Huidige inburgeringscursussen zijn meestal gericht op taal en kennis en houden geen rekening met de complexe inspanningen die migranten moeten leveren om een nieuw bestaan op te bouwen in een vreemde samenleving. Sinds 2002 onderzoekt en ontwikkel ik samen met Vantrood Educational Services methoden voor psychosociale volwassenenonderwijs, toegespitst op een dubbele context benadering: de ontvangende samenleving, evenals de volwassen lerende migrant. In dit Position paper beschrijven we de theoretisch gefundeerde principes van deze effectieve pedagogische aanpak en bespreken we veronderstellingen van volwassenenonderwijs en inburgering om hiermee een constructieve bijdrage te leveren aan de doorontwikkeling van inburgeringscursussen.

Nowadays companies need higher educated engineers to develop their competences to enable them to innovate. This innovation competence is seen as a remedy for the minor profitable business they do during the financial crises. Innovation is an element to be developed on the one hand for big companies as well as for small-and-medium sized companies through Europe to overcome this crisis. The higher education can be seen as an institution where youngsters, coming from secondary schools, who choose to learn at higher education to realize their dream, what they like to become in the professional world. The tasks of the Universities of applied Sciences are to prepare these youngsters to become starting engineers doing their job well in the companies. Companies work for a market, trying to manufacture products which customers are willing to pay for. They ask competent employees helping achieving this goal. It is important these companies inform the Universities of applied Sciences in order to modify their educational program in such a way that the graduated engineers are learning the latest knowledge and techniques, which they need to know doing their job well. The Universities of applied Sciences of Oulu (Finland) and Fontys Eindhoven (The Netherlands) are working together to experience possibilities to qualify their students on innovation development in an international setting. In the socalled: ‘Invention Project’, students are motivated to find their own invention, to design it, to prepare this idea for prototyping and to really manufacture it. Organizing the project, special attention is given to communication protocol between students and also between teachers. Students have meetings on Thursday every week through Internet connection with the communication program OPTIMA, which is provided by the Oulu University. Not only the time difference between Finland and the Netherlands is an issue to be organized also effective protocols how to provide each other relevant information and also how to make in an effective way decisions are issues. In the paper the writers will present opinions of students, teachers and also companies in both regions of Oulu and Eindhoven on the effectiveness of this project reaching the goal students get more experienced to set up innovative projects in an international setting. The writers think this is an important and needed competence for nowadays young engineers to be able to create lucrative inventions for companies where they are going to work for. In the paper the writers also present the experiences of the supervising conditions during the project. The information found will lead to successfactors and do’s and don’ts for future projects with international collaboration.
The recent bank collapses and bailouts highlight the fragility of the banking system and our bank deposits. The digital euro is an opportunity to reconfigure our monetary system to serve the interests of people and society, by making money safer and more inclusive. However, the European Central Bank’s (ECB) current proposal for a digital euro falls short of this potential. The current plan relies heavily on private financial intermediaries and envisions putting important limitations on the use of digital euros, thereby impacting its capacity to be a universally accessible public good and risking undermining the uptake of the digital euro. By heeding to the bank lobby and baking their interests into the design of the digital euro, the ECB is missing an opportunity to develop an appealing and public digital alternative to private bank deposits. The digital euro must be developed with the aim of benefiting people and society over private interests, and these considerations should guide its design. In the short term, the digital euro should: 1. Be universally accessible. People should be able to access digital euros through a diverse range of intermediaries, which include non-profit and public entities. Implementing a tiered identification system for account-based digital euros, and introducing a value-based option, would ensure the availability of digital euros to the most vulnerable segments of society. 2. Be free of cost for users. Any future legislative framework on the digital euro should include a list of basic services that should be provided for free to users, such as opening and managing an account and the provision of a payment instrument (e.g. a card). 3. Offer a high level of privacy and data protection. Cash, which is fully anonymous, should be used as the baseline when developing the digital euro. A value-based option should be introduced alongside an account-based one, and it should be designed to be fully anonymous. For the account-based option, a ‘privacy threshold’ can ensure that users’ data for small transactions is protected. 4. Have a clear European Central Bank branding. Clear branding will help to differentiate public digital euros from private bank deposits. 5. Bring resilience to the payment system. By providing an offline value-based option, and by ensuring that the digital euro’s legal and technical core infrastructure is public and works independently of any private system, we can offer an alternative to existing payment rails and increase resiliency in case of outages. The digital euro is also an opportunity to improve financial stability by transforming the banking system, and helping central banks to more effectively carry out their monetary policy. The design of the digital euro should be flexible enough to allow for the achievement of these longterm goals, and more research should be conducted to explore how different features could help achieve them. For instance, a digital euro without any holding limit could reduce moral hazard in the banking sector, and the adjustment of interest rates on digital euro deposits and direct monetary transfers could improve the transmission of monetary policy.
Het onderzoek gaat over hoe verschillende maatschappelijke organisaties in Nederland zich verhouden tot de problemen die artificiële intelligentie (AI) met zich meebrengt. Daarbij kan je denken aan toegang tot het recht en discriminatie.Doel Het doel is te reconstrueren wat de positie is van maatschappelijke organisaties in Nederland ten aanzien van AI. Maatschappelijke organisaties spelen een belangrijke rol bij het vorm geven aan tegenmacht. Resultaten Verschillende clusters van tegenmacht in de context van AI zijn geïdentificeerd. Namelijk verzet & protest, meebewegen, meedenken & bijsturen en confronteren & controleren. Verder worden de ontwikkelingen beschreven die bijdragen aan de wijze waarop tegenmacht vorm krijgt. Looptijd 01 april 2020 - 28 oktober 2021 Aanpak Het working paper biedt een overzicht van de stand van zaken van tegenmacht. Dat is gebaseerd op kwalitatief onderzoek. Daarnaast zijn open interviews afgenomen met 19 maatschappelijke organisaties en achtergrondgesprekken met 9 wetenschappers en 4 kunstenaars.
Due to the existing pressure for a more rational use of the water, many public managers and industries have to re-think/adapt their processes towards a more circular approach. Such pressure is even more critical in the Rio Doce region, Minas Gerais, due to the large environmental accident occurred in 2015. Cenibra (pulp mill) is an example of such industries due to the fact that it is situated in the river basin and that it has a water demanding process. The current proposal is meant as an academic and engineering study to propose possible solutions to decrease the total water consumption of the mill and, thus, decrease the total stress on the Rio Doce basin. The work will be divided in three working packages, namely: (i) evaluation (modelling) of the mill process and water balance (ii) application and operation of a pilot scale wastewater treatment plant (iii) analysis of the impacts caused by the improvement of the process. The second work package will also be conducted (in parallel) with a lab scale setup in The Netherlands to allow fast adjustments and broaden evaluation of the setup/process performance. The actions will focus on reducing the mill total water consumption in 20%.
Tijdens de COVID-19 crisis heeft een aantal MKB-winkeliers zonder webwinkel op succesvolle wijze winkelbeleving op afstand toegepast. Met behulp van digitale technologieën werden klanten hierbij, ongeacht hun locatie, bij de fysieke winkel betrokken en in staat gesteld elementen van deze omgeving te beleven. Dit zou, gezien de verwachte toegenomen behoefte van klanten aan winkelen zonder fysiek in de winkel te zijn, het onderscheidend vermogen en de concurrentiepositie van de MKB-winkelier kunnen versterken. Vooralsnog ontbreekt echter toegepaste kennis van de manieren waarop winkelbeleving op afstand effectief toegepast kan worden. Drie MKB-winkeliers, namelijk DroomHout, Chase Concept Store en MeubelBaas, hebben ons consortium verzocht deze kennis te verstrekken. Dit verkennende onderzoek beoogt dergelijke kennis te creëren door het beantwoorden van deze onderzoeksvragen: • Wat zijn geschikte manieren om winkelbeleving op afstand toe te passen? • Wat zijn de (beoogde) effecten van deze toepassingen voor MKB-winkeliers, hun personeel en klanten? • Welke succes- en faalfactoren beïnvloeden deze effecten? • Welke stappen kunnen MKB-winkeliers gegeven deze succes- en faalfactoren zetten ten einde winkelbeleving op afstand effectief toe te passen? Het Centre for Market Insights van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam, TMO Fashion Business School en het lectoraat Regio Ontwikkeling van Saxion zullen dit project in samenwerking met de drie winkeliers uitvoeren. Hiertoe zullen een literatuuronderzoek, interviews, observaties, een survey en experimenten worden gedaan. Dit onderzoek biedt niet alleen waardevolle inzichten voor de retailsector, maar is ook een eerste stap in het opzetten van een langduriger onderzoeksprogramma. Het project zal resulteren in een rapportage over de effectieve toepassing van winkelbeleving op afstand, consortiumbijeenkomsten over de resultaten, een stappenplan voor winkeliers, twee vakpublicaties, een academisch working paper, bijeenkomsten om het consortium uit te breiden, een eindpresentatie aan het consortium en geïnteresseerden, en een RAAK-mkb opzet.
