Considering recent calls for change towards a more liveable tourism academia, critical participatory action research is combined with duoethnography to develop The Academic Line—a humorous comic project about academic life. Traditional theories of humour are used to leverage the effectiveness of comics as communicative devices and explored how and to what extent the project promoted solidarity, reflexivity, well-being, and change. This study reveals the concrete commitment to fostering change within and potentially improving academia, and to experiment with a form of communication, which is still underexplored in the scholarly sphere but fruitfully applied in other contexts to raise awareness of and prompt discussion about crucially important issues.

During the medieval and early modern periods, the mock sermon was one of the most widely staged festive rituals. There are records of its performance in most European countries and cultures. But despite its clear popularity in England, few of these texts are extant in English. Fewer still have been translated in their entirety. To remedy this situation, we provide here a translation of the sixteenth century Dutch poem Spotsermoen over Sint Niemand. This piece embodies most of the key features of the mock sermon; the text's rhetorical strategies, its content, and the details it reveals about its performance are all typical of the genre. Thus, the poem is offered as a specimen of the mock sermon's overall conventions and forms.

Voor het nummer over ethiek spraken de auteurs met Jeffrey Wijnberg - psycholoog, publicist en schrijver van een groot aantal populairwetenschappelijke boeken. Wijnberg werkt als gezondheidspsycholoog en psychotherapeut en is met name bekend geworden door zijn bijzondere stijl van begeleiden: de provocatieve stijl. ‘Uitdagen met liefde en humor’, schrijft hij daar zelf over op zijn website. Het uitdagen bij provocatief behandelen gaat soms ver. Dat is de reden waarom de auteurs met hem van gedachten wilden wisselen over de vraag: iemand helpen door te provoceren, kun je dat wel maken?
