ackground and aim – Driven by new technologies and societal challenges, futureproof facility managers must enable sustainable housing by combining bricks and bytes into future-proof business support and workplace concepts. The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) acknowledges the urgency of educating students about this new reality. As part of a large-scale two-year study into sustainable business operations, a living lab has been created as a creative space on the campus of THUAS where (novel) business activities and future-proof workplace concepts are tested. The aim is to gain a better understanding amongst students, lecturers, and the university housing department of bricks, bytes, behavior, and business support. Results – Based on different focal points the outcomes of this research present guidelines for facility managers how data-driven facility management creates value and a better understanding of sustainable business operations. In addition, this practice based research presents how higher education in terms of taking the next step in creating digitized skilled facility professionals can add value to their curriculum. Practical or social implications – The facility management profession has an important role to play in the mitigation of sustainable and digitized business operations. However, implementing high-end technology within the workplace can help to create a sustainable work environment and better use of the workplace. These developments will result in a better understanding of sustainable business operations and future-proof capabilities. A living lab is the opportunity to teach students to work with big data and provides a playground for them to test their circular workplace, business support designs, and smart building technologies.

The social company en het ver-internetten van de bedrijfsvoering zetten onderstaande principles op de Business Balance Scorecard. Deze statements hebben stuk voor stuk concrete gevolgen voor strategie, inrichting en operations, voor ICT oplossingen en voor HRM, als je bereid bent er 'door heen' te lezen. Ze vormen een basis voor prioriteitstelling, bijvoorbeeld bij projectselectie, investeringsbeslissingen, individuele beoordelingen of bij de keuze van nieuwe collega's. Op die manier kun je de verbinding strategie, ondernemerschap en uitvoerend vermogen van jouw rule-based corporate toetsen aan de principles van de socials. Wellicht begrijpt een corporate bank daarna een klein social bedrijf met een goed idee die startkapitaal wil wat beter. Bijdrage aan het opheffen van een misverstand.

The main question in this PhD thesis is: How can Business Rules Management be configured and valued in organizations? A BRM problem space framework is proposed, existing of service systems, as a solution to the BRM problems. In total 94 vendor documents and approximately 32 hours of semi-structured interviews were analyzed. This analysis revealed nine individual service systems, in casu elicitation, design, verification, validation, deployment, execution, monitor, audit, and version. In the second part of this dissertation, BRM is positioned in relation to BPM (Business Process Management) by means of a literature study. An extension study was conducted: a qualitative study on a list of business rules formulated by a consulting organization based on the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission risk framework. Zo'n ervaren met 'ongezocht leren' had ik ook met de pianist Wibi Soerjadi halverwege de jaren '90. Hij was toen 'hot', met zijn Bösi en zijn solo-recital in Carnegie Hall. Pas jaren later, toen e-business inmiddels een 'mentaal begrip' was, begreep ik hoe zeer hij eigenlijk al 'into e-business' was, avant la lettre, en hoezeer ik denkbeelden en begrip daar heb opgepikt.

By doing so, it offers strategic insights to help hospitality leaders navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the industry.Key findings from the Yearly Outlook include:• Recovery of International Travel: By 2024, international travel arrivals have surpassed 2019 levels by 2%, signalling a full recovery in the sector. In Amsterdam, there was a 13% decrease in business traveller numbers, offset by an increase in the average length of stay from 2.34 to 2.71 days. Notably, more business travellers opted for 3-star accommodations, marking a shift in preferences.• Future of Business Travel: The report outlines a baseline scenario that predicts a sustainable, personalised, and seamless business travel experience by 2035. Hoe kan business onderwijs bijdragen aan een economie die deugt? Dat is de centrale vraag van de onderzoekslijn Reshaping Business Education (RBE) waar lector Jacco van Uden van De Haagse Hogeschool zich druk om maakt. Hierbinnen richt ik me in de periode april 2021-december 2022 op de vraag hoe het business onderwijs een plek kan geven aan ‘omgaan met onzekerheid’. Als kunstenaar weet ik dat onzekerheid ook een creatieve kracht is, die ingezet kan worden in een business context. Onzekerheid als bron van innovatie. In Jacco als lector Change Management heb ik een medestander gevonden voor dit onderwerp.

Planning of transport through inland shipping is complex, highly dynamic and very specific. Existing software support is focusing on road transport planning and/or is merely a visual representation of shipments to be manually assigned to particular vessels. As a result inland shipment planning is time-consuming and highly relies on the personal skills of the planner. In this paper we present a business rules based model that aims to further support inland shipping organizations in their shipment planning by identifying the characteristics and constraints that are of interest and the related explicated business rules. The model is derived from transport-related literature, explorative expert interviews and transport management software vendors. The usability and applicability of the model is subsequently successfully empirically tested using identified performance measures through a case study at a major European inland shipping broker
