Bij onderzoek naar incidenten als fraude en handel met voorkennis is digitale informatie onmisbaar. Het selecteren, verwerken en doorzoeken van deze informatie wordt 'e-discovery' genoemd. Er zijn diverse zaken waar een bedrijf dat gegevens in de cloud wil opslaan op moet letten ten aanzien van e-discovery, bijvoorbeeld bestandskenmerken, snelheid en bestandsformaten, het land waar de gegevens worden opgeslagen en authenticatie.

E-discovery projects typically start with an assessment of the collected electronic data in order to estimate the risk to prosecute or defend a legal case. This is not a review task but is appropriately called early case assessment, which is better known as exploratory search in the information retrieval community. This paper first describes text mining methodologies that can be used for enhancing exploratory search. Based on these ideas we present a semantic search dashboard that includes entities that are relevant to investigators such as who knew who, what, where and when. We describe how this dashboard can be powered by results from our ongoing research in the “Semantic Search for E-Discovery” project on topic detection and clustering, semantic enrichment of user profiles, email recipient recommendation, expert finding and identity extraction from digital forensic evidence.

With the current growth of data in digital investigations, one solution for forensic investigators is to visualise the data for the detection of suspicious activity. However, this process can be complex and difficult to achieve, as there few tools available that are simple and can handle a wide variety of data types. This paper describes the development of a flexible platform, capable of visualising many different types of related data. The platform's back and front end can efficiently deal with large datasets, and supporta wide range of MIME types that can be easily extended. The paper also describes the development of the visualisation front end, which offers flexible, easily understandable visualisations of many different kinds of data and data relationships.

However, this relationship turned out to be more complicated. The current paper describes, by using personal lighting conditions in a field study, further exploration of the relationship between light and subjective alertness during daytime. Findings show that this relationship is highly dependent on the individual. Although nearly all dose-response curves between personal lighting conditions and subjective alertness determined in this study turned out to be not significant, the results may be of high importance in the exploration of the exact relationship.
