This book, ‘Outreach work and imminent eviction: RAAK research’, is a report of the results obtained from the examination of these innovations. The first chapter contains a description of the pilot projects, which brought together care workers from the Blankenberg Foundation and Dynamo for early intervention aimed at preventing threatened evictions. In these interventions, they tried to stay a step ahead of a crisis by getting involved early on the basis of information housing corporations had about their residents’ payment problems. Chapter 2 is a report of a later investigation of the long-term effects of these interventions. The third chapter describes the pilot projects developed by Dynamo and PuurZuid, which made use of the expertise available in the general public, specifically the network of family, friends and neighbours surrounding people with rent payment debts. The expectation was that care workers would be able to provide more effective help using the decisionmaking model of the Family Group Conference. Additionally, the Family Group Conference would add to the strength of the client perspective, offering scope for a range of definitions for problems and their solutions. Chapter 4 describes knowledge and methodology aspects of innovation research such as were involved in this project, specifically, the new knowledge of innovation processes and outreach work that this research has brought to light. The project has also helped to define the De Karthuizer centre’s core activity more precisely, describing how it can provide support and solidarity for developments in the field that will lead to innovation that will transcend the boundaries between social work institutions. Finally, Chapter 5 will address the lessons we have learned during the course of the project.

In this article, we have presented the two-sided research design that we developed for answering the question about how and what professionals and other participants of outreach social work practices learn from innovating their own practices. We distinguished five strengths the representatives of which all have to learn to play new roles in order to improve democratization and enabling the citizenship of citizens in vulnerable situations. Without outreach research, it would not have been possible to expose the connection between the learning of representatives of these strengths and other transformation processes on an individual, team, and systemic level. This underlines the importance of outreach research for successful innovations in the social field. In our opinion, our two-sided research design is a precondition for the co-creation of these relative autonomous strengths and the connectedness of each of these three levels. This article is based on the article about the research design of a multi case study of four educational cases Martin Stam wrote for International Journal Of Qualitative Studies in Education (2013b). This research design also formed the basis for a multi case study of six social work cases (published as 'Geef de burger moed' (2012)) and of three social quarter teams (is still ongoing). Both publications were used as a pad for his lecture for NOSMO, HvA en Andragogenkring in 2013. The article presented here elaborates on the findings of the social work and social quarter team case studies.

In recent years, disasters are increasing in numbers, location, intensity and impact; they have become more unpredictable due to climate change, raising questions about disaster preparedness and management. Attempts by government entities at limiting the impact of disasters are insufficient, awareness and action are urgently needed at the citizen level to create awareness, develop capacity, facilitate implementation of management plans and to coordinate local action at times of uncertainty. We need a cultural and behavioral change to create resilient citizens, communities, and environments. To develop and maintain new ways of thinking has to start by anticipating long-term bottom-up resilience and collaborations. We propose to develop a serious game on a physical tabletop that allows individuals and communities to work with a moderator and to simulate disasters and individual and collective action in their locality, to mimic real-world scenarios using game mechanics and to train trainers. Two companies–Stratsims, a company specialized in game development, and Society College, an organization that aims to strengthen society, combine their expertise as changemakers. They work with Professor Carola Hein (TU Delft), who has developed knowledge about questions of disaster and rebuilding worldwide and the conditions for meaningful and long-term disaster preparedness. The partners have already reached out to relevant communities in Amsterdam and the Netherlands, including UNUN, a network of Ukrainians in the Netherlands. Jaap de Goede, an experienced strategy simulation expert, will lead outreach activities in diverse communities to train trainers and moderate workshops. This game will be highly relevant for citizens to help grow awareness and capacity for preparing for and coping with disasters in a bottom-up fashion. The toolkit will be available for download and printing open access, and for purchase. The team will offer training and facilitate workshops working with local communities to initiate bottom-up change in policy making and planning.
Dit Living lab staat in teken van het bevorderen van sport en bewegen voor bewoners waarvoor het sportaanbod nu niet voldoende of moeilijk te bereiken is. Het project is hierbij opgedeeld in drie deelprojecten, waar we voor elke specifieke doelgroep (40-65 jaar) een werkwijze ontwikkelen om een duurzame samenwerking op te zetten.Doel Het overkoepelende doel is bewoners uit de doelgroep naar beweging en sporten toe te leiden. Door middel van design thinking methoden borduren we voort op de geïdentificeerde oplossingsrichtingen in fase 1. Deelproject 1: Het bouwen aan een groeiend platform waarin sportaanbieders en sporten gekoppeld worden en zo een flexibel sportaanbod te creëren. Verder willen we inzicht krijgen in wat er nodig is om de al werkende – sportplanner – app beter aan te laten sluiten bij haar gebruikers. Deelproject 2: Het opzetten van een duurzaam sportmaatjesproject voor mensen met een beperking (fysiek, verstandelijk of door bijvoorbeeld long COVID) in samenwerking met HU-studenten, de buurtsportcoach aangepast sporten en minimaal één werkplaatsdocent van de HU met als doel de sportdeelname voor deze doelgroep te vergroten. Deelproject 3: Het verbinden van de hulpvraag met het beweegaanbod verbinden en daarmee aan te sluiten op de behoeften van deze doelgroep. Bewegen wordt ingezet als middel en door een inclusief co-design ontwerpproces zal dit aanbod passend gemaakt worden. Het bereiken van de doelgroep en het uitvoeren van kleine pilots staat centraal. Resultaten uit de eerste fase De behoefte van de doelgroep (40-65 jaar) op het gebied van bewegen en gezondheid is in kaart gebracht. Er is inzicht verkregen in de complexiteit van de doelgroep met de uitkomst dat het belangrijk is oog te hebben voor de verschillende subgroepen binnen de doelgroep. Er zijn drie deelprojecten opgezet aan de hand van deze subgroepen; de sporter met behoefte aan een flexibel sportaanbod, de sporter met een fysieke beperking en de groep waar een zodanige complexe hulpvraag speelt dat sport kan worden ingezet als middel ter bevordering van het welzijn van deze groep. Er is een nieuw netwerk ontstaan waarin de nadruk ligt op inwonerparticipatie. Looptijd 31 december 2019 - 01 februari 2022 Aanpak In het Living Lab zal gewerkt gaan worden met de Design thinking methode. Ook zullen ervaringsdeskundigen op het gebied van eenzaamheid en een verbeterde leefstijl ingezet worden. Het levert een kruisbestuiving op tussen dorpsteams, buurtsportcoaches, en (ervaringsdeskundige) inwoners. Relevantie van het project Dit project zal vernieuwend zijn voor beleidsmedewerkers, social workers en sportprofessionals die zich bezig houden met de onderwerpen gezondheidsbevordering en preventie. phōnē – Giving Minority Languages a Voice is a project application to safeguards and promotes cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe. We will connect people who belong to a language minority in their countries with European values across language and cultural borders. 10 institutions will cooperate for the first time, breaking new ground for the RML theatre sector and improving their standing nationallyand internationally. phōnē will be the first ever major international collaboration between theatres working for minority languages.“Languages are vehicles of our cultures, collective memory and values. They are an essential component of our identities, and a building block of our diversity and living heritage.”The loss of a language means not only the loss of a basic element of communication, but also of a complete system of knowledge developed over time. The disappearance of a language also means the loss of a unique, unrecoverable universe associated with a particular environment. It means the loss of diversity.Phōnē wants to make an active contribution to the vitalisation of endangered minority languages. In order to keep endangered languages alive, theatre is one of the most suitable media because it provides a space for language, but also because it uses non-language-based forms of communication. In this way, theatre in particular makes it easier for people who do not yet have a confident knowledge of theminority language to get started. This will safeguard cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe. Strengthening the cultures and their languages will also strengthen the economic basis of the theatres working in these minority languages.phōnē is aiming for three main objectives to strengthen theatre in its role of vitalising endangered minority languages.A – Giving Minority Languages a voiceTogether we will search for narratives that tell about the people in their minority language region. Thestories are about and from people who live and work in remote regions of Europe and are written anddeveloped in the respective minority language.B – Giving Minority Languages a European stageThe developed texts need a stage to reach the widest possible audience. As different as the expectednarratives will be, so different will be the stages (outreach / site-specific / digital) on which they are presented.Different formats support the goal of addressing the broadest possible audience in the communitiesand involving them both passively and actively in the use of their minority language.
