This article presents an evaluation study of a case management method for child protection services, the Delta Method for Family Supervision, in terms of supervision order duration and occurrence and duration of out-of-home placements. Additionally, case and case manager characteristics were examined. Data was collected about 224 cases, 58 case managers and 30 team managers of all 15 offices of the Child and Youth Protection Services in the Netherlands. In all cases the Delta Method was applied. Data were obtained by interviews, questionnaires and case files. Multi-level analysis was performed to study the influence of independent variables on supervision order duration, and the occurrence and duration of out-of-home placements. Case characteristics related to 87% of the differences in the duration of supervision order, case manager characteristics to 13% of the differences. Some case manager characteristics about applying the Delta Method were significantly related to shorter duration of the supervision order and the occurrence and duration of out-of-home placement. Case characteristics also showed strong relations. Together with the more general aspects of case management supported by this study, such as a one family and one worker approach, this contributes to a more effective practice of case management for child protection services.

Professionals' willingness to change is a necessity for successful implementation of changes in the organisation. This study focused on the influence of a transformational leadership style on professionals' willingness to change. This multiple case study was performed in three project management organisations that had recently implemented a new business information system. The research data were obtained through both qualitative and quantitative data collection. The qualitative investigation revealed that through leading by good example a manager has a positive influence on their employees' willingness to change. However, the quantitative investigation showed that there is no relationship between transformational leadership and the motivational factors of willingness to change. Due to the existing pressure for a more rational use of the water, many public managers and industries have to re-think/adapt their processes towards a more circular approach. Such pressure is even more critical in the Rio Doce region, Minas Gerais, due to the large environmental accident occurred in 2015. Cenibra (pulp mill) is an example of such industries due to the fact that it is situated in the river basin and that it has a water demanding process. The current proposal is meant as an academic and engineering study to propose possible solutions to decrease the total water consumption of the mill and, thus, decrease the total stress on the Rio Doce basin. The work will be divided in three working packages, namely: (i) evaluation (modelling) of the mill process and water balance (ii) application and operation of a pilot scale wastewater treatment plant (iii) analysis of the impacts caused by the improvement of the process. The second work package will also be conducted (in parallel) with a lab scale setup in The Netherlands to allow fast adjustments and broaden evaluation of the setup/process performance. The actions will focus on reducing the mill total water consumption in 20%.
Kunstenaars en andere ‘creatieven’ vinden steeds moeilijker betaalbare werkruimte. Atelierstichtingen en broedplaatsorganisaties zitten klem tussen oplopende kosten, teruglopende subsidies en de structureel zwak-ke inkomenspositie van de hurende kunstenaars. Een manifest van Platform BK, dat beeldend kunstenaars vertegenwoordigt, en de KunstenBond agendeert dit vraagstuk. Een bijkomend probleem vormt de hoogspan-ning op de vastgoedmarkt, waardoor panden zeer gewild zijn bij projectontwikkelaars en gemeenten geneigd zijn om voor de panden die zij aan deze organisaties verhuren andere draagkrachtigere huurders te zoeken. Medewerkers en management van broedplaatsorganisaties staan voor de uitdaging om hun businesscase maatschappelijk en financieel te verduurzamen. Dit vraagt om nieuwe waardeproposities en herpositionering ten opzichte van de gemeente en andere publieke en private stakeholders. Ook het profiel van de broed-plaatsprofessional verandert. Ontwikkelaars van broedplaatsen zijn veelal geleidelijk in hun organiseren-de/coördinerende rol gegroeid. Het speelveld van stedelijke (gebieds)ontwikkeling waarop zij opereren is echter dynamisch. De broedplaatsprofessional krijgt steeds nadrukkelijker de positie van stedelijke kwartiermaker: een nieuwe, hybride rol op het snijvlak van vastgoed, cultuur, welzijn en ruimtelijk(-economisch)e ontwikkeling. Dit project beoogt broedplaatsorganisaties te voeden met (bedrijfs-)strategieën om hun businessmodel toe-komstbestendig te maken en deze te vertalen naar benodigde competenties voor de betrokken professionals. Alleen zo kunnen zij blijven bijdragen aan de politiek gewenste levendige en veelkleurige stad, waar mensen graag wonen en bedrijven zich graag vestigen. Veel onderzoek onderbouwt dat steden die investeren in cultuur economisch beter presteren. Daarbij gaat het niet alleen om toptheaters en –musea maar juist ook om innova-tie en creativiteit ‘van onderop’. Fontys Hogescholen gaat deze problematiek onderzoeken met inzet van een breed consortium creatieve ver-zamelgebouwen, netwerk- en kennispartners. Gezamenlijk vertegenwoordigen deze organisaties ruim 300 ate-liergebouwen/broedplaatsen, 4.700 werkruimten en honderdveertig professionals. De broedplaatsenproble-matiek speelt bovendien in vrijwel alle G40-steden, hetgeen de resultaten van dit project potentieel relevant maakt voor honderden professionals bij gemeenten, woningcorporaties en andere vastgoedeigenaren.
The Dutch Environmental Vision and Mobility Vision 2050 promote climate-neutral urban growth around public transport stations, envisioning them as vibrant hubs for mobility, community, and economy. However, redevelopment often increases construction, a major CO₂ contributor. Dutch practice-led projects like 'Carbon Based Urbanism', 'MooiNL - Practical guide to urban node development', and 'Paris Proof Stations' explore integrating spatial and environmental requirements through design. Design Professionals seek collaborative methods and tools to better understand how can carbon knowledge and skills be effectively integrated into station area development projects, in architecture and urban design approaches. Redeveloping mobility hubs requires multi-stakeholder negotiations involving city planners, developers, and railway managers. Designers act as facilitators of the process, enabling urban and decarbonization transitions. CARB-HUB explores how co-creation methods can help spatial design processes balance mobility, attractiveness, and carbon neutrality across multiple stakeholders. The key outputs are: 1- Serious Game for Co-Creation, which introduces an assessment method for evaluating the potential of station locations, referred to as the 4P value framework. 2-Design Toolkit for Decarbonization, featuring a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide sustainable development. 3- Research Bid for the DUT–Driving Urban Transitions Program, focusing on the 15-minute City Transition Pathway. 4- Collaborative Network dedicated to promoting a low-carbon design approach. The 4P value framework offers a comprehensive method for assessing the redevelopment potential of station areas, focusing on four key dimensions: People, which considers user experience and accessibility; Position, which examines the station's role within the broader transport network; Place-making, which looks at how well the station integrates into its surrounding urban environment; and Planet, which addresses decarbonization and climate adaptation. CARB-HUB uses real cases of Dutch stations in transition as testbeds. By translating abstract environmental goals into tangible spatial solutions, CARB-HUB enables scenario-based planning, engaging designers, policymakers, infrastructure managers, and environmental advocates.
