The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has funded a five years program to encourage the use, creation and sharing of Open Educational Resources (OER) by teachers from various types of education. This program is known as Wikiwijs. Ultimo 2013, the program has come to an end. As some of the assumptions at the start of Wikiwijs proved to work out in unexpected ways the lessons learned could fuel the next steps in developing Wikiwijs. Besides, other national initiatives on opening up education may also benefit from the lessons learned reported here. The main conclusion from five years Wikiwijs was that to accomplish mainstreaming OER, the Wikiwijs program should go along with other interventions that are more oriented toward prescriptive policies and regulations. In particular: the Dutch government should be more directive in persuading executive boards and teachers on schools to adopt OER as an important part of educational reform and the acquisition of 21st century skills.

Nederland zet koers richting een open vorm van wetenschapsbeoefening, getuige onder andere de lancering van het Nationaal Plan Open Science (NPOS) afgelopen februari en het nieuwe regeerakkoord dat stelt dat open access en open science de norm worden in wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Open science heeft als doel om wetenschappelijke kennis op transparante wijze en voor een breed publiek te publiceren. Dat vergt een herijking van onderzoek doen, samenwerking tussen onderzoekers en de wijze waarop kennis wordt gedeeld en de wetenschap wordt georganiseerd. Informatieprofessionals kunnen hierbij een rol van betekenis spelen, zoals blijkt uit cases van de Universiteit Utrecht, Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen en KNMI. In een city farm optimaliseren we alle factoren voor zover we dat met de huidige stand van techniek kunnen. Relatief goedkoop is het regelen van de temperatuur, de luchtvochtigheid en het CO2-gehalte. Relatief duur is het aanbieden van de meeste efficiënte lichtkleuren in de optimale mix voor de hoogste productie en de beste kwaliteit. In het algemeen werken we met blauw licht voor o.a. opening van de huidmondjes, rood licht als belangrijkste fotosynthesekleur en verrood licht voor het extra bevorderen van de foto-synthese en sturen van het plantmodel. Soms werken we met rode en witte LED-lampen, waarbij de witte lampen zorgen voor blauw en o.a. groen licht en het mogelijk maken de kleuren weer normaal te zien.
