The municipality of Amsterdam wants to have an emission free taxi sector by 2025. In order to reach that goal, the city has taken a number of measures which favour clean taxis above conventional taxis. One of these measures is an innovative priority privilege scheme at the Amsterdam Central Station taxi stand, which should lead to shorter waiting times and more trips for clean taxis. The municipality wants to know if the measure is effective. In this study, we present an analysis of visiting behaviour of clean and regular (diesel) taxis in order to assess the effectiveness of the privilege scheme to attract more clean taxis. As such it aims to contribute to a better understanding of the effect of the priority measure at the Amsterdam Central Station and to provide input for policy makers to introduce incentive schemes to stimulate clean taxis in cities. Analysed data covers a timespan from one year, starting October 2015 when the privilege scheme started with a call rate of 1 clean taxi to each 4 taxis called for a ride. The analysis shows the number of arriving clean taxis to shift from 1:6 to 1:4 during the observation period. Based on this analysis the municipality decided to modify the preference ratio beginning 2017. This study contributes to a better understanding of the effect of the privilege measures and provides input for policy makers introducing incentives to stimulate clean taxis in cities.
As society has to adapt to changing energy sources and consumption, it is driving away from fossil energy. One particular area of interest is electrical driving and the increasing demand for (public) charging facilities. For municipalities, it is essential to adapt to this changing demand and provide more public charging facilities.In order to accommodate on roll-out strategies in metropolitan areas a data driven simulation model, SEVA1, has been developed The SEVA base model used in this paper is an Agent-Based model that incorporate past sessions to predict future charging behaviour. Most EV users are habitual users and tend to use a small subset of the available charge facilities, by that obtaining a pattern is within the range possibilities. Yet, for non-habitual users, for example, car sharing users, obtaining a pattern is much harder as the cars use a significantly higher amount of charge points.The focus of this research is to explore different model implementations to assess the potential of predicting free-floating cars from the non-habitual user population. Most important result is that we now can simulate effects of deployement of car sharing users in the system, and with that the effect on convenience for habitual users. Results show that the interaction between habitual and non habitual EV users affect the unsuccessful connection attempts based increased based on the size of the car-sharing fleet up to approximately 10 percent. From these results implications for policy makers could be drawn.

PurposeThe majority of older patients, scheduled for a cardiac procedure, do not adhere to international dietary intake and physical activity guidelines. The purpose of this study was to explore barriers and facilitators regarding dietary intake and physical activity behaviour change in older patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).MethodsWe conducted a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews with patients undergoing TAVI. Interviews were analysed by two independent researchers using thematic analysis, the capability, opportunity and motivation behaviour model was used as a framework.ResultsThe study included 13 patients (82 ± 6 years old, 6 females) until data saturation was reached. Six themes were identified, which were all applicable to both dietary intake and physical activity. Three following themes were identified as barriers: (1) low physical capability, (2) healthy dietary intake and physical activity are not a priority at an older age and (3) ingrained habits and preferences. Three following themes were identified as facilitators: (1) knowledge that dietary intake and physical activity are important for maintaining health, (2) norms set by family, friends and caregivers and (3) support from the social environment.ConclusionOur study found that older patients had mixed feelings about changing their behaviour. The majority initially stated that dietary intake and physical activity were not a priority at older age. However, with knowledge that behaviour could improve health, patients also stated willingness to change, leading to a state of ambivalence. Healthcare professionals may consider motivational interviewing techniques to address this ambivalence.
