BrabantAdvies roept op om het leegstandsvraagstuk te koppelen aan de verduurzaming van de gebouwenvoorraad. Met de energietransitie staan overheden voor de opgave om op grote voet te verduurzamen en energie te besparen. Door de voorraad aan leegstaande gebouwen grondig langs te lopen, kan een afweging gemaakt worden welke panden zich lenen voor de verduurzaming. Daarbij zal ook dienen te worden afgewogen bij welke panden verduurzaming een overbodige ingreep is, aangezien ze geen toekomstperspectief hebben en voor sloop in aanmerking komen. Om dat mogelijk te maken zijn nieuwe instrumenten nodig. BrabantAdvies richt zich met haar boodschap niet enkel tot de provincie, maar juist ook tot gemeenten. Het onderstreept de uitgangspunten van de provinciale aanpak: het herbestemmen en transformeren van panden geldt als het ‘nieuwe bouwen’ en eigenaren en gemeenten zijn als eerste aan zet om de leegstand aan te pakken.

Hoe gaan scholen en lerarenopleiding samenwerken bij het opleiden van leraren? De verschuiving van de vaste rollen van opleiders is een ingewikkelde zaak.

Niet alleen in het bedrijfsleven geldt het gezegde Tijd is geld . Ook in het onderwijs is de laatste jaren enorm bezuinigd op contacttijd. Om deze reden is bij het ZKM-project StudieLoopbaanOndersteuning (SLO) gekxperimenteerd met een tijdbesparende opzet van de ZKM-methodiek. Daar een volledig zelfonderzoek (te) veel tijd vraagt van de consultant, is gezocht naar een vorm die minder tijd vergt maar die de student toch de gelegenheid biedt zijn (studie)verhaal te vertellen en zijn waarderingssysteem in kaart te brengen. Vanuit deze gedachte is een ZKM-traject ingericht waarin de dialoog is gecombineerd met een grote mate van zelfsturing van de student. De vraag hierbij is hoe effectief een dergelijke toepassing van de ZKM is. In dit rapport worden de resultaten van een pilot gepresenteerd waaraan studenten met studieproblemen van Fontys PABO Eindhoven hebben deelgenomen.

In the aftermath of the systemic financial crises of 2007-9, several scholars argued that the problem of systemic financial crises is not well understood. At the same time, the introduction of digital technologies led to new threats and opportunities for the design of the monetary and financial system. For example, thousands of private cryptocurrencies have been implemented and hundreds of research papers on the (possible) introduction of public digital currencies have been published. It is often not explained why these new forms of digital money are needed and which (systemic) problems they (can) solve. In addition, the literature does not provide requirements nor guidelines to shape the development of the monetary and financial system in the digital age. This thesis applies design science to the monetary and financial system as a whole. The application of this novel methodology offers new possibilities to examine this complex system. The contribution of this thesis is threefold. First, different theories on money, banking and systemic financial crises have been researched through an extensive literature review and balance sheets. Second, those theories have been used to develop design requirements and guidelines. Finally, the consensus and pivotal dissensions about the systemic problem(s) of the current monetary and financial system, requirements and guidelines among experts have been identified through semistructured interviews. This research process results in widely supported requirements that demarcate the design space and widely supported guidelines that aim to give direction within the design space, that is, to the future development of the monetary and financial system.

In het basismodule wetenschappelijke vaardigheden ontwikkelen de studenten meer begrip van methodologie en statistiek binnen de sport en beweegsector, alsook een kritische houding ten aanzien van onderzoeksresultaten. Omdat de Master of Sports een deeltijdstudie is en alle studenten ook werken in de beroepspraktijk, kan de student een bijdrage leveren aan het meer evidence-based maken van de beroepspraktijk op zijn werkplek. Zo heeft Bart van Gastel in opdracht van de Gelderse Sport Federatie een praktijkonderzoek uitgevoerd naar het effect van het aanleren van een B-Fit pauze-activiteit in de gymles op het spelen op het schoolplein bij 11- en 12-jarige meisjes.

This applied research project aims to generate a better understanding of the effects of heatwaves on vulnerable population groups in the municipality of The Hague, and suggests ways in which the municipality can help such groups to cope with these heatwaves. The research was performed as a cooperation between The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS), the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS, Erasmus University Rotterdam) and the International Centre for Frugal Innovation (ICFI, Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities). Heatwaves constitute an important yet often overlooked part of climate change and their impacts qualify as disasters. According to the World Disasters Report 2020, the three heatwaves affecting Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in the summer of 2019 caused 3,453 deaths.1 2020 was a new record year for the Netherlands because it was the first time that a heatwave included five days in a row during which the temperature reached 35 degrees or more. In addition, 40 degrees was measured for the first time, and periods of tropical days and nights are generally getting longer. Most importantly, this trend is accelerating faster than the climate change models are predicting.2 In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic is compounding the effect of heatwaves, as vulnerable individuals may be reluctant to seek cool spaces out of fear of infection. Already in 2006, the Netherlands ranked near the top of the global disaster index due to the number of excess deaths that could be attributed to the heatwave. In the same year, the EU published the first climate strategy in which heat is recognised as a priority. In 2008, the Netherlands developed its first national heat plan.4 The municipality of The Hague has a municipal climate adaptation strategy and has developed a draft local heat plan in the summer of 2021, which was published in February 2022 . This research was not meant to be and was not set up as an evaluation of the current heat plan, which has not yet been activated. At the level of municipalities and cities, the concept of urban resilience is key. It refers to “the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within a city to survive, adapt, and grow no matter what kinds of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience”. Heatwaves clearly constitute acute shocks which are rapidly developing into chronic stresses. In turn, heatwaves also exacerbate the chronic stresses that are already there, i.e. existing chronic stresses also lead to greater impact of a heatwave. In other words, there are negative interaction effects. Addressing these effects requires overcoming the silo approach to urban governance, in which different municipal departments as well as other stakeholders (such as the Red Cross, housing corporations, tenants’ associations, care organisations, entrepreneurs etc.) each address different parts of the problem, rather than doing so in an integrated and inclusive manner.
