviour. They suggest that the residents are dependent on the (visual and auditory) connection with the care provider. Also, care providers confirm the importance of this connection for the quality of the care they provide. At the same time, residents may experience anxiety triggered by fellow residents and their challenging behaviour. Residents may also feel stress when faced with unexpected situations and this may lead to an onset of challenging behaviour. Sensory sensitivity, specifically to noise and heat is also relevant for their QoL.The findings will be further substantiated through multiple triangulation with available data (personal files, incident reports, photographs). Future research, specifically focused on intellectually impaired individuals showing challenging behaviour, is needed to better understand the similarities and differences between their needs and the needs of autistic people.

In response to a rapidly changing, increasingly insecure and complex labor market, career counselors and researchers are developing methods that can meet the needs of individuals who would navigate this new terrain. In the last two or three decades, narrative career counseling practices (Cochran, 1997; McMahon & Watson, 2012; Reid & West, 2011; Savickas, 2012) have been developed to promote career adaptability (Savickas, 2011) and career resilience (Lyons, Schweitzer & Ng, 2015). Narrative counseling (i.e. career construction) is founded on the idea that in order to survive and thrive on the labor market of the 21st century, individuals must reflexively construct their identities in a process of meaning making, where identity is co-constructed in the form of a narrative: a story about who one is that provides both meaning and direction (Wijers & Meijers, 1996). Stakeholders must purposely reflect on the suitability of process models for designing tourism experience systems. Specific characteristics of these models relate to developing tourism experience systems as integral parts of wider socio-technical systems. Choices made in crafting such models need to address three reflexivity mechanisms: problem, stakeholder and method definition. We systematically evaluate application of these mechanisms in a living lab experiment, by developing evaluation episodes using the framework for evaluation in design science research. We outline (i) the development of these evaluation episodes and (ii) how executing them influenced the process and outcomes of co-crafting the process model. We highlight both the benefits of and an approach to incorporate reflexivity in developing process models for designing tourism experience systems.

This unique interplay of speech recognition, AI, and projection technology breaks new ground in public engagement methods. The project offers valuable insights into public perceptions and aspirations for sustainability, as well as understanding the effectiveness of AI-powered visualisation and regenerative applications of AI. Ultimately, this will serve as a springboard for PhD research that will aim to understand How AI can serve as a vehicle for crafting regenerative futures? By employing real-time AI image generation, the project directly tests its effectiveness in fostering public engagement with sustainable futures. Analysing participant interaction and feedback sheds light on how AI-powered visualisation tools can enhance comprehension and engagement. Furthermore, the project fosters public understanding and appreciation of research. The interactive and accessible nature of "Speak the Future" demystifies the research process, showcasing its relevance and impact on everyday life. Moreover, by directly involving the public in co-creating visual representations of their aspirations, the project builds an emotional connection and sense of ownership, potentially leading to continued engagement and action beyond the festival setting. "Speak the Future" promises to be a groundbreaking initiative, bridging the gap between scientific innovation and public engagement in sustainability discourse. By harnessing the power of AI for collective visualisation, the project not only gathers valuable data for researchers but also empowers the public to envision and work towards a brighter, more sustainable future.
