This article explores cooperation between a commercial supermarket chain and an environmental non-governmental organization linking it to consumer perception of the “The Super Animals” collectable cards promotion initiative. The case study focuses on one particular joint project involving Animal Cards that was initiated by the supermarket Albert Heijn and the World Wide Fund for Nature in The Netherlands. Based on this case, environmental non-governmental organizations’ strategic choices in the context of contesting discourses of sustainability and consumption, as well as implications for environmental education, are addressed. This article combines three strands of the literature – on sustainable consumption, on strategic cooperation between commercial companies and environmental non-governmental organizations and on environmental education. It is argued that the Animal Cards initiative presents an ambiguous case by both attempting to enhance environmental awareness and promoting consumption, opening up questions about the value of such cooperative ventures to the objectives of environmental education. De kaarten met principes kunnen worden gebruikt om dialoog te voeren en richting te geven over ontwerp, uitvoering en evaluatie van leergemeenschappen, zowel in training van begeleiders van Learning Communities als gebruik met leergemeenschappen zelf.

Organizations feel an urgency to develop and implement applications based on foundation models: AI-models that have been trained on large-scale general data and can be finetuned to domain-specific tasks. In this process organizations face many questions, regarding model training and deployment, but also concerning added business value, implementation risks and governance. They express a need for guidance to answer these questions in a suitable and responsible way. We intend to offer such guidance by the question matrix presented in this paper. The question matrix is adjusted from the model card, to match well with development of AIapplications rather than AI-models. First pilots with the question matrix revealed that it elicited discussions among developers and helped developers explicate their choices and intentions during development.

The paper introduced an automatic score detection model using object detection techniques. The performance of sevenmodels belonging to two different architectural setups was compared. Models like YOLOv8n, YOLOv8s, YOLOv8m, RetinaNet-50, and RetinaNet-101 are single-shot detectors, while Faster RCNN-50 and Faster RCNN-101 belong to the two-shot detectors category. The dataset was manually captured from the shooting range and expanded by generating more versatile data using Python code. Before the dataset was trained to develop models, it was resized (640x640) and augmented using Roboflow API. The trained models were then assessed on the test dataset, and their performance was compared using matrices like mAP50, mAP50-90, precision, and recall. The results showed that YOLOv8 models can detect multiple objects with good confidence scores.

The Middle East and North Africa region has been absent form stocktaking exercises on social accountability initiatives (SAI), an umbrella term to designate citizen-led tools aimed at socio-political change. We argue that this sidelining is unwarranted, given the proliferation of participatory governance initiatives, civic associations and popular mobilisation in Arab societies after 2011. Whereas the struggle for improved accountability in the Arab world remains under-researched, analysis of authoritarian regime tactics has proliferated. The fact is, however, that many Arab societies have experimented with mechanisms to apply political pressure on corrupt elites while international donors have launched diverse SAIs, including community score cards and participatory and gender-responsive budgeting initiatives. In this chapter, we first identify this double gap: not only has the literature on SAIs overlooked the MENA region but scholarship on the Middle East has largely failed to recognise initiatives launched across the region over the past decade as SAIs. Then, we aim to address the blind spot of Arab SAI’s as pathways towards improved governance. Finally, we present an overview of extant literature and introduce a set of four research questions to better understand what social accountability means for people on the ground. These questions focus on the various meanings of social accountability (musā’ala vs muhāsaba), its modes of mobilisation, the responses from authorities to such initiatives and their overall outcomes.

De laatste decennia is tijd een strategische concurrentiefactor geworden in de maakindustrie (Demeter, 2013; Godinho Filho et al., 2017a; Gromova, 2020). Naast tijdige levering verwacht de klant ook keuze, maatwerk, hoge kwaliteit en een lage prijs (Siong et al., 2018; Suri, 2020). Om de door de klant gewenste korte doorlooptijd te kunnen realiseren en daarbij ook te voldoen aan zijn andere eisen, zijn flexibiliteit en aanpassingsvermogen essentieel geworden (Godinho Filho et al., 2017b; Siong et al., 2018). Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) heeft als doel de doorlooptijd te verkorten in productieomgevingen die gekenmerkt worden door een hoge variëteit in producten en maatwerk (Suri, 2020; Siong et al., 2018). QRM kent zijn oorsprong begin jaren negentig van de vorige eeuw (Suri, 2020) en vertoont sterke gelijkenis met lean manufacturing. Het verschil met lean manufacturing is echter dat QRM zich richt op bedrijven in een omgeving met veel productvariatie. Daarnaast heeft QRM nieuwe elementen toegevoegd, zoals Paired-cell Overlapping Loops of Cards with Authorization (POLCA) en Manufacturing Critical Path Time’ (MCT)’ (Godinho Filho et al., 2017b).

In a rapidly developing labor market, in which some parts of jobs disappear and new parts appear due to technological developments, companies are struggling with defining future-proof job qualifications and describing job profiles that fit the organization’s needs. This is even more applicable to smaller companies with new types of work because they often grow rapidly and cannot hire graduates from existing study programs. In this research project, we undertook in-depth, qualitative research into the five roles of a new profession: social media architect. It has become clear which 21st century skills and motivations are important per role and, above all, how they differ in subcategory and are interpreted by a full-service team in their working methods, in a labor market context, and in the talents of the professional themselves. In a workshop, these “skills” were supplemented through a design-based approach and visualized per team role in flexibly applicable recruitment cards. This research project serves as an example of how to co-create innovative job profiles for the changing labor market. Introduction: There is a lack of effective interventions available for Pediatric Physical Therapists (PPTs) to promote a physically active lifestyle in children with physical disabilities. Participatory design methods (co-design) may be helpful in generating insights and developing intervention prototypes for facilitating a physically active lifestyle in children with physical disabilities (6–12 years). Materials and methods: A multidisciplinary development team of designers, developers, and researchers engaged in a co-design process–together with parents, PPTs, and other relevant stakeholders (such as the Dutch Association of PPTs and care sports connectors). In this design process, the team developed prototypes for interventions during three co-creation sessions, four one-week design sprint, living-lab testing and two triangulation sessions. All available co-design data was structured and analyzed by three researchers independently resulting in themes for facilitating physical activity. Results: The data rendered two specific outcomes, (1) knowledge cards containing the insights collected during the co-design process, and (2) eleven intervention prototypes. Based on the generated insights, the following factors seem important when facilitating a physically active lifestyle: a) stimulating self-efficacy; b) stimulating autonomy; c) focusing on possibilities; d) focusing on the needs of the individual child; e) collaborating with stakeholders; f) connecting with a child's environment; and g) meaningful goal setting. Conclusion: This study shows how a co-design process can be successfully applied to generate insights and develop interventions in pediatric rehabilitation. The designed prototypes facilitate the incorporation of behavioral change techniques into pediatric rehabilitation and offer new opportunities to facilitate a physically active lifestyle in children with physical disabilities by PPTs. While promising, further studies should examine the feasibility and effectivity of these prototypes.
