In opdracht van het Groninger Instituut Archeologie van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en de Doggerland projectgroep is onderzoek gedaan naar de effectiviteit van de Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) en fotogrammetrie. Deze twee technieken zijn toegepast op kaakfragmenten met gebitselementen uit het Mesolithicum en de Bronstijd om te onderzoeken of het mogelijk is om met deze technieken een verschil in dieet aan te tonen. Daarnaast is de Artec Spider 3D-scanner toegepast op de gebitselementen. Deze scans zijn gemaakt door externen, waarna de resultaten opgenomen zijn in het onderzoek. Uit het onderzoek is gebleken dat het vaststellen van specifieke verschillen van gebitsslijtage tussen jager-verzamelaars en vroege boeren niet mogelijk is op basis van de RTI-techniek en fotogrammetrie. Beide technieken leveren niet de gewenste resultaten. Zo maakt de RTI-techniek enkel een opname van bovenaf, waardoor de zijaanzichten van de gebitselementen niet onderzocht kunnen worden. De fotogrammetrische techniek is niet gedetailleerd genoeg. Zo vloeien verschillende gebitselementen in elkaar over en zijn sommige elementen niet scherp genoeg om met zekerheid vast te stellen of hier überhaupt slijtagesporen op zijn aangetroffen. Desondanks is het wel mogelijk geweest om de slijtagesporen in beeld te brengen met de Artec Spider 3D-scanner. Deze scanner maakt het mogelijk om de specifieke verschijnselen van gebitsslijtage op de gebitselementen uit het Mesolithicum en de Bronstijd in beeld te brengen.

Abstract: There is growing evidence for the beneficial effects of starting oral health prevention early in life. Preventing dental caries in very young children requires considerable investment from parents. Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to explore parents’ willingness to pay (WTP) and willingness to invest in time (WTIT) for primary oral health prevention in preschool children and describe whether these are related to the parents’ demographic, socio-economic and behavioural characteristics. In a convenience sample of parents of preschool children aged six months to four years (n = 142), data were collected with questionnaires. On average, parents were willing to pay EUR15.84 per month, invest time for 1.9 dental visits per year, and spend 2.4 min per day brushing their child’s teeth. A higher education level of the mother and having a child older than two were associated with a higher WTIT in brushing minutes per day (p = 0.03). In addition, parents who brushed their child’s teeth more frequently were also more willing to invest in brushing minutes (p < 0.01) and money (p < 0.01). Findings emphasise the importance of early oral health interventions and the need to increase awareness of primary prevention’s importance in maintaining healthy teeth and reducing possibly oral health inequalities.
Objective: To conduct a capacity and needs assessment identifying important factors for the successful implementation of an oral health coach (OHC) at well-baby clinics. This Toddler Oral Health Intervention (TOHI) provides oral health promotion to parents to prevent early childhood caries. Methods: A two-round Delphi study was conducted with an expert panel consisting of OHCs and paediatric staff. The survey was based on the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), consisting of 39 constructs divided over 5 domains: intervention characteristics (8), inner setting (14), outer setting (4), characteristics of individuals (5) and the process of implementation (8). Results: Constructs relating to the inner setting, outer setting and implementation process were identified as essential. Availability of resources, information on how to execute or facilitate the intervention, and the integration of the intervention into existing work tasks were also essential. Alignment and partnership between OHCs and paediatric staff, along with the prioritization of parents' and children's needs were emphasized. A formally appointed internal implementation leader within each organization, capable of transferring their enthusiasm to the team, and regular meetings for progress and experience sharing were considered essential. Conclusion: Specific strategies are needed in the implementation phase to increase the adoption, implementation and maintenance of the TOHI, ultimately leading to improved oral health in children. This study provides valuable insights into important factors for implementation of an oral health intervention in a public health setting.
