Purpose (1) To investigate the differences in the course of participation up to one year after stroke between distinct movement behavior patterns identified directly after discharge to the home setting, and (2) to investigate the longitudinal association between the development of movement behavior patterns over time and participation after stroke. Materials and methods 200 individuals with a first-ever stroke were assessed directly after discharge to the home setting, at six months and at one year. The Participation domain of the Stroke Impact Scale 3.0 was used to measure participation. Movement behavior was objectified using accelerometry for 14 days. Participants were categorized into three distinct movement behavior patterns: sedentary exercisers, sedentary movers and sedentary prolongers. Generalized estimating equations (GEE) were performed. Results People who were classified as sedentary prolongers directly after discharge was associated with a worse course of participation up to one year after stroke. The development of sedentary prolongers over time was also associated with worse participation compared to sedentary exercisers. Conclusions The course of participation after stroke differs across distinct movement behavior patterns after discharge to the home setting. Highly sedentary and inactive people with stroke are at risk for restrictions in participation over time. Implications for rehabilitation The course of participation in people with a first-ever stroke up to one year after discharge to the home setting differed based on three distinct movement behavior patterns, i.e., sedentary exercisers, sedentary movers and sedentary prolongers. Early identification of highly sedentary and inactive people with stroke after discharge to the home setting is important, as sedentary prolongers are at risk for restrictions in participation over time. Supporting people with stroke to adapt and maintain a healthy movement behavior after discharge to the home setting could prevent potential long-term restrictions in participation.

Writing as soul work refers to the active engagement of students in transformative writing activities in a group setting with the aim to enable students to develop new, more empowering narratives. This article explains how soul work through writing can be used to foster career adaptability, expressed in the form of increased awareness and self-direction. We summarize the labour market realities that underlie a need for more narrative approaches and introduce writing as soul work as a potential method to respond to these contemporary career challenges. This study investigates whether creative, expressive, and reflective writing contributes to the formation of a narrative career identity that offers students in higher education a sense of meaning and direction. The contents of writing done by students who participated in 2 two-day writing courses before and after work placements and of a control group were compared. Employers were also asked to evaluate students' performance. Writing samples were analyzed using the Linguistic Index Word Count program and an instrument based on Dialogical Self Theory. Work-placement self-reports were gathered, examined, and used as anecdotal evidence presented in the form of case studies. The results show that career writing can promote the development of career identity and holds promise as a narrative career guidance approach.
The reclaiming of street spaces for pedestrians during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as on Witte de Withstraat in Rotterdam, appears to have multiple benefits: It allows people to escape the potentially infected indoor air, limits accessibility for cars and reduces emissions. Before ordering their coffee or food, people may want to check one of the many wind and weather apps, such as windy.com: These apps display the air quality at any given time, including, for example, the amount of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a gas responsible for an increasing number of health issues, particularly respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Ships and heavy industry in the nearby Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest seaport, exacerbate air pollution in the region. Not surprisingly, in 2020 Rotterdam was ranked as one of the unhealthiest cities in the Netherlands, according to research on the health of cities conducted by Arcadis. Reducing air pollution is a key target for the Port Authority and the City of Rotterdam. Missing, however, is widespread awareness among citizens about how air pollution links to socio-spatial development, and thus to the future of the port city cluster of Rotterdam. To encourage awareness and counter the problem of "out of sight - out of mind," filmmaker Entrop&DeZwartFIlms together with ONSTV/NostalgieNet, and Rotterdam Veldakademie, are collaborating with historians of the built environment and computer science and public health from TU Delft and Erasmus University working on a spatial data platform to visualize air pollution dynamics and socio-economic datasets in the Rotterdam region. Following discussion of findings with key stakeholders, we will make a pilot TV-documentary. The documentary, discussed first with Rotterdam citizens, will set the stage for more documentaries on European and international cities, focusing on the health effects—positive and negative—of living and working near ports in the past, present, and future.
