Veel instellingen zijn bezig met research support: zij willen hun onderzoekers ondersteunen bij de toegang tot hoogwaardige ICT-infrastructuur voor het verwerken, analyseren, visualiseren, beheren en opslaan van onderzoeksdata. Elke instelling doet dat op haar eigen manier. SURF brengt in een serie in beeld hoe instellingen research support hebben georganiseerd en wat hun agenda is voor de toekomst. In deze tweede aflevering is de Hanzehogeschool Groningen aan het woord.

Deze publicatie richt zich vooral op het concept Design Based Research,gezien vanuit het perspectief van de bijna 40 lectoren die de hogeschool rijk is. Dit lectoratenoverzicht kan worden beschouwd als een atlas of reisgids waarmee de lezer een route kan afleggen langs de verschillende lectoraten. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van de Service Economy worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 2. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van Vitale Regio worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 3. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van Smart Sustainable Industries worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 4. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van de hogeschoolbrede thema’s Design Based Education en Research worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 5. Tenslotte wordt er in hoofdstuk 6 een eerste aanzet gedaan om één of meer verbindende thema’s of werkwijzen te ontdekken in de aanpak van de verschillende lectoraten. Het is niet de bedoeling van deze publicatie om een definitief antwoord te geven op de vraag wat NHL Stenden precies bedoelt met het concept Design Based Research. Het doel van deze publicatie is wel om een indruk te krijgen van wat er allemaal gebeurt binnnen de lectoraten van NHL Stenden, en om nieuwsgierig te worden naar meer.

Over the last two decades, institutions for higher education such as universities and colleges have rapidly expanded and as a result have experienced profound changes in processes of research and organization. However, the rapid expansion and change has fuelled concerns about issues such as educators' technology professional development. Despite the educational value of emerging technologies in schools, the introduction has not yet enjoyed much success. Effective use of information and communication technologies requires a substantial change in pedagogical practice. Traditional training and learning approaches cannot cope with the rising demand on educators to make use of innovative technologies in their teaching. As a result, educational institutions as well as the public are more and more aware of the need for adequate technology professional development. The focus of this paper is to look at action research as a qualitative research methodology for studying technology professional development in HE in order to improve teaching and learning with ICTs at the tertiary level. The data discussed in this paper have been drawn from a cross institutional setting at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands. The data were collected and analysed according to a qualitative approach.

This booklet contains fascinating and representative examplesof projects – completed or ongoing, from home and abroad – that are linked tothe SDGs. Vanuit Fontys Hogescholen wordt veel onderzoek gedaan, met name door onderzoekers van de verschillende lectoraten. Vanzelfsprekend worden er binnen deze onderzoeken veel data verzameld en verwerkt. Fontys onderschrijft het belang van zorgvuldige omgang met onderzoeksdata en vraagt daarom van onderzoekers dat zij hun Research Data Management (RDM) op orde hebben. Denk hierbij aan veilige opslag en duurzame toegankelijkheid van data. Maar ook (open access) publiceren en archiveren van onderzoeksdata maken onderdeel uit van RDM. Hoe je hier als onderzoeker invulling aan geeft kan soms best een zoektocht zijn, mede doordat nog niet iedereen even bekend is met het onderwerp RDM. Met dit boek hopen we onderzoekers binnen Fontys de belangrijkste informatie te bieden die nodig is om goed invulling te geven aan Research Data Management en daarbij ook te wijzen op de ondersteuning die op dit gebied voorhanden is.

Investigated if the SSQT allows for meaningful comparisons between patients with rheumatoid arthritis from different countries and explored the dimensionality and invariance of the SSQT dimensions. Based on types of social support, the authors formulated a series of items to measure actual supportive interactions or exchanges of resources over 5 scales: (daily emotional support, problem-oriented emotional support, and social companionship; and daily instrumental support and problem-oriented instrumental support). 739 Ss (mean age 52.4 yrs) from France, Norway, the Netherlands, and Sweden completed the SSQT; mean disease duration was 2.3 yrs. Analyses yielded the intended scales, although the internal consistency of the daily instrumental support scale is questionable. This chapter provides insights into the complex and adaptive nature of systems and illustrates key characteristics of such systems. These contribute to an understanding of the challenges in health promotion and imply a need for more context-specific research to evaluate the health promotion interventions. CARA can address this need as it can be used to evaluate and support change in complex adaptive systems. To support and inspire other health promotion researchers who want to adopt CARA as their research approach, we have discussed our experiences and provided some guiding principles. Overall, complexity thinking can help to understand the challenges in health promotion, whereby CARA provides a possible strategy for health promotion researchers when dealing with the challenges of evaluating health promotion interventions in complex adaptive systems.

Chapter 2 centres on the professorships that are active in the field of Service Economy. Chapter 3 is dedicated to the professorships that are focussed on the field of Vital Region. Chapter 4 describes the professorships operating in the field of Smart Sustainable Industries. Chapter 5 deals with the professorships that are active in the field of the institution-wide themes of Design Based Education and Design Based Research. Lastly, in Chapter 6 we make an attempt to discover one or more connecting themes or procedures in the approach of the various professorships. This publication is not intended to give a definitive answer to the question as to what exactly NHL Stenden means by the concept of Design Based Research. The aim of this publication is to get an idea of everything that is happening in the NHL Stenden professorships and to pique one’s curiosity to find out more.

Expectations are high for digital technologies to address sustainability related challenges. While research into such applications and the twin transformation is growing rapidly, insights in the actual daily practices of digital sustainability within organizations is lacking. This is problematic as the contributions of digital tools to sustainability goals gain shape in organizational practices. To bridge this gap, we develop a theoretical perspective on digital sustainability practices based on practice theory, with an emphasis on the concept of sociomateriality. We argue that connecting meanings related to sustainability with digital technologies is essential to establish beneficial practices. Next, we contend that the meaning of sustainability is contextspecific, which calls for a local meaning making process. Based on our theoretical exploration we develop an empirical research agenda.
