Een mission statement zou de drijfveer van een bedrijf overtuigend moeten weergeven. Maar in werkelijkheid zijn missies vooral obligate opsommingen van marktgerichte en maatschappelijk verantwoorde woorden. En zelden gedurfd, onderscheidend of inspirerend.

Inhoudsanalyse van websites en printedities van 59 Nederlandse nieuwsmedia toont aan dat nieuwsmedia zich weinig proactief transparant opstellen naar het publiek. Gezien de tijdsgeest in het medialandschap, die zich kenmerkt als een zoektocht naar publiek, onderscheid en kwaliteit, werpt dit kritische vragen op over hoe nieuwsmedia zich profileren en aan hun publiek verantwoorden. Uit inventarisatie van gepubliceerde beleidsdocumenten en zelfkritische rubrieken blijkt dat 60% van de onderzochte media een mission statement publiceert en 32% een introspectieve rubriek van de hoofdredactie publiceert. Nieuwsombudsmannen (3%) en publieksredacteuren (7%) zijn daarentegen dun gezaaid en slechts een enkel medium publiceert een eigen ethische code (15%) of een redactiestatuut (7%). Een op de vijf nieuwsmedia verwijst in hun colofon naar de Raad voor de Journalistiek en vooral regionale omroepen publiceren hun jaarverslagen (17%).

Regenerative forms of higher education are emerging, and required, to connect with some of the grand transition challenges of our times. This paper explores the lived experience of 21 students learning to navigate a regenerative form of higher education in the Mission Impact course at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. This semester-length course ran for two iterations with the intention of connecting the students with local transitions towards a more circular society, one where products are lasting and have multiple lives when they are shared, refurbished, or become a source for a new product. At the end of each iteration, the students reflected on their experience using the Living Spiral Framework, which served as basis for an interpretative phenomenological analysis of their journey navigating this transformative course. The results of this study include four themes; (1) Opting in—Choosing RHE, (2) Learning in Regenerative Ways, (3) Navigating Resistance(s), and (4) Transformative Impacts of RHE. Maar 'bestuurlijke informatievoorziening met EIS' vraagt om essentiele basiskennis omtrent besturen en bestuurlijke informatie binnen organisaties. In dit artikel komt met name de organisatorische vereisten en inbedding aan bod.

PURPOSE: The aim of this research is to link sustainability strategies with risk management. DESIGN/METHOD: 33 unique cases were used for the data analysis. Using the cases, the researchers built a database to operationalise the theoretical framework. This database contains data on general characteristics of an organisation, strategic characteristics (mission, vision, value proposition, core values from the Balanced Score Card categories, strategic goals), strategy characteristics of the sustainability strategies, the 17 sustainability goals of the UN, risks (strategic, financial, operational) and control measures appropriate to the risks. RESULTS/FINDINGS: The first sub-question: Which risks at a strategic, financial, and operational level differ in organisations that pursue SDG 3 Good health and wellbeing, SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth and/or SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production, or do not pursue sustainability goals? It can be answered that sustainable values lead to different risks at strategic and financial levels, but not on an operational level. The second sub-question: Which risks on a strategic, financial, and operational level differ in organisations that pursue the sustainability strategy (Retain product ownership, Product life extension and/or Design for recycling) or do not pursue a sustainability strategy? It can be answered in a similar way as the first research question: that apparently sustainable strategies lead to different risks at strategic and financial levels, but not on an operational level. Operational risks were found but did not change in case of the sustainable strategy. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: Researchers have investigated whether pursuing the sustainability strategy (part 1) or contributing to the achievement of SDGs (part 2) by an organisation causes a change in strategic, financial and/or operational risks. Patterns were sought, not the magnitude of a change, because of the number of cases examined.
