H.J. (Hans) Quak Ph.D. is ‘lector’ (professor of applied sciences) @ BUas (Breda University of Applied Sciences) Smart Cities and Logistics.
The professorship Smart Cities and Logistics focusses on:
1) The transition towards zero-emissions city logistics
2) Innovations in last-mile deliveries
3) Spatial planning and city logistics
Hans especially focuses on logistics in urban areas (and currently leading the SIA SPRONG group LILS - Low Impact Lastmile logisticS), sustainable transport, innovations in logistics, sustainable logistics, the impacts of automation on transport and logistics as well as opportunities due to self-organising logistics. Hans has been working at the Dutch research institute TNO from 2007 to 2025, as (senior) research scientist in the Sustainable Transport and Logistics group.
Hans was / is involved in several (inter)national projects on city logistics, projects on urban freight transport and the electrification of urban freight transport vehicles, sustainable logistics and the influences of external or disruptive factors on the logistics organisation in companies. He (co)authored several reports, papers and book chapters on freight transport, logistics and (local) policy in these areas.
