Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) is effective for trauma-related nightmares and is also a challenge to patients in finding access to their traumatic memories, because these are saved in non-verbal, visual, or audiovisual language. Art therapy (AT) is an experiential treatment that addresses images rather than words. This study investigates the possibility of an IRT-AT combination. Systematic literature review and field research was conducted, and the integration of theoretical and practice-based knowledge resulted in a framework for Imagery Rehearsal-based Art Therapy (IR-AT). The added value of AT in IRT appears to be more readily gaining access to traumatic experiences, living through feelings, and breaking through avoidance. Exposure and re-scripting take place more indirectly, experientially and sometimes in a playlike manner using art assignments and materials. In the artwork, imagination, play and fantasy offer creative space to stop the vicious circle of nightmares by changing theme, story line, ending, or any part of the dream into a more positive and acceptable one. IR-AT emerges as a promising method for treatment, and could be especially useful for patients who benefit least from verbal exposure techniques. This description of IR-AT offers a base for further research.

Deze publicatie richt zich vooral op het concept Design Based Research,gezien vanuit het perspectief van de bijna 40 lectoren die de hogeschool rijk is. Dit lectoratenoverzicht kan worden beschouwd als een atlas of reisgids waarmee de lezer een route kan afleggen langs de verschillende lectoraten. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van de Service Economy worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 2. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van Vitale Regio worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 3. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van Smart Sustainable Industries worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 4. De lectoraten die actief zijn op het gebied van de hogeschoolbrede thema’s Design Based Education en Research worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 5. Tenslotte wordt er in hoofdstuk 6 een eerste aanzet gedaan om één of meer verbindende thema’s of werkwijzen te ontdekken in de aanpak van de verschillende lectoraten. Het is niet de bedoeling van deze publicatie om een definitief antwoord te geven op de vraag wat NHL Stenden precies bedoelt met het concept Design Based Research. Het doel van deze publicatie is wel om een indruk te krijgen van wat er allemaal gebeurt binnnen de lectoraten van NHL Stenden, en om nieuwsgierig te worden naar meer.

Verandering en innovatie zijn een zaak van lange adem. Ook bij praktijkgericht onderzoek in het sociaal domein vergt de introductie van nieuwe manieren van werken vaak geduld en tijd. In ons dagelijks werk ervaren wij dat bestaande perspectieven op onderzoek nog beperkt ruimte bieden aan de mogelijkheden die de kunsten kunnen creëren. Tegelijkertijd is er in de Angelsaksische literatuur een “nieuwe loot” aan de (praktijkgerichte) onderzoekstam ontsproten: ‘Arts-Based Research (ABR)’. Volgens ons krijgt ABR als praktijkgericht onderzoek nog niet de aandacht die het verdient. In Nederlandstalige rapportages en literatuur over praktijkgericht onderzoek vinden we er weinig over terug. Binnen het onderwijs en de beroepspraktijk in het brede sociaal domein bestaat er echter wel een lange traditie van het werken met kunst en creativiteit. Het gaat dan bijvoorbeeld om creatief agogisch werken, projecten en activiteiten gericht op sociaal-culturele participatie of kunst- en cultuureducatie in school of wijk. Het is zaak het praktijkgericht onderzoek hierop aan te sluiten, met als inzet het opleiden tot de onderzoekende creatieve sociale professional van de 21e eeuw. Dat is een professional met onderzoekend vermogen (Greve, Munneke & Andriessen, 2015) die steeds weer doet wat nodig is in de specifieke context. Door de inzet van Arts-Based Research bij sociale vraagstukken wordt onzes inziens een nieuw perspectief toegevoegd dat andere mogelijkheden creëert om een bijdrage te leveren aan verandering in de complexe praktijk van het brede sociaal domein

Boek te leen bij de HU Bibliotheek Arts-Based Research betekent letterlijk: op kunsten gebaseerd onderzoek. Praktijkgericht Arts-Based Research levert een bijdrage aan het oplossen van concrete vraagstukken in de dagelijkse beroepspraktijk. Juist in het sociaal domein heeft het toegevoegde waarde dit type onderzoek in te zetten omdat deze benadering de ruimte biedt de praktijk in het sociaal domein vanuit een ander perspectief te bekijken en te komen tot activering, ondersteuning, verbinding en participatie. In Arts-Based Research voor het sociaal domein komen verschillende kunstvormen aan bod. De auteurs laten zien hoe die gebruikt kunnen worden in innovatief praktijkgericht onderzoek in alle fasen van een onderzoeksproject. De uitgave begint met een introductie van Arts-Based Research. Daarin wordt onder andere ingegaan op vraagstukken in het sociaal domein die zich goed lenen voor het werken met kunst in onderzoek. In het kerngedeelte wordt ingegaan op zes varianten van Arts-Based Research, gekoppeld aan even zo veel kunstvormen: verhalen, muziek, theater, dans, beeldende kunst en audiovisuele media.

In de recensie worden systematisch de verschillende onderdelen van het boek besproken. De door ons aangedragen structuur wordt gevolgd. Via de uitgangspunten van praktijkgericht onderzoek, de kenmerken van ABR en de kwaliteitscriteria zoals door ons geformuleerd, komen vervolgens de verschillende disciplines aan bod en wordt het afsluitende hoofdstuk kort beschreven. Door de gekozen schrijfstructuur wordt onze opbouw mooi voor het voetlicht gebracht. Alhoewel we op onderdelen gekozen zouden hebben voor andere accenten, wordt zo een herkenbaar verhaal gepresenteerd. Wel is het jammer dat we voor de recensent onvoldoende duidelijk hebben kunnen maken waarom we het zo belangrijk vinden dat er meer ruimte komt voor ABR in het sociaal domein

Chapter 2 centres on the professorships that are active in the field of Service Economy. Chapter 3 is dedicated to the professorships that are focussed on the field of Vital Region. Chapter 4 describes the professorships operating in the field of Smart Sustainable Industries. Chapter 5 deals with the professorships that are active in the field of the institution-wide themes of Design Based Education and Design Based Research. Lastly, in Chapter 6 we make an attempt to discover one or more connecting themes or procedures in the approach of the various professorships. This publication is not intended to give a definitive answer to the question as to what exactly NHL Stenden means by the concept of Design Based Research. The aim of this publication is to get an idea of everything that is happening in the NHL Stenden professorships and to pique one’s curiosity to find out more.

In November 2017, 'Artistic Research in the North' presented the exhibition 'Dwell, Act, Transform' and the symposium 'Thought Things'. Researchers from Minerva Art Academy and the University of Groningen, together with international guests like Tim Ingold, approached artistic research as a form of research that interacts with the social, material and academic environments in which it occurs. Based on their shared perspectives, researchers collaborated across the boundaries of disciplines and institutions, searching for new research methods and ways of working.Artistic Research in the North is a coproduction of the Research Centre Art & Society (Minerva Art Academy, Hanze University of Applied Sciences) and the Department History of Art + Architecture (University of Groningen). This book offers a comprehensive, practice-based exploration of Systemic Co-Design (SCD) as it is applied to society’s most complex and urgent transitions. Drawing on collaborative projects from the Expertisenetwork Systemic Co-Design (ESC), it portrays Systemic Co-Design not as a fixed framework but as a reflexive, evolving practice. The chapters present diverse collaborations and inquiries, ranging from inclusive design and digital accessibility to fostering safety cultures and urban co-creation, that illustrate Systemic Co-Design’s capacity to build awareness, trust, and communities, as well as systemic capabilities. The book promotes mutual learning and generates knowledge products such as maps, canvases, cards, games, and embodied interactions that enable meaningful engagement. Key themes that run throughout include continuous reflection, the blending of action research and design experimentation, and collective sense-making across disciplines. The contributions demonstrate how new values, methods, and communities are co-developed with design practitioners, policymakers, educators, and citizens. Together, they demonstrate how Systemic Co-Design achieves practical outcomes while fostering the longterm capacities and cultural shifts necessary for systemic change.

Het project onderzoekt alternatieve manieren om het landschap te ervaren, en onderzoekt en ontwikkelt nieuwe methoden en hulpmiddelen voor biodiversiteitsonderzoek. Sense Ecology ontwerpt en ondersteund projecten die zich richten op zintuigelijke waarneming van de natuurlijke omgeving.

To elucidate how authoritative knowledge is established for better dealing with unstructured urban problems, this article describes how collaborations between researchers and officials become an instrument for conceptualizing and addressing policy problems. A case study is used to describe a research consortium evaluating the controversial practice of ‘Lifestyle’ based housing allocation in the Dutch domain of social-housing. Analyzing this case in key episodes, we see researchers and policymakers selectively draw on established institutional practices—their so called ‘home practices’—to jointly (re-)structure problems. In addition, we find that restructuring problems is not only intertwined with, but also deliberately aimed at (re-)structuring the relations within and between the governmental practices, the actors are embedded in. It is by selectively tinkering with knowledges, values, norms, and criteria that the actors can deliberately enable and constrain the ways a real-world problem is addressed.
