It is assumed by the projects demonstrating Positive Energy District (PED) concepts in cities across Europe that citizens should want and need to be involved in the development of new energy concepts, such as PEDs for these concepts to be deployed successfully. Six different PED research and innovation projects are investigating the types and expectations of citizen engagement. They evaluate the impact of energy citizenship on the success of PED deployment across Europe.
A common strategy to assign keywords to documents is to select the most appropriate words from the document text. One of the most important criteria for a word to be selected as keyword is its relevance for the text. The tf.idf score of a term is a widely used relevance measure. While easy to compute and giving quite satisfactory results, this measure does not take (semantic) relations between words into account.
In het kunsten- en erfgoeddecreet werd een aparte categorie ‘Instellingen van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap’ opgenomen. Zij zouden een symboolfunctie en een sensibiliserende rol voor de artistieke gemeenschap en de gehele Vlaamse bevolking moeten vervullen. Bovendien moeten ze internationale topkwaliteit aanbieden. Door een gebrekkige collectieve opdrachtomschrijving weten deze Gemeenschapsinstellingen echter niet welke service van hen wordt verwacht en dit zowel naar de artistieke gemeenschap als de bredere samenleving toe. De vage taakomschrijving stelt de instellingen met dit uitzonderlijke statuut bovendien voor een distinctieprobleem. Waarin onderscheiden ze zich van andere kunstorganisaties in Vlaanderen die op een reguliere basis tijdelijk worden gesubsidieerd? Ten slotte signaleren de Gemeenschapsinstellingen een internationaal verifieerbare discrepantie tussen een symbolische en een economische, subsidiale erkenning. Door dit alles blijft hun positie vaag tot zelfs ambivalent. Met deze vaststellingen in het achterhoofd werd een essayopdracht geformuleerd. De centrale vragen die daarin gesteld werden luiden: wat is de opdracht, taak en positie van nationale kunstinstellingen? Hoe kunnen ze ideaaltypisch functioneren en hoe doen ze dat in het buitenland? Via een interpretatieve cultuursociologische weg, geschraagd met de inzichten van de kritische theorie werd een antwoord op het voorgelegde vraagstuk gezocht. Het opstel betreft dus geen benchmarking of kunstkritisch betoog. Wel werd via diepte-interviews met beleidsverantwoordelijken en vooral stafmedewerkers van voorbeeldorganisaties in Duitsland, Engeland, Finland, Nederland en Portugal naar mogelijke pistes gekeken.
In 2021, Citython editions were held for the European cities of Eindhoven (Netherlands), Bilbao and Barcelona (Spain), Hamburg (Germany), and Lublin (Poland). Within this project, BUAS contributed to the organization of CITYTHON Eindhoven in cooperation with CARNET (an initiative by CIT UPC) and City of Eindhoven – an event which gives young talent the opportunity to work with mentors and experts for the development of innovative urban solutions. Participants of CITYTHON Eindhoven worked on three challenges:- Traffic safety in school zones - Travel to the campus- Make the city healthy The event took place between 18 May and 2 June 2021 with various experts, for example from ASML, City of Eindhoven and University of Amsterdam, giving inspirational talks and mentoring students throughout the ideation and solutions development process. The teams presented their solutions during the Dutch Technology Week and the winners were announced by Monique List-de Roos (Alderman Mobility and Transport, City of Eindhoven) on 2 June 2021. The role of BUAS within this project was to assist City of Eindhoven with the development of the challenges to be tackled by the participating teams, and find relevant speakers and mentors who would be supporting the students for the development of their solutions and jury members who would determine the winning teams. The project ended with a round table “Green and Safe Mobility for all: 5 Smart City(thon) Case studies” on November 17 organized as part of Smart City Expo World Congress 2021 in Barcelona.
