A group of Dutch teachers, as part of their Master’s programme, developed a game that allows teachers to break free from their day-to-day affairs and reflect on futures by designing scenarios about the future of their school. In this game-based approach the journey of scenario exploration is composed of seven steps: (1) choice of a theme and timeframe, (2) selection of key dilemmas on which two scenario axes will be based, (3) understanding the content and context of a “matrix” provided for the game, (4) setting up scenario groups, (5) developing four scenarios, (6) sharing scenarios, and (7) reflection on the scenarios.

Binnen het projectonderwijs wordt nog vaak drooggezwommen. Enerzijds door de verstrekte projectopdrachten anderzijds door de suboptimalisatie van oplossingen. Deze zijn namelijk sterk afhankelijk van de verbonden modules en docenten. In de praktijk zijn de oplossingen echter altijd een afweging van tijd, geld en kwaliteit. Onze Human Engineers leren om daar op een goede manier mee om te gaan. Dit door de integratiemodule Integrated Product Development (IPD). IPD is een multidisciplinair project waarbij studenten van verschillende Fontys Instituten werken aan de commercikle en technische uitwerking van een bedrijfsopdracht. Marktonderzoek, doelgroep bepaling en productspecificatie zijn een vast onderdeel van een IPD project evenals het ontwerpen en bouwen van een prototype en het financieel onderbouwen van een Go/NO go advies aan de ondernemer. Het project vindt plaats in het laatste onderwijssemester, net vssr het afstuderen en is dus te zien als een open project met een bedrijf als opdrachtgever. De Human Engineering studenten zijn in deze projecten de verbindende schakel. De specialisten in de projectgroepen, de technische studenten, willen nogal eens zoeken naar mooie oplossingen vooral in technische zin. Daarbij gaan ze vaak volledig voorbij aan het belang van de ondernemer (winst maken) en het belang van de klant (kwaliteit en bedieningsgemak). Ook het projectwerk heeft een enorme sprong vooruit gemaakt door het team uit te breiden met Human Engineers. De Human Engineering studenten focussen vooral ook op het halen van targets (kosten) en deadlines (tijd), het maken en nakomen van afspraken en de communicatie binnen de groep en naar buiten toe (ondernemer en klant). Huidige studenten en alumni geven aan dat het project zeer realistisch is en dat het vergelijkbaar is met problemen die ze in hun werk tegen komen. Zeker blijven doen is hun advies. Organisatorisch vergt het wel een en ander omdat er bijvoorbeeld afstemming dient te komen tussen de verschillende instituten met betrekking tot: beoordeling van de studenten, afstemmen van lesroosters en vergoeding voor docenten. Ook het onderhouden van bedrijfsrelaties om bijvoorbeeld aan de opdrachten te komen blijft een moeilijke, tijdrovende zaak.

In dit rapport zijn vier scenario’s uitgewerkt. Elk van de scenario´s kan zich in de toekomst meer of minder ontvouwen. Deze vier scenario´s vormen de inspiratiepaden die elk verschillende kansen en belemmeringen in zich hebben en daarmee mogelijkheden voor de toekomst bieden. Per scenario wordt beschreven wat de essentiële verschillen per route zijn.

Background: Interprofessional collaboration in practice (IPCP) between professionals from the medical and social domain within primary care is desirable; however, it is also challenging due to fragmented healthcare. Little is known about the development of IPCP in primary care to fit the implementation context. is article describes the methodological development and the final content of an IPCP program. Methods and findings:e development process started with the identification of IPCP competencies in a literature review and a qualitative needs analysis with semi-structured interviews among eight elders and four healthcare professionals. e results were discussed during a first consultation with an expert team, which consisted of ten healthcare professionals. Consensus was reached on the themes role identity, communication, and shared vision development to form the basis of the program. A second consultation with the experts discussed the first version of the program. en, consensus was reached on the final version of the program, which included a blended learning approach consisting of two face-to-face meetings, online learning, and on-the-job learning with a sixteen-hour time investment over a six-week period. Conclusions: e IPCP program was developed based on educational strategies and evidence, and with the support and knowledge of practice experts to fit the implementation context.

By use of a literature review and an environmental scan four plausible future scenarios will be created, based on the research question: How could the future of backpack tourism look like in 2030, and how could tourism businesses anticipate on the changing demand. The scenarios, which allow one to ‘think out of the box’, will eventually be translated into recommendations towards the tourism sector and therefore can create a future proof company strategy.

In this paper, we analyse the development of the term “legal capabilities”. More specifically, we do three things. First, we track the emergence and development of the notion of legal capabilities. The term legal capabilities was used in legal research long before the capability approach was introduced in that field. Early on, its conceptualisation mainly reflected elements of legal literacy. In more recent writings, it is claimed that the notion is based on the capability approach. Second, we critically analyse the current use of the term legal capabilities and show that there is no proper theoretical grounding of this term in the capability approach. This is problematic, because it might give rise to misunderstandings and flawed policy recommendations. Third, we suggest some first steps towards a revision of the notion of legal capabilities. Starting from the concept of “access to justice”, legal capabilities have to be understood as the real opportunities someone has to get access to justice, rather than merely as formal opportunities or internal capabilities.

This research concerning the experience and future of zoos was carried out from 2011-2012 and takes regional ideas concerning Zoo Emmen as well as global visions into account. The research focuses partly on Zoo Emmen, its present attractions and visitors while also comparing and contrasting visions on the future in relationship to other international zoos in the world. In this way, remarkable experiences and ideas will be identified and in the light of them, it can serve as inspiration for stakeholders of zoos at large. The main research subject is a look at the future zoos in view of: The Zoo Experience – an international experience benchmark; The Zoo of the Future – a Scenario Planning approach towards the future; The virtual zoo - zoo’s in the internet domain.

Significant factors in the success or failure of energy transition arise from the spatial potential of places and their communities. Scenario planning appears to be an appropriate design instrument to enable architects to unveil, conceptualise, imagine, test and communicate this potential to stakeholders. This paper critically refelcts on the scenario as an architectural design instrument. Inscribed with political intentions, scenario planning may be a far from neutral design instrument. Instead of triggering communities to explore local energy potential, a scenario may have a normative effect on a community's imagination. The paper aims to define guidelines for the deployment of scenarios in an open, participatory planning process. To mediate in a local participatory planning process, we argue, scenarios should be situational, dynamic and open-ended, allowing or even triggering communities to (re)define the issues relevant to a place during the ongoing process of energy-transition. How, when and where should scenarios be deployed in order to enable communities to understand and develop their local energy potential?

Atherosclerosis is the development of lipid-laden plaques in arteries and is nowadays considered as an inflammatory disease. It has been shown that high doses of ionizing radiation, as used in radiotherapy, can increase the risk of development or progression of atherosclerosis. To elucidate the effects of radiation on atherosclerosis, we propose a mathematical model to describe radiation-promoted plaque evelopment. This model distinguishes itself from other models by combining plaque initiation and plaque growth, and by incorporating information from biological experiments. It is based on two consecutive processes: a probabilistic dose-dependent plaque initiation process, followed by deterministic plaque growth.

The general aim of this research project has been to examine this phenomenon of tourism flow switching and consider the factors driving the geopolitical instability that can compromise destination security. On a more practical level the research has also examined what the reactions of Dutch tourists are to security threats affecting their tourism decisions and looked at the development of preventive measures against attacks by destinations and travel organisations. Finally, the research on the regional geopolitics of the MENA and European areas have together with the attitudes of Dutch tourists towards destination security been used as inputs into a scenario planning process involving the steering group of tour operators who originally commissioned this research, as participants. This process has focussed on macro environmental analysis, identification of key uncertainties, and the development of resilient strategies for the future.
