The main question in this PhD thesis is: How can Business Rules Management be configured and valued in organizations? A BRM problem space framework is proposed, existing of service systems, as a solution to the BRM problems. In total 94 vendor documents and approximately 32 hours of semi-structured interviews were analyzed. This analysis revealed nine individual service systems, in casu elicitation, design, verification, validation, deployment, execution, monitor, audit, and version. In the second part of this dissertation, BRM is positioned in relation to BPM (Business Process Management) by means of a literature study. An extension study was conducted: a qualitative study on a list of business rules formulated by a consulting organization based on the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission risk framework. Dit boek geeft een uitgebreide beschrijving en interpretatie van de kredietcrisis zoals die in het najaar van 2008 plaats vond. De inhoud betreft een zeer ingewikkelde en veelzijdige materie die op een duidelijke wijze is weergegeven, waarbij theorie en de praktijk bij elkaar komen. Het bevat enerzijds veel informatie over de kredietcrisis en anderzijds een veelzijdigheid aan onderwerpen zoals: waarderingsgrondslagen, financieringsstructuren, informatie, marketing (vooral promotie, sponsoring, merkenstrategie), integriteit, moral hazard, wilsgebreken, aansprakelijkheid, politiek, risico's, risicomanagement en beloningsstructuren. Het onderwerp beslaat de basis van onze economie, namelijk het vertrouwen in onze samenleving en daarmee transparantie en integriteit. De veelzijdigheid van het onderwerp, de theoretische onderbouwingen, de vele praktijkcomponenten en de vele relevante afbeeldingen, maken van dit manifest een boek over de economie in praktijk. Doelgroepen voor dit zijn: de gedupeerden, de politici en beslissers in financiële instellingen, studenten en middelbare scholieren en alle overige geïnteresseerden. Om het boek voor een breed publiek toegankelijk te houden, is de materie op een eenvoudige wijze beschreven waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van veel afbeeldingen en eenvoudig taalgebruik.
The Technical Departments at the Fontys University of Professional Education in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, offer a course which is devel-oped around the principles of Concurrent Engi-neering. Integrated Product Development (IPD) project teams are multi-disciplinary groups which develop products in co-operation with the regional industry. The companies involved are sponsoring the developments and the revenue is being used for more intensive group coaching by tutors and specialists. We experimented with communication technology to find a good compromise between time and costs. It turned out that intelligent pagers resulted in minor improvements, mobile phones are still too expensive, e-mail is functional but creates no group cohesion and most of the com-panies are rather conservative in their use of new communication tools. We also found out that the use of a Computer Supported Co-operative Work (CSCW) server is a possibility for information interchange as an alternative for e-mail attachments. The server is also used as an archive. In future we expect that CSCW will be an effective tool for project sup-port and control.
