There is a need for modernizing the Dutch collective management system of music copyright to match the rapidly changing digital music industry. Focusing on the often-neglected human values aspect, this study, part of a larger PhD research, examines the value preferences of music rights holders: creators and publishers. It aims to advise on technological redesign for music copyright management system and contribute to discussions on equitable collective management. Building upon prior research, which comprehensively analyzed the Dutch music copyright system and identified key stakeholders, this paper analyses 24 interviews with those key stakeholders to identify their values and potential value tensions. Initial findings establish a set of shared values, crucial for the next phases of the study –values operationalization. This research makes a academic contribution by integrating the Value Sensitive Design (VSD) approach with Distributive Justice Theory, enriching VSD's application and enhancing our understanding of the Economics of Collective Management (ECM).

This document consists of the research report of Work Package 3 of ProMiMiC's locations Groningen and The Hague. Through the implementation of MiMiC-projects in the form of ‘living labs’, research data was generated leading to insights into (1) concepts of interprofessionality between musicians and healthcare professionals, (2) effects of the MiMiC-practice on nurses’ compassionate skills in contact with patients and (3) the influence of the various contexts on the MiMiC-practice. Given the fact that hospitals are the site of study in ProMiMiC, the research activities of Work Package 3 got highly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It led to additional questions and expansion of the MiMiC practice to directions that the consortium hadnot foreseen.
Music interventions are used for stress reduction in a variety of settings because of the positive effects of music listening on both physiological arousal (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure, and hormonal levels) and psychological stress experiences (e.g., restlessness, anxiety, and nervousness). To summarize the growing body of empirical research, two multilevel meta-analyses of 104 RCTs, containing 327 effect sizes and 9,617 participants, were performed to assess the strength of the effects of music interventions on both physiological and psychological stress-related outcomes, and to test the potential moderators of the intervention effects. Results showed that music interventions had an overall significant effect on stress reduction in both physiological (d = .380) and psychological (d = .545) outcomes. Further, moderator analyses showed that the type of outcome assessment moderated the effects of music interventions on stress-related outcomes. Larger effects were found on heart rate (d = .456), compared to blood pressure (d = .343) and hormone levels (d = .349). Implications for stress-reducing music interventions are discussed.
Binnen het huidige muziekaanbod voor ouderen zijn veel praktijken gericht op woonzorg- en verpleeghuizen. Het grootste deel van de kwetsbare ouderen woont echter thuis. Vanuit de gedachte dat muziek een katalysator kan zijn voor welzijn en welbevinden, wordt met Dichtbij met Muziek een nieuwe innovatieve muziekpraktijk geïnitieerd waarbij professionele musici op maat muziek maken voor kwetsbare ouderen die (nog) thuis wonen en hun mantelzorgers. De uitbraak van de corona-pandemie zorgde ervoor dat de praktijk uiteindelijk virtueel tot stand is gekomen.Voorziene uitkomsten van het onderzoek naar de (virtuele) praktijk zijn:-Een nieuw ontworpen virtuele vorm van persoonsgericht musiceren met kwetsbare ouderen die (nog) thuis wonen en hun mantelzorgers, mogelijk inzetbaar in diverse situaties van isolatie;-Beter begrip van de bijdrage die (virtueel) persoonsgericht musiceren kan leveren aan het welzijn van kwetsbare ouderen, hun mantelzorgers en hun directe omgeving.Professionele musici ontwikkelen steeds vaker praktijken in ouderenzorgcontexten. De afgelopen jaren heeft het lectoraat Lifelong Learning in Music in samenwerking met (inter)nationale partners uit de muziek- en zorgsector nieuwe intramurale persoonsgerichte muziekpraktijken ontwikkeld: in verpleeghuizen voor mensen met dementie (Muziek en Dementie 2010-2014) en in het ziekenhuis (MiMiC - Meaningful Music in Healthcare 2015-heden). Gemeenschappelijk bij al deze praktijken is de persoonsgerichte aanpak, waarbij musici (gearrangeerd) repertoire spelen of een nieuw stuk improviseren, ‘in het moment’ en op maat van mensen. Binnen het huidige muziekaanbod voor ouderen zijn veel praktijken gericht op woonzorg- en verpleeghuizen. Het grootste deel van de kwetsbare ouderen in Nederland woont echter thuis. Dichtbij met muziek wil onderzoeken hoe persoonsgericht musiceren kan worden ingezet op maat van een groeiende groep thuiswonende kwetsbare ouderen en hun mantelzorgers. Als gevolg van de coronapandemie is de ontwikkeling van de praktijk gestart op virtuele wijze.Het doel van dit onderzoek is de ontwikkeling van een virtuele vorm van persoonsgericht musiceren voor kwetsbare ouderen en hun naasten, cq. mantelzorgers, waarbij wordt gedoeld op het versterken van bestaande relaties en gevoel van menselijke waardigheid.
The findings suggests that participation in music practices can significantly support caregivers' and nurses' contact with the people to whom they give care and the healthcare professionals' insights into the patients' and residents' personhood. Music can create experienced changes in the care environment through kairotic moments of connectivity and intimacy of the musical interaction. The music sessions support and reinforce the person-centred values of care delivery.The meaning of participatory music practices for the well-being and learning of healthcare professionals working with ageing patients and nursing home residents.
Since 2015, the research group Lifelong Learning in Music of Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, together with the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), has developed and researched the MiMiC practice for patients and nurses on surgical wards. The musicians make tailor-made music in the patients' rooms in collaboration with patients and nurses. They do this on the basis of verbal and non-verbal contact with patients and nurses. Person-centred music-making turns out to be easy to realise in a medical setting and to be meaningful for all involved. People who have just had surgery experience less pain. Nurses feel more deeply involved with their patients. Musicians show sensitivity for the social context in which they carry out their artistic practice.In this project the research group is developing an innovative artistic practice with a focus on elderly patients. Musicians work with patients and the care staff that are taking care of these patients during their stay in hospital. The research should lead to insights in the effects of this practice and to a new training for master students and professional musicians who want wish to specialise themselves in this field. Pilots on six different wards of the UMCG with professional musicians and master students are part of the research which will last two years in its entirety.
