This commentary reflects on the article written by the [authors] through discussing two points. First it will shed some light on the relationship between Utopia and Dystopia and taking the discussion in a slightly different direction that could strengthen their proposition in their article and second will clarify the aspect of emotion in the dark tourism experience.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the future of tourism is a much-debated topic both in academic and non-academic circles with commentators expounding contrasting perspectives. This conceptual paper contributes to such debates and aims at envisioning plausible futures of cultural tourism, in particular. For that purpose, we first discuss cultural tourism trends and the future scenarios available in the literature. Then, we articulate three cultural tourism visions of the decades to come: a utopian, a dystopian and a heterotopian vision. Finally, we conclude that the heterotopian vision provides the most nuanced interpretation of the future of cultural tourism and we discuss the potential ramifications of such a vision.

De zorgsector wordt in toenemende mate geconfronteerd met uitdagingen als gevolg van groeiende vraag (o.a. door vergrijzing en complexiteit van zorg) en afnemend aanbod van zorgverleners (o.a. door personeelstekorten). Kunstmatige Intelligentie (AI) wordt als mogelijke oplossing gezien, maar wordt vaak vanuit een technologisch perspectief benaderd. Dit artikel kiest een mensgerichte benadering en bestudeert hoe zorgmedewerkers het werken met AI ervaren. Dit is belangrijk omdat zij uiteindelijk met deze applicaties moeten werken om de uitdagingen in de zorg het hoofd te bieden. Op basis van 21 semigestructureerde interviews met zorgmedewerkers die AI hebben gebruikt, beschrijven we de werkervaringen met AI. Met behulp van het AMO-raamwerk - wat staat voor abilities, motivation en opportunities - laten we zien dat AI een impact heeft op het werk van zorgmedewerkers. Het gebruik van AI vereist nieuwe competenties en de overtuiging dat AI de zorg kan verbeteren. Daarbij is er een noodzaak voor voldoende beschikbaarheid van training en ondersteuning. Tenslotte bediscussiëren we de implicaties voor theorie en geven we aanbevelingen voor HR-professionals.

While there is extensive research on how Russian interference – in particular Russian disinformation operation – has played out in different European countries, indications of Russian interference directly targeting EU, its institutions or policies received little attention. This paper argues why there is good reason to assume that the EU, its institutions and its policies are an ideal a target for authoritarian regimes to exploit. It then explores in what ways, if any, Russian disinformation campaigning targeted EU institutions and their policies during the political and electoral campaigns leading up to the European Parliament (EP) elections of May 2019. In this context disinformation campaigning in terms of both network flows and contents (‘narratives’) have been examined, on the basis of a review of various reports identifying Russian interference and disinformation and of analyses of overall disinformation flows in Europe and the use of a database monitoring occurrences of disinformation.

Elk jaar wordt een afgelegen locatie, zoals een eiland, getransformeerd tot een internationale ontmoetingsplaats waar workshops over kunst, media, gaming, wetenschap, technologie en duurzame innovatie worden gegeven. De uitwisselingsweek is transdisciplinair en stimuleert dialoog en actieve interactie tussen studenten, docenten, gastartiesten en deelnemende bezoekers, wat uiteindelijk leidt tot een klein festival. De publicatie 'Crisis! Re/Constructing Europe' gaat over de Island CQ editie die plaatsvond in Hongarije van 1 tot 13 mei, 2013. Tijdens de voorbereidingen van deze editie werden de media en het politieke debat beheerst door de financiële crisis in Europa. Elk land heeft een andere geschiedenis en dus een unieke relatie met Europa. Dit bracht de vraag naar boven wat de crisis eigenlijk betekende voor de mensen in verschillende Europese landen, en hoe ieder daar op zijn eigen manier mee omging.
