The purpose of this research is to discover what interdependencies can be identified between business model elements. After a literature analysis, two case studies in the media industry are presented. From the literature analysis a new categorization in three types of business models is identified: calculative, descriptive and dynamic models. The results of the case studies suggest that in particular the key partners provide an important contribution to the value proposition, in the sense that they co-create the media concept. Based on these results a first sketch of a new business model frame workis proposed.

Concept cartoons (Naylor & Keogh, 1999, 2012; Naylor et al., 2007) worden vaak gebruikt om leerlingdenkbeelden te diagnosticeren en leerlingen aan het redeneren te krijgen met begrippen. Concept cartoons kunnen leerlingen ook aanzetten tot het bedenken van experimenten om het verschijnsel in de cartoon nader te onderzoeken en vervolgens de resultaten te gebruiken bij redeneren over dat verschijnsel. In zes lessen met drie concept cartoons onderzochten we in hoeverre basisschoolleerlingen zonder eerdere ervaring met praktisch werk in de wetenschap- en technieklessen in staat zijn experimenten te bedenken waarbij zij de resultaten gebruiken om hun argumenten te onderbouwen. Welke problemen doen zich daarbij voor? Het onderzoek werd uitgevoerd in een klas met 29 leerlingen van groep 7 in Amsterdam. Het onderwijsproces en de opbrengst werden gedocumenteerd door middel van video- en audio-opnames, observatieverslagen, individuele werkbladen en groepswerkbladen van de leerlingen. Het kost de leerlingen weinig moeite om experimenten te bedenken om het verschijnsel in de cartoon nader te onderzoeken, maar de onderzoeksvaardigheden die leerlingen daarbij nodig hebben ontbreken in meer of mindere mate. Bij de uitvoering worden de oorspronkelijke onderzoeksvraag van de kinderen zelf en het oorspronkelijke ontwerp van het experiment nogal eens vergeten, en leveren de experimenten andere kennis op dan bedoeld in de oorspronkelijke onderzoeksvraag. De cartoons bleken ook duidelijk te verschillen in hun potentie om productief onderzoek te genereren. De docent kan het gebruik van concept cartoons in de lessen op een hoger niveau brengen door zorgvuldig te overwegen wanneer welke cartoon te gebruiken en hoe de cartoon in te zetten om welke vaardigheden te ontwikkelen, maar ook door de discussie, het proces van het ontwerpen van de experimenten, het documenteren van resultaten in logboek of werkblad en het gebruiken van bewijsmateriaal in redeneringen te begeleiden en daarin leerlijnen uit te zetten.

Consolidation is the key concept for gaining efficiencies logistics chains and the development of new city distribution centres is a potential way of establishing consolidation. In this paper we investigate how Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) can play a major role to be supportive in the pre-feasibility of these studies. In order to understand the supportive value of this methodology we have analyzed the effects of a new main road for public transport connecting several small cities combined with a new solution for freight problems in these towns. The new solution encompasses the development of a new public warehouse. This paper contains a detailed explanation of the methodology and we present some conclusions about the pre-feasibility of the new distribution centre and the supportive role of the methodology in terms of stakeholder participation. © 2008 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. Carboxylated cellulose is an important product on the market, and one of the most well-known examples is carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). However, CMC is prepared by modification of cellulose with the extremely hazardous compound monochloracetic acid. In this project, we want to make a carboxylated cellulose that is a functional equivalent for CMC using a greener process with renewable raw materials derived from levulinic acid. Processes to achieve cellulose with a low and a high carboxylation degree will be designed.
This project develops a European network for transdisciplinary innovation in artistic engagement as a catalyst for societal transformation, focusing on immersive art. It responds to the professionals in the field’s call for research into immersive art’s unique capacity to ‘move’ people through its multisensory, technosocial qualities towards collective change. The project brings together experts leading state-of-the-art research and practice in related fields with an aim to develop trajectories for artistic, methodological, and conceptual innovation for societal transformation. The nascent field of immersive art, including its potential impact on society, has been identified as a priority research area on all local-to-EU levels, but often suffers from the common (mis)perception as being technological spectacle prioritising entertainment values. Many practitioners create immersive art to enable novel forms of creative engagement to address societal issues and enact change, but have difficulty gaining recognition and support for this endeavour. A critical challenge is the lack of knowledge about how their predominantly sensuous and aesthetic experience actually lead to collective change, which remains unrecognised in the current systems of impact evaluation predicated on quantitative analysis. Recent psychological insights on awe as a profoundly transformative emotion signals a possibility to address this challenge, offering a new way to make sense of the transformational effect of directly interacting with such affective qualities of immersive art. In parallel, there is a renewed interest in the practice of cultural mediation, which brings together different stakeholders to facilitate negotiation towards collective change in diverse domains of civic life, often through creative engagements. Our project forms strategic grounds for transdisciplinary research at the intersection between these two developments. We bring together experts in immersive art, psychology, cultural mediation, digital humanities, and design across Europe to explore: How can awe-experiences be enacted in immersive art and be extended towards societal transformation?
In order to stay competitive and respond to the increasing demand for steady and predictable aircraft turnaround times, process optimization has been identified by Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) SMEs in the aviation industry as their key element for innovation. Indeed, MRO SMEs have always been looking for options to organize their work as efficient as possible, which often resulted in applying lean business organization solutions. However, their aircraft maintenance processes stay characterized by unpredictable process times and material requirements. Lean business methodologies are unable to change this fact. This problem is often compensated by large buffers in terms of time, personnel and parts, leading to a relatively expensive and inefficient process. To tackle this problem of unpredictability, MRO SMEs want to explore the possibilities of data mining: the exploration and analysis of large quantities of their own historical maintenance data, with the meaning of discovering useful knowledge from seemingly unrelated data. Ideally, it will help predict failures in the maintenance process and thus better anticipate repair times and material requirements. With this, MRO SMEs face two challenges. First, the data they have available is often fragmented and non-transparent, while standardized data availability is a basic requirement for successful data analysis. Second, it is difficult to find meaningful patterns within these data sets because no operative system for data mining exists in the industry. This RAAK MKB project is initiated by the Aviation Academy of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdan, hereinafter: HvA), in direct cooperation with the industry, to help MRO SMEs improve their maintenance process. Its main aim is to develop new knowledge of - and a method for - data mining. To do so, the current state of data presence within MRO SMEs is explored, mapped, categorized, cleaned and prepared. This will result in readable data sets that have predictive value for key elements of the maintenance process. Secondly, analysis principles are developed to interpret this data. These principles are translated into an easy-to-use data mining (IT)tool, helping MRO SMEs to predict their maintenance requirements in terms of costs and time, allowing them to adapt their maintenance process accordingly. In several case studies these products are tested and further improved. This is a resubmission of an earlier proposal dated October 2015 (3rd round) entitled ‘Data mining for MRO process optimization’ (number 2015-03-23M). We believe the merits of the proposal are substantial, and sufficient to be awarded a grant. The text of this submission is essentially unchanged from the previous proposal.
