This publication follows and analysis the proces in the region Westerkwartier in the Netherlands in their effort to built a whole new regionale food chain. In this report there is a remarkeble role for the knowledge instutions on vocational and applied level.

Saxion is part of the Dutch system of universities for higher vocational training and applied sciences. In this paper a case study is presented to gain more insight in spin offs of these types of universities, and their effect on the regional economy. For this purpose a database of 152 spin offs has been developed and a first survey was analysed. Most spin offs are active in the ICT and business services sectors. We have compared the results with the spin offs University of Twente. We observed that the percentage of spin offs, which was located outside the surrounding region of Saxion (33%) was significantly higher, than the percentage of spin off of the University of Twente (22%). The spin offs outside the region also have employees than Saxion spin off in the region. There is however no difference in the way the spin off perceive the business climate of their location. Stimulating entrepreneurship at universities of applied seems a good strategy to support the development of the promising knowledge intensive service sector in the eastern part of the |Netherlands. On the other hand this strategy should be accompanied with policy instruments aiming at convincing alumni entrepreneurs to stay in the region.

Aanleiding Sinds kort nemen zorgprofessionals en onderzoekers in Nederland initiatieven om mensen met een licht verstandelijke beperking (LVB) zo lang mogelijk te laten functioneren in de eigen thuissituatie. Een manier om dit te doen is de inzet van zogenoemde Functional Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) teams. Deze teams gebruiken voornamelijk verbale interventies. Maar mensen met een LVB hebben moeite met het verwerken van verbale informatie. Vaktherapie kan juist met non-verbale en ervaringsgerichte methodieken goed aansluiten bij deze groep. Dit innovatieprogramma richt zich op de vraag van vaktherapeuten hoe en in welke vorm zij, in of rondom FACT LVB-teams, mensen met een LVB kunnen helpen. Doelstelling Het doel van de deelnemers aan het project is de zorg en ondersteuning van mensen met een LVB in de eigen thuissituatie (buurt/wijk) te verbeteren. Liefst zodanig dat deze mensen minder vaak hoeven te worden (her)opgenomen in een behandelcentrum. Het doel van het project is om de meerwaarde vast te stellen van de inzet van vaktherapie in of rondom FACT LVB teams bij het realiseren van deze ambitie. Het project is gefaseerd opgebouwd. In de eerste fase worden de vaktherapeutische behandelvormen bepaald. Vervolgens worden efficiënte interprofessionele werkwijzen en een vaktherapeutische behandel- & ondersteuningsroute vastgesteld, en ten slotte wordt het project geëvalueerd. Beoogde resultaten Het project biedt resulteert in een handreiking voor professionals om interprofessioneel samen te werken in de wijk voor mensen met LVB. Binnen het onderwijs levert het project een bijdrage aan een minor 'Wijkgerichte zorg & ondersteuning'. Het biedt een leerwerkplaats LVB voor studenten vaktherapie en aanpalende gebieden. De handreiking wordt geïmplementeerd in de opleidingen die opleiden tot vaktherapeut. Zogenaamde 'battles', waarin interprofessioneel samenwerken aan problemen vanuit de praktijk en het beste idee bekroond wordt met een stimuleringsprijs, zorgen voor verdere ontwikkeling. Publicaties in vakliteratuur zorgen voor verspreiding van de projectresultaten. De deelnemers aan het project zullen aansluiting zoeken bij symposia - regionaal, nationaal en internationaal - en bijeenkomsten buiten en binnen het netwerk om de resultaten aan een breed publiek te presenteren.
Vanwege veranderende onderwijskundige inzichten - 21st century learning - worden schoolgebouwen verbouwd of vervangen door nieuwbouw. Deze 21st century leeromgevingen blijken in de praktijk niet te voldoen aan de verwachting van de gebruikers. Het ontwikkelen en gebruiken van een 21st century leeromgeving stelt blijkbaar specifieke eisen aan de 21st century competenties van alle betrokkenen. Dit roept vragen op ten aanzien van product en proces. De beantwoording van deze vragen vereist kennis van wisselwerking tussen psycho-sociale leeromgeving en fysieke leeromgeving. Het betreft onder andere de benodigde “ruimtelijke competenties” van de betrokkenen om de fysieke leeromgevingen te ontwikkelen en te gebruiken en - andersom - hoe de fysieke leeromgeving de ontwikkeling van 21st century competenties beïnvloedt. De kiem voor dit onderzoeksproject is gelegd toen scholen en vormgevers deze vragen voorlegden aan experts van de NHL Hogeschool en TU Eindhoven. Dit KIEM project wil de probleemstelling in één of meerdere praktijkvragen articuleren door het uitvoeren van een reeks workshops met een focusgroep van stakeholders. De uitkomsten hiervan zullen worden vertaald naar een voorstel voor een langduriger onderzoeksproject. In dit beoogde vervolgproject zullen de gearticuleerde vragen worden vertaald naar één of meer praktijkonderzoeken waarin wetenschappelijke kennis en methodes worden doorontwikkeld en beproefd op het effectief stimuleren van 21st century vaardigheden van docenten en vormgevers in praktijksituaties. Dit project maakt deel uit van de opbouw van een regionaal kennisnetwerk Onderwijs & Ruimte, wat op een duurzame wijze wil bijdragen aan de kennisontwikkeling en -deling betreffende de 21st century leeromgeving. De kern van dit netwerk wordt gevormd door de initiatiefnemers van deze aanvraag; Adema Architecten (MKB), lectoraat Open Innovation van de NHL Hogeschool (Onderzoeksinstelling) en Next Level (Onderwijs).
The focus of this project is on improving the resilience of hospitality Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by enabling them to take advantage of digitalization tools and data analytics in particular. Hospitality SMEs play an important role in their local community but are vulnerable to shifts in demand. Due to a lack of resources (time, finance, and sometimes knowledge), they do not have sufficient access to data analytics tools that are typically available to larger organizations. The purpose of this project is therefore to develop a prototype infrastructure or ecosystem showcasing how Dutch hospitality SMEs can develop their data analytic capability in such a way that they increase their resilience to shifts in demand. The one year exploration period will be used to assess the feasibility of such an infrastructure and will address technological aspects (e.g. kind of technological platform), process aspects (e.g. prerequisites for collaboration such as confidentiality and safety of data), knowledge aspects (e.g. what knowledge of data analytics do SMEs need and through what medium), and organizational aspects (what kind of cooperation form is necessary and how should it be financed).Societal issueIn the Netherlands, hospitality SMEs such as hotels play an important role in local communities, providing employment opportunities, supporting financially or otherwise local social activities and sports teams (Panteia, 2023). Nevertheless, due to their high fixed cost / low variable business model, hospitality SMEs are vulnerable to shifts in consumer demand (Kokkinou, Mitas, et al., 2023; Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, 2023). This risk could be partially mitigated by using data analytics, to gain visibility over demand, and make data-driven decisions regarding allocation of marketing resources, pricing, procurement, etc…. However, this requires investments in technology, processes, and training that are oftentimes (financially) inaccessible to these small SMEs.Benefit for societyThe proposed study touches upon several key enabling technologies First, key enabling technology participation and co-creation lies at the center of this proposal. The premise is that regional hospitality SMEs can achieve more by combining their knowledge and resources. The proposed project therefore aims to give diverse stakeholders the means and opportunity to collaborate, learn from each other, and work together on a prototype collaboration.
