Several interventions have been developed to support families living with parental mental illness (PMI). Recent evidence suggests that programmes with whole-family components may have greater positive effects for families, thereby also reducing costs to health and social care systems. This review aimed to identify whole-family interventions, their common characteristics, effectiveness and acceptability. A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A literature search was conducted in ASSIA, CINAHL, Embase, Medline, and PsycINFO in January 2021 and updated in August 2022. We double screened 3914 abstracts and 212 papers according to pre-set inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool was used for quality assessment. Quantitative and qualitative data were extracted and synthesised. Randomised-control trial data on child and parent mental health outcomes were analysed separately in random-effects meta-analyses. The protocol, extracted data, and meta-data are accessible via the Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/9uxgp/). Data from 66 reports—based on 41 independent studies and referring to 30 different interventions—were included. Findings indicated small intervention effects for all outcomes including children’s and parents’ mental health (dc = −0.017, −027; dp = −0.14, −0.16) and family outcomes. Qualitative evidence suggested that most families experienced whole-family interventions as positive, highlighting specific components as helpful, including whole-family components, speaking about mental illness, and the benefits of group settings. Our findings highlight the lack of high-quality studies. The present review fills an important gap in the literature by summarising the evidence for whole-family interventions. There is a lack of robust evidence coupled with a great need in families affected by PMI which could be addressed by whole-family interventions. We recommend the involvement of families in the further development of these interventions and their evaluation.

The Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sector is responsible for a large part of the total worldwide energy consumption, a significant part of which is caused by incorrect operation of controls and maintenance. HVAC systems are becoming increasingly complex, especially due to multi-commodity energy sources, and as a result, the chance of failures in systems and controls will increase. Therefore, systems that diagnose energy performance are of paramount importance. However, despite much research on Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) methods for HVAC systems, they are rarely applied. One major reason is that proposed methods are different from the approaches taken by HVAC designers who employ process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). This led to the following main research question: Which FDD architecture is suitable for HVAC systems in general to support the set up and implementation of FDD methods, including energy performance diagnosis? First, an energy performance FDD architecture based on information embedded in P&IDs was elaborated. The new FDD method, called the 4S3F method, combines systems theory with data analysis. In the 4S3F method, the detection and diagnosis phases are separated. The symptoms and faults are classified into 4 types of symptoms (deviations from balance equations, operating states (OS) and energy performance (EP), and additional information) and 3 types of faults (component, control and model faults). Second, the 4S3F method has been tested in four case studies. In the first case study, the symptom detection part was tested using historical Building Management System (BMS) data for a whole year: the combined heat and power plant of the THUAS (The Hague University of Applied Sciences) building in Delft, including an aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system, a heat pump, a gas boiler and hot and cold water hydronic systems. This case study showed that balance, EP and OS symptoms can be extracted from the P&ID and the presence of symptoms detected. In the second case study, a proof of principle of the fault diagnosis part of the 4S3F method was successfully performed on the same HVAC system extracting possible component and control faults from the P&ID. A Bayesian Network diagnostic, which mimics the way of diagnosis by HVAC engineers, was applied to identify the probability of all possible faults by interpreting the symptoms. The diagnostic Bayesian network (DBN) was set up in accordance with the P&ID, i.e., with the same structure. Energy savings from fault corrections were estimated to be up to 25% of the primary energy consumption, while the HVAC system was initially considered to have an excellent performance. In the third case study, a demand-driven ventilation system (DCV) was analysed. The analysis showed that the 4S3F method works also to identify faults on an air ventilation system.

Voldoende bewegen, genoeg slapen en de hoeveelheid zitten en beeldschermgedrag beperken is een vereiste voor een gezonde groei en ontwikkeling van jonge kinderen. Daarnaast wordt in de jongste levensfase de basis gelegd een leven lang bewegen door de ontwikkeling van motorische vaardigheden en het aanleren van actieve beweegroutines. De afgelopen jaren zijn de beweegpatronen van (jonge) kinderen steeds ongezonder geworden en de WHO heeft de toenemende fysieke inactiviteit wereldwijd bestempeld als een urgent probleem. Het doel van dit project is het ontwikkelen van een tool (checklist) om via een ‘whole systems approach’ een gezond 24-uurs beweeggedrag te stimuleren voor kinderen van 0 tot 6 jaar. Deze tool, bedoeld voor meerdere stakeholders zoals gemeenten, kinderopvang- en schooldirecteuren of leerkrachten en pedagogisch professionals, kan de basis vormen voor bewustwording, het ondernemen van actie, toetsing en mogelijk wet- en regelgeving. Items op de checklist zullen onder andere gericht zijn op beleid, scholing van leerkrachten en pedagogisch professionals, interactievaardigheden en de fysieke omgeving. De voorgestelde samenwerking tussen kennispartners in Nederland, Noorwegen en België in combinatie met de adviesraad zorgt voor een unieke basis om de ontwikkeling, implementatie, duurzame inzet en borging van deze tool succesvol te laten verlopen. Het project sluit daarbij ook naadloos aan bij de opgestelde landelijke kennisagenda rondom ‘van jongs af aan vaardig in beweging’ en is in lijn met de Europese onderzoek en innovatieagenda van Horizon Europe 2025-2027. De krachtige internationale netwerkvorming voorziet in een duurzaam karakter door een inhoudelijke expertise matching waarin partners van elkaar kunnen leren en hierdoor een sterke wisselwerking kan plaatsvinden, waarmee een krachtige (inter)nationale positie op het gebied van gezond, actief opgroeien van jonge kinderen kan worden ingenomen. Daarnaast heeft de (kennis)netwerkvorming een positieve weerslag op de regionale ‘twee-snelheden-uitdaging’ waarmee de Brainportregio kampt door een sterke internationale instroom van kenniswerkers.
