Working and learning in ateliers

In 2019, the first "Atelier Book" was published . Since then, a few years have passed and numerous new Ateliers have emerged. With this new atelier book, through more than 30 portraits, the richness and variety of ateliers within our college are shown. The portraits are divided as follows: ateliers at the NHL Stenden locations, external ateliers and ateliers which the facilities are a strong determinant. These portraits show which issues are being worked on, how they cooperate with the field and researchers and what the added value of the Ateliers is. This atelier book also contains a number of in-depth articles that talk about working and learning in ateliers. The contribution in chapter 1 is about: what NHL Stenden aims at with ateliers, where do the ateliers differ and some experiences with ateliers. After the portraits in chapter 2, chapter 3 presents the 'Atelier Value Creation Model' and a model with design dimensions. Both provide tools for designing and evaluating ateliers. Chapter 4 zooms in on the effects of physical space on learning. Then, Chapter 5 discusses the outcomes of (current) research on ateliers.

Preparing researchers for patient and public involvement in scientific research

Background: Acquiring the theoretical and practical knowhow of conducting patient and public involvement (PPI) in research is not part of the traditional curriculum of researchers. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and Huis voor de Zorg, a regional umbrella patient organization, therefore started a 1.5-year coaching programme. Objective: To establish a community of practice by developing a PPI coaching programme for senior and junior health services researchers of Zuyd University. The context consisted of research projects conducted by the participants. Methods: A participatory action research methodology. Data were collected from reports of thematic group meetings and individual sessions with participants, field notes and regular reflection meetings with the project team. Data were analysed by reflexive deliberation. Findings: The programme comprised a kick-off meeting (52 attendees), followed by 7 group meetings with 11 junior and 9 senior researchers. The project team constructed a serious game based on the concept of the participation ladder. Questions and concerns differed for junior and senior researchers, and separate tailored meetings were organized for both groups. Between group meetings, participants received individual assignments. Group meetings were accompanied by individual coaching sessions to provide tailor-made feedback. The programme concluded with a combined meeting with all stakeholders. Conclusion: Building a community of PPI practice through action research facilitates the development of a coaching programme that fosters social learning, empowerment and the development of a shared identity concerning PPI. The role and responsibilities of senior researchers should be distinguished from those of junior researchers.

Zomercursussen

De onderzoekslijn Studiesucces heeft verschillende onderzoeken gedaan naar zomercursussen bij Hogeschool Inholland. In deze poster staan de bevindingen van de onderzoeken die we uitvoerden voor de zomercursus Wiskunde bij de opleiding Luchtvaarttechnologie, de zomercursus Rekenen, Taal & Studievaardigheden bij de opleiding Finance & Control en het Kick-Start College van alle opleidingen op de locatie Rotterdam. De studenten waren tevreden en hun prestaties verbeterden daadwerkelijk.

Integrating prospective students with a three-day pre-academic program

Kick-Start College is a three-day pre-academic program (summer school) for prospective first year students of Inholland Rotterdam, University of Applied Sciences. The aim is to integrate students academically and socially, which could make the transition to higher education easier and eventually lead to lower dropout rates of students. Research has been conducted on both student experiences with the program as well as effects of the program. Method: pretest-posttest with academic-, social-, professional- and university integration1, self-esteem, motivation, evaluation.

Binden van aankomende studenten door middel van een zomercursus

Onderzoeksposter gepresenteerd op EFYE 2018 en ORD 2018 Het Kick-Start College is een driedaagse zomercursus gericht op het binden en boeien van aankomende eerstejaars studenten, wat vervolgens zou kunnen leiden tot minder uitval in het eerste studiejaar. Onderzocht is of studenten na deelname, in vergelijking tot voorafgaand aan deelname, een hogere mate van binding ervaren. Daarnaast is onderzocht of studenten die deelnemen verschillen van studenten die niet deelnemen in onder andere motivatie en zelfvertrouwen.
