The labour market for experience experts is growing. They work at client organisations and with increasing frequency at mental health care facilities as well.
At training institutes, experience experts are more and more often asked to come and lecture. This requires training and curricula for experience experts so that they can properly serve their function as experience experts.
The authors describe the courses of study developed in the Netherlands, particularly at the junior college and college level. The aims of the courses of study and the curricula are discussed. Attention is also devoted to a European programme that has been implemented in the field, Ex-In. Lastly, the authors focus on the impact of this development on the mental health care field and on the courses of study for professionals.
