: Knee injuries commonly occur in later stages of competition indicating that fatigue may influence dynamic knee stability. Force sense (FS) is a submodality of proprioception influenced by muscle mechanoreceptors, and, if negatively affected by fatigue, may results in less effective neuromuscular control. OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of peripheral fatigue on FS of the quadriceps and hamstrings. DESIGN: Quasi-experimental study design. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty healthy and physically active females and males (age: 23.4±2.7 years, mass: 69.5±10.9kg, height: 169.7±9.4cm) participated. INTERVENTIONS: Fatigue was induced during a protocol with two sets of 40 repetitions, and the last set truncated at 90 repetitions or stopped if torque production dropped below 25% of peak torque. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: FS of the hamstrings and quadriceps was tested on separate days before and after three sets of isokinetic knee flexion and extension to fatigue by examining the ability to produce a target isometric torque (15% MVIC) with and without visual feedback (FS Error). Electromyographic data of the tested musculature were collected in order to calculate and determine median frequency shift. T-tests and Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests were conducted to examine pre-fatigue and post-fatigue FS Error for flexion and extension. RESULTS: Despite verification of fatigue via torque production decrement and shift in median frequency, no significant differences were observed in FS Error for either knee flexion (pre=0.54±2.28 N·m; post=0.47±1.62 N·m) or extension (pre=-0.28±2.69 N·m; post=-0.21±1.78 N·m) pre-fatigue compared to the post-fatigue condition. CONCLUSIONS: Although previous research has demonstrated that peripheral fatigue negatively affects TTDPM, it did not affect FS as measured in this study. The peripheral fatigue protocol may have a greater effect on the mechanoreceptors responsible for TTDPM than those responsible for FS. Further investigation into the effects of fatigue across various modes of proprioception is warranted.

Objective. There are no Dutch language disease-specific questionnaires for patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome available that could help Dutch physiotherapists to assess and monitor these symptoms and functional limitations. The aim of this study was to translate the original disease-specific Kujala Patellofemoral Score into Dutch and evaluate its reliability. Methods. The questionnaire was translated from English into Dutch in accordance with internationally recommended guidelines. Reliability was determined in 50 stable subjects with an interval of 1 week. The patient inclusion criteria were age between 14 and 60 years; knowledge of the Dutch language; and the presence of at least three of the following symptoms: pain while taking the stairs, pain when squatting, pain when running, pain when cycling, pain when sitting with knees flexed for a prolonged period, grinding of the patella and a positive clinical patella test. The internal consistency, test–retest reliability, measurement error and limits of agreement were calculated. Results. Internal consistency was 0.78 for the first assessment and 0.80 for the second assessment. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICCagreement) between the first and second assessments was 0.98. The mean difference between the first and second measurements was 0.64, and standard deviation was 5.51. The standard error measurement was 3.9, and the smallest detectable change was 11. The Bland and Altman plot shows that the limits of agreement are 10.37 and 11.65. Conclusions. The results of the present study indicated that the test–retest reliability translated Dutch version of the Kujala Patellofemoral Score questionnaire is equivalent of the test– retest original English language version and has good internal consistency. Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease primarily affecting older adults, mainly impacting the hip and knee joints. The increasing prevalence of OA contributes to rising healthcare demands and costs. Current OA treatment guidelines emphasize the importance of self-management education and guidance, particularly in promoting physical activity and weight management. In addition, improving sleep is crucial for managing OA. Developing effective self-management interventions necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the factors that facilitate these behaviors. Especially for changing health behaviors, it is important to focus on psychosocial factors. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to identify the psychosocial factors associated with physical activity, weight management, and sleep in adults with hip and/or knee OA. Methods: Five databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PyschINFO, Web of Science) were searched for observational studies reporting statistics on the association between psychosocial determinants and physical activity, weight management, or sleep in people with OA. The methodological quality was assessed using the Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Studies of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. After screening 5,812 articles, 31 studies were included for analysis. Results: The results showed that intention, self-efficacy, and willpower beliefs were positively associated with physical activity. Kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing and pain-related fear were negatively associated with physical activity. Depressive symptoms, negative affect, pain catastrophizing, and low willpower beliefs were associated with poor weight management. Anxiety, depression, pain anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder were related to poor sleep behavior. Conclusions This review enhances the understanding of the psychosocial factors underlying physical activity, weight management and sleep in OA. These insights are valuable for developing tailored behavior change interventions aimed at improving physical activity, weight management and sleep in patients with hip and/or knee OA.
