Generation Z (Gen Z) will account for a growing proportion of the global workforce in the coming years. Therefore, it is vitally important to understand this generation’s unique perspectives and preferences regarding work. This exploratory study examines the prioritisation and desirability of Gen Z work values according to respondents’ nationality. Data for this study was collected through a survey among 1188 undergraduate students enrolled in one university each in China, Germany, the Netherlands and Thailand. ANOVA test and Tukey post-hoc analysis were used to find out the difference between the groups based on nationality. Findings indicate nationality serves as a key differentiator in work value preferences. The findings challenge the concept of a global Generation Z as only two of the measured values, learning and visible results, were found to have universal appeal across the nationality groups. Despite increased levels of global interconnectedness and accompanying crossvergence of values, the results show significant statistical differences in work values based on the respondents’ nationality. Due to the scope and explorative design of the present study, it cannot be certain that the findings are exclusively from Gen Z characteristics or influenced by other, non-cultural, variables. This study suggests there is a need for study programmes at a tertiary level to embed experiential learning components and individual study pathways in their curricula to enable students to develop realistic expectations about the workplace and their place in it. In turn, these programmes will be able to develop a competitive advantage in HE landscape. The insights gained can be leveraged by internationally oriented study programmes, such as International Business (IB), to better address Gen Z needs and expectations.

The HAS professorship Future Food Systems is performing applied research with students and external partners to transform our food system towards a more sustainable state. In this research it is not only a question of what is needed to achieve this, but also how and with whom. The governance of our food system needs rethinking to get the transformative momentum going in a democratic and constructive manner. Building on the professorship’s research agenda and involvement in the transdisciplinary NWA research project, the postdoc will explore collective ownership and inclusive participation as two key governance concepts for food system transformation. This will be done in a participatory manner, by learning from and with innovative bottom-up initiatives and practitioners from the field. By doing so, the postdoc will gain valuable practical insights that can aid to new approaches and (policy) interventions which foster a sustainable and just food system in the Netherlands and beyond. A strong connection between research and education is created via the active research involvement of students from different study programs, supervised by the postdoc (Dr. B. van Helvoirt). The acquired knowledge is embedded in education by the postdoc by incorporating it into HAS study program curricula and courses. In addition, it will contribute to the further professional development of qualitative research skills among HAS students and staff. Through scientific, policy and popular publications, participation in (inter)national conferences and meetings with experts and practitioners, the exposure and network of the postdoc and HAS in the field of food systems and governance will be expanded. This will allow for the setting up of a continuous research effort on this topic within the professorship via follow-up research with knowledge institutes, civic society groups and partners from the professional field.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the use of eHealth tools became increasingly demanded by patients and encouraged by the Dutch government. Yet, HBO health professionals demand clarity on what they can do, must do, and cannot do with the patients’ data when using digital healthcare provision and support. They often perceive the EU GDPR and its national application as obstacles to the use of eHealth due to strict health data processing requirements. They highlight the difficulty of keeping up with the changing rules and understanding how to apply them. Dutch initiatives to clarify the eHealth rules include the 2021 proposal of the wet Elektronische Gegevensuitwisseling in de Zorg and the establishment of eHealth information and communication platforms for healthcare practitioners. The research explores whether these initiatives serve the needs of HBO health professionals. The following questions will be explored: - Do the currently applicable rules and the proposed wet Elektronische Gegevensuitwisseling in de Zorg clarify what HBO health practitioners can do, must do, and cannot do with patients’ data? - Does the proposed wet Elektronische Gegevensuitwisseling in de Zorg provide better clarity on the stakeholders who may access patients’ data? Does it ensure appropriate safeguards against the unauthorized use of such data? - Does the proposed wet Elektronische Gegevensuitwisseling in de Zorg clarify the EU GDPR requirements for HBO health professionals? - Do the eHealth information and communication platforms set up for healthcare professionals provide the information that HBO professionals need on data protection and privacy requirements stemming from the EU GDPR and from national law? How could such platforms be better adjusted to the HBO professionals’ information and communication needs? Methodology: Practice-oriented legal research, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted. Results will be translated to solutions for HBO health professionals.

Hierbij speelt de combinatie van beroepsonderwijs en -opleiding en werkgebaseerde leerinitiatieven een rol om snelle bijscholing en omscholing te implementeren. De nieuwe strategie en onderwijsoplossing houden rechtstreeks verband met erkende Europese instrumenten, en normen die vaardigheden en loopbaanontwikkeling in het algemeen mogelijk maken. Bovendien zullen nieuwe mechanismen hierin worden opgenomen, voor een duurzame implementatie in de verschillende programmalanden. Hierbij zijn de belangrijkste resultaten van dit werkpakket: modulaire opleidingsprogramma's om de nieuwe curricula voor beroepsonderwijs en -opleidingen te implementeren, die elk bestaan uit een reeks modules die samen de geformuleerde leerdoelen omvatten; proefprogramma's voor beroepsonderwijs en -opleidingen opzetten en uitvoeren voor verschillende doelgroepen in 7 EU-partnerlanden, de doeltreffendheid meten, feedback verzamelen en de opleidingsprogramma's herhalen en verbeteren; werkplek leren opnemen in de nieuwe opleidingsprogramma's met mogelijkheden om kennis toe te passen in praktische situaties die verband houden met elke rol en waar mogelijk transnationale leerervaring opnemen; een Train-the-Trainer-programma ontwikkelen om de bijscholing van docenten te vergemakkelijken waarbij zij de kennis, het vertrouwen en de hulpmiddelen verkrijgen om de training volgens de hoogste kwaliteitsnormen te geven. Relevantie beroepspraktijk ESSA heeft tot doel een innovatief en uitgebreid onderwijscurriculum te ontwikkelen dat is aangepast aan verschillende rol- en functieprofielen en onderliggende competenties, kennis en vaardigheden van de sector. Stap 1: Een analyse van de markt- en bedrijfsbehoeften worden uitgevoerd om een gefundeerde basis te leggen voor de ontwikkeling en implementatie van zowel de Software Skills Strategie als de onderwijsprogramma's.
