Crying by healthcare professionals in the medical setting is a common but understudied phenomenon. We aimed to develop a questionnaire which measures the attitudes of parent towards crying pediatricians and pediatric nurses. We assessed reliability and validity in a group of parents of children who are living with, have died from or survived a life-limiting or life-threatening-condition. The development of the PACPN was based on modification of an existing questionnaire and expert input. In a cross-sectional-design, we assessed reliability and validity for both pediatricians and pediatric nurses. Dimensionality was assessed using principal component analysis (PCA). Cronbach’s alphas were calculated for each subscale. For construct validity, participants were asked to rate an additional question regarding the goal to measure parents’ attitudes towards crying pediatricians/pediatric nurses. We hypothesized that a higher score would have a strong positive correlation with the total score of the PACPN. At the end of the questionnaire, participants were asked to rate and comment the completeness. The developed 25-item questionnaire was completed by 116 parents. The PCA revealed two dimensions: (1) family’s circumstances; (2) personal circumstances of the pediatrician/pediatric nurse. Internal consistency was good (pediatricians,.81–.93; pediatric nurses,.83–.93). The hypothesis regarding construct validity was confirmed (Spearman’s rho =.71–.75). The completeness score was 7.7 (min–max 1–10, SD = 1.51). Conclusion: The PACPN showed good internal consistency and some degree of construct validity. We assume that by adding some items with nuance to the situation and the degree of crying the completeness of the questionnaire will improve. (Table presented.)

At present, leading international agencies, such as the United Nations Environmental Programme, are largely focused on what they claim to be ‘win-win’ scenarios of ‘sustainable development’ rhetoric. These combine social, economic and environmental objectives. However, as noted by the ‘Scientists’ Warning to Humanity’, environmental integrity is the essential precondition for the healthy functioning of social and economic systems, and thus environmental protection needs to be prioritized in policy and practice. Ecological sustainability cannot be reached without realizing that population growth and economic growth, with attendant increased rates of depletion of natural resources, pollution, and general environmental degradation, are the root causes of unsustainability. This article argues that to strategically address ecological unsustainability, the social, economic and political barriers to addressing the current economic model and population growth need to be overcome. Strategic solutions proposed to the current neoliberal economy are generic – namely, degrowth, a steady-state economy, and a ‘circular economy’. Solutions to demographic issues must be sensitive to the countries' cultural, social, political and economic factors to be effective as fertility differs from country to country, and culture to culture. As discussed here, Mediterranean countries have the lowest fertility in the world, while many countries in Africa, and some in Asia, South America have stable but consistently high birthrates. This is discussed using three case studies - Tanzania, Italy, and Cambodia, focusing on the "best case" policy practice that offers more realistic hope for successful sustainability. https://doi.org/10.1007/s41207-019-0139-4 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/helenkopnina/

This article will explore the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) framework for urban environments, focusing on the perception, utilization and maintenance of parks. The case study explores the perception of urban flora and the value of greenery in everyday life in The Netherlands. The reflection section addresses the difference between conventional and C2C approaches to greenery on the one hand and current green management policies and public opinion on the other hand. The author reflects on how urban planning policies can be better geared towards public awareness of C2C, and towards the implementation of ecologically benign management of urban flora. It is proposed that an implementation of urban green management consistent with C2C is feasible and desirable. It is feasible given the favorable shifts in public opinion in relation to urban sustainability, and it is desirable due to the basic cost-benefit analysis and increased need for urban sustainability. This is a post-peer-review, pre-copyedit version of an article published in Urban Ecosystems. Effective collaboration between families and professionals in education and youth care is essential for supporting the development of children. Collaboration that centers on the child’s best interests benefits from the diverse perspectives of various stakeholders around a child. The Timeline helps to bring these perspectives together and discuss them, supporting better collaboration. The Timeline tool offers a visual representation of what is happening in a child’s life, both at home and at school. It is particularly useful when multiple professionals from youth care, education and parental support are involved. The Timeline tracks all events in chronological order from a child’s development, the support provided, to the quality of collaboration among those involved. By visually mapping the perspectives of parents and professionals, the tool facilitates open discussions. It also helps to reflect on past events and to plan what is needed to support the child’s ongoing development and education. This tool was developed based on the research project Around the Child.

Increasing attention has been paid to the ‘voice’ of people living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia, but there is a lack of clarity about how everyday life is perceived from this insider’s perspective. This study aimed to explore the everyday life experiences, challenges and facilitators of individuals with MCI and dementia living at home. A scoping review of qualitative studies, guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers Manual, was conducted. Eight databases were searched, resulting in 6345 records, of which 58 papers published between 2011 and 2021 were included. Analysis was carried out by descriptive content analysis. Findings were categorized into seven spheres of everyday life: experiences related to the condition, self, relationships, activities, environment, health and social care and public opinions. The results show many disruptions and losses in everyday life and how people try to accommodate these changes. In all areas of everyday life, people show a deep desire to have reciprocal relationships, stay engaged through participation in activities and have a sense of belonging in the community. However, more research is needed on the factors that promote and impede the sense of reciprocity and belonging.

"A proportion of those with eating disorders have also experienced traumatic events and ongoing symptoms of PTSD such as re-experiencing of the trauma and nightmares. We implemented an innovative trauma intervention called Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) to explore whether for those undergoing inpatient treatment for an eating disorder (in an underweight phase), it would be possible to treat the various trauma-related symptoms as well as the eating problems. Since this has not been investigated before, we asked the participants in this study to recount their experiences. Twelve participants who were underweight, reported a past history of trauma and were in an inpatient eating disordertreatment program participated in ImRs therapy intervention. One of these participant did not engage in the ImRs therapy because she discontinued the inpatient ED treatment. Analysis of interviews with these participants found that -although they were reluctant before the start of the treatment- the ImRs treatment during their inpatient admission had given them hope again. They added that it was important to have support from group members, sociotherapists and therapists. They shared a number of ways that the ImRs treatment could be adapted to people with eating disorders. Their experiences indicated that given these factors it was possible to treat PTSD during an underweight phase. This is important: until now, treatment for eating disorders has not specifically been trauma-focused and these tips have scope to improve the ImRs intervention and eating disorder treatment more broadly in the future."
