The Vulkan real estate site in Oslo is owned by Aspelin Ramm, and includes one of the largest parking garages used for EV charging in Europe. EV charging (both AC and DC) is managed for now predominately for costs reasons but also with relevance at further EV penetration level in this car parking location (mixed EV and ICE vehicles). This neighbourhood scale SEEV4-City operational pilot (OP) has 50 22 kW flexible AC chargers with two sockets each and two DC chargers of 50 kW with both ChaDeMo and CCS outlets. All EV chargers now have a smart control (SC) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality (though the latter may not be in place fully for DC chargers, as they may not be fully connected to the remote back-office system of the EV charging systems operator). A Lithium-ion Battery Energy Stationary Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 50 kWh is pre-programmed to reduce the energy power peaks of the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and charges at other times from the central grid (which has a generation mix of 98% from hydro-electric power, and in the region covering Oslo also 1% from wind). The inverter used in the BESS is rated at 50 kW, and is also controlled to perform phase balancing of the 3-phase supply system.
This research explores the attitudes of children from different socio-economic backgrounds towards cars. This paper explores their projected choices and motivations in the context of (1) post-materialist values; (2) economic constraints; and (3) social status theories; and draws upon survey research among 140 upper elementary school children in the Netherlands between September 2010 and January 2011. Comparative analysis shows that there are significant differences in attitudes of children from different socio-economic backgrounds. Pupils from the affluent predominantly ethnically Dutch schools showed greater awareness of and concern about their parents’ and general use of cars, and less desire to own a car in the future, children from less economically advantaged schools demonstrated lower environmental awareness and concern and more desire to own a car in the future. When considering which is faster, a pedestrian or a car, we often overlook many aspects in our reasoning. For a car to be successful, thousands of kilometers of asphalt, sewers, filling and charging stations must be built and maintained, right across the (ecological) landscape and so on. We tend to focus on only one aspect, such as speed (cars are faster than walking or cycling), emissions (cars are polluting, particulate matter, CO2), energy, (material) costs, accident risk, convenience, etc. Rarely we can zoom out to see the whole picture, so think integrally. It is argued that to achieve a sustainable world, we should think more integrally (IDG2)!

Veel ouderen ervaren tijdens en na ziekenhuisopname functieverlies. ‘Function Focused Care in Hospital’, ook wel bekend als bewegingsgerichte zorg, is een interventie gericht op het voorkomen en verminderen van functieverlies bij ouderen tijdens een ziekenhuisopname. Verpleegkundigen moedigen patiënten aan tot actieve betrokkenheid in de dagelijkse zorgmomenten.Doel Doel van dit project is de effectiviteit bepalen van Function Focused Care in Hospital op het fysiek functioneren van patiënten die opgenomen zijn in de Nederlandse ziekenhuizen. Resultaten Nederlandstalig scholingsprogramma en handboek van de Function Focused Care in Hospital-benadering voor de ziekenhuissetting; Een evaluatie van het proces en de uitkomsten van de Function Focused Care-benadering. Looptijd 01 november 2020 - 31 oktober 2025 Aanpak Er is een haalbaarheidsstudie uitgevoerd, die uitwees dat de interventie geschikt is voor de Nederlandse praktijk. Op de neurologische en geriatrische afdelingen van drie ziekenhuizen is Function Focused Care in Hospital in de dagelijkse zorg geïmplementeerd en geëvalueerd op effectiviteit. Over de interventie Function Focused Care (FFC) is een zorgbenadering waarin verpleegkundigen patiënten actief betrekken bij alle zorgmomenten om hun fysiek functioneren te optimaliseren. Eerder onderzoek heeft laten zien dat FFC een positief effect heeft op fysieke activiteit, mobiliteit en ADL bij ouderen in de wijk en de langdurige zorg. Ook laten studies in de acute zorg belovende resultaten zien van FFC op fysieke activiteit en mobiliteit bij ouderen opgenomen in het ziekenhuis. Voorbeelden van zorg volgens de FFC-benadering zijn met de patiënt naar de badkamer lopen in plaats van wassen op bed, of de maaltijd aan tafel nuttigen in plaats van zittend in bed eten. De essentie van FFC is het behouden of, indien mogelijk, verbeteren van het fysieke functioneren. Tijdens de hele ziekenhuisopname wordt de patiënt aangemoedigd meer tijd te laten besteden aan fysieke activiteit op een op de patiënt aangepast niveau. Carboxylated cellulose is an important product on the market, and one of the most well-known examples is carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). However, CMC is prepared by modification of cellulose with the extremely hazardous compound monochloracetic acid. In this project, we want to make a carboxylated cellulose that is a functional equivalent for CMC using a greener process with renewable raw materials derived from levulinic acid. Processes to achieve cellulose with a low and a high carboxylation degree will be designed.
Due to societal developments, like the introduction of the ‘civil society’, policy stimulating longer living at home and the separation of housing and care, the housing situation of older citizens is a relevant and pressing issue for housing-, governance- and care organizations. The current situation of living with care already benefits from technological advancement. The wide application of technology especially in care homes brings the emergence of a new source of information that becomes invaluable in order to understand how the smart urban environment affects the health of older people. The goal of this proposal is to develop an approach for designing smart neighborhoods, in order to assist and engage older adults living there. This approach will be applied to a neighborhood in Aalst-Waalre which will be developed into a living lab. The research will involve: (1) Insight into social-spatial factors underlying a smart neighborhood; (2) Identifying governance and organizational context; (3) Identifying needs and preferences of the (future) inhabitant; (4) Matching needs & preferences to potential socio-techno-spatial solutions. A mixed methods approach fusing quantitative and qualitative methods towards understanding the impacts of smart environment will be investigated. After 12 months, employing several concepts of urban computing, such as pattern recognition and predictive modelling , using the focus groups from the different organizations as well as primary end-users, and exploring how physiological data can be embedded in data-driven strategies for the enhancement of active ageing in this neighborhood will result in design solutions and strategies for a more care-friendly neighborhood.
