Collaborative organizing for grand challenges 

The Collaborative Innovation and Entrepreneurship professorship focuses on the collaborative paradigm in economic transformation - the ways diverse organizations in globalvalue chains innovate and act in partnerships to address ecological and social grand challenges. Collaboration with multiple and diverse stakeholders is complex and challenging. Stakeholders have different interests, may compete with each other, or are just not ready to move as fast or as radically as others. Yet, we know that grand challenges are too complex and systemic for any one organization to address alone. Business leaders have an important role to play in transforming economic ecosystems and catalysing change among stakeholders and industry actors. They must move from linear thinking, where sustainability is a market for green or social products, to circular and inclusive thinking, where regeneration of natural ecosystems occurs and economic profits are equally distributed.The Collaborative Innovation and Entrepreneurship professorship aims to contribute knowledge, support organizations, and facilitate learning about collaborative organizational forms and practices - what we call collaborative organizing - for a more sustainable, regenerative and thriving 21st century economic system.

Het gemurmel van de artistieke menigte

Kunstsocioloog Pascal Gielen verdedigt de hypothese dat de geglobaliseerde kunstwereld een ideaal terrein voor economische uitbuiting is. In de roes van de creative cities en de creatieve industrie omarmen overheden dit postfordistische werkmodel en sluiten zo naadloos aan bij de mondiale, neoliberale markteconomie. Gielen diept deze situatie uit en wil tegelijkertijd nieuwe alternatieven aanreiken, die de kunstwereld nodig heeft om haar eigen dynamiek en vrijheid te bewaren. Zijn zoektocht leidt hem naar plaatsen van gedeelde intimiteit en ‘slowability’ temidden van de hectische, globale flow van artistieke ontwikkelingen en trends. Deze derde editie is geheel herzien en bijgewerkt met Gielens meest recente inzichten in de politieke dimensies van kunst, autonomie en de relatie tussen kunst, ethiek en democratie.

Remy Jungerman

A new book on the work of Suriname-born Dutch artist Remy Jungerman (1959, Moengo Suriname). In his work artist Remy Jungerman searches for an autonomous visual language that does justice to the cultures of the countries that define him: Suriname, the Netherlands and the United States.Remy Jungerman. Behind the Forest focuses on his artistic output of the past fifteen years, including new work created especially for his eponymous solo-exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.In his sculptures, panels, installations, collages and screen prints, Jungerman traces pathways of pattern and imagery from Maroon culture in Suriname, the African diaspora and 20th-Century modernism.The majority of this book comprises reproductions of his work that have not been published before. Behind the Forest is a welcome addition to Where the River Runs, published by Jap Sam Books in 2019.

De invloed van 75 jaar industrialisatie op wonen en werken in een Maastrichtse wijk

This article presents a social analysis and a spatial outline of this quarter. On the basis of two cross-sections it is possible to study the social and spatial effects of industrialisation on this neighbourhood. Petrus Regout founded glassworks and a pottery there in the 1830’s. The demographic pressure increased, the population rejuvenated, became more homogeneous (in occupations), was reduced to poverty (at least in housing) and was immobilized. The preindustrial labour market changes into an industrial one. The perspectives of employment at the Sphinx led to a crowding of people in increasingly miserable housing conditions. Further research into life-courses in context is needed to get answers to questions concerning generational (dis)continuity in culture of poverty
