Dutch National Sports Organizations (NSFs) is currently experiencing financial pressures. Two indications for this are described in this paper i.e. increased competition in the sports sector and changes in subsidy division. Decreasing incomes from subsidies can be compensated with either increasing incomes from a commercial domain or increasing incomes from member contributions. This latter solution is gaining interest as a solution for the uncertainties. Many NSFs have therefore participated in a special marketing program in order to enlarge their marketing awareness and create a marketing strategy, in order to (re)win market share on the sports participation market and gain a more stable financial situation. This paper introduces my research related to the introduction of marketing techniques within NSFs and the change-over to become market oriented. An overview of existing literature about creating marketing strategies, their implementation, and market orientation is given. This outline makes obvious that the existing literature is not sufficient for studying the implementation of marketing techniques and market orientation within NSFs. Therefore, it shows the scientific relevance of my research. The paper concludes with the chosen research methodology.

This last solution has been the motive for the increasing interest in the use of marketing techniques as a solution for the growing uncertainties. Many NNSFs have participated in a special marketing program in order to enlarge their marketing awareness and create a marketing strategy. This paper deals with possible impediments resulting from the implementation of the marketing strategies. It is primarily based on a literature review, however, the first results from a qualitative research to the increasing use of marketing techniques among NNSFs provides insights in the experienced impediments of NNSFs .

Summary Project objectives This study fits into a larger research project on logistics collaboration and outsourcing decisions. The final objective of this larger project is to analyze the logistics collaboration decision in more detail to identify thresholds in these decisions. To reach the overall objectives, the first step is to get a clearer picture on the chemical and logistics service providers industry, sectors of our study, and on logistics collaboration in these sectors. The results of this first phase are presented in this report. Project Approach The study consists of two parts: literature review and five case studies within the chemical industry. The literature covers three topics: logistics collaboration, logistics outsourcing and purchasing of logistics services. The five case studies are used to refine the theoretical findings of the literature review. Conclusions Main observations during the case studies can be summarized as follows: Most analyzed collaborative relationships between shippers and logistics service providers in the chemical industry are still focused on operational execution of logistics activities with a short term horizon. Supply management design and control are often retained by the shippers. Despite the time and cost intensive character of a logistics service buying process, shippers tendering on a very regular basis. The decision to start a new tender project should more often be based on an integral approach that includes all tender related costs. A lower frequency of tendering could create more stability in supply chains. Beside, it will give both, shippers and LSPs, the possibility to improve the quality of the remaining projects. Price is still a dominating decision criterion in selecting a LSP. This is not an issue as long as the comparison of costs is based on an integral approach, and when shippers balance the cost criterion within their total set of criteria for sourcing logistics services. At the shippers' side there is an increased awareness of the need of more solid collaboration with logistics service providers. Nevertheless, in many cases this increased awareness does not actually result in the required actions to establish more intensive collaboration. Over the last years the logistics service providers industry was characterized by low profit margins, strong fragmentation and price competition. Nowadays, the market for LSPs is changing, because of an increasing demand for logistics services. To benefit from this situation a more pro-active role of the service providers is required in building stronger relationships with their customers. They should pay more attention on mid and long term possibilities in a collaborative relation, in stead of only be focused on running the daily operation.

Biodiversity preservation is often viewed in utilitarian terms that render non-human species as ecosystem services or natural resources. The economic capture approach may be inadequate in addressing biodiversity loss because extinction of some species could conceivably come to pass without jeopardizing the survival of the humans. People might be materially sustained by a technological biora made to yield services and products required for human life. The failure to address biodiversity loss calls for an exploration of alternative paradigms. It is proposed that the failure to address biodiversity loss stems from the fact that ecocentric value holders are politically marginalized and underrepresented in the most powerful strata of society. While anthropocentric concerns with environment and private expressions of biophilia are acceptable in the wider society, the more pronounced publicly expressed deep ecology position is discouraged. “Radical environmentalists” are among the least understood of all contemporary opposition movements, not only in tactical terms, but also ethically. This paper seeks to contribute to sustainable business model innovation (SBMI) literature. It aims to do so by putting forward a relatively simple tool that simultaneously calculates the financial value alongside sustainability impact based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of a proposed business model innovation. For small businesses to validate the outcome of a proposed SBMI, some form of sustainability measurement will be necessary. Simple tooling specifically aimed at small businesses do not exist. We address this gap in how to predict or create a prognosis of the combined financial and sustainability effect of a proposed business model (BM) in a frugal (easy, time and knowledge effective) and effectual (allowing for iterations, available means and calculating affordable loss) manner. The tool is called the Pos-FSBC (Positive Financial and Sustainability Business Case). The instrument is a calculation model in Excel where users insert a limited number of numerical variables. Alongside financial variables the tool uniquely links the key variable ∆ SDG to the expected quantity sold, it then calculates the contribution to the SDGs in a relevant and measurable unit. By being successful with a sustainable innovation, the tool helps businesses drive out nonsustainable competitors. The tool has been iteratively developed and tested in several students’ projects and in a pilot with practitioners. Based on the findings we propose more iterations to develop an understanding whether the tool inspires business change and if so how.

We zitten momenteel in een transitie-periode waarin we van een lineaire economie op basis van bestaande business modellen gericht op economische waarde maximalisatie toegaan naar een circulaire economie, waar business modellen streven naar waarde behoud. De volgende stap is de overgang naar een regeneratieve of restauratieve economie, waarin niet alleen economische waarde, maar ook ecologische en sociale waarde wordt gecreëerd (meervoudige waardecreatie). Vanuit accounting perspectief is een parallelle ontwikkeling zichtbaar. Ons huidige accounting systeem is met name gericht op economische waarde. Als gevolg van de transitie van een lineaire economie naar een circulaire economie, zijn er accounting modellen en frameworks in ontwikkeling gericht op meervoudige waardecreatie. De auteurs zijn echter van mening dat in de literatuur een cruciale gap bestaat tussen de ontwikkeling van accounting en meervoudige waardecreatie, en dat huidige modellen en frameworks gericht op meervoudige waarde vooral leiden tot ‘greenwashing’. In deze bijdrage gaan wij na in hoeverre de vigerende concepten van accounting bruikbaar zijn om te sturen op meervoudige waarde. Onder sturen wordt in dit kader bedoeld het bepalen, meten en waarderen. Dit doen wij aan de hand van een conceptuele analyse waarbij we de toepassing van de vigerende accounting concepten ten aanzien van profit vergelijken met mogelijke toepassing van deze concepten in relatie tot people en planet. Wij concluderen dat deze concepten over het algemeen niet toepasbaar zijn voor people en planet. Wij stellen daarom een alternatieve benadering voor, waarbij wij menen dat vigerende accounting concepten grotendeels toepasbaar zijn op people en planet. Dit is gebaseerd op een aanpak waarin het huidige ontologische uitgangspunt van accounting wordt verlaten en waarin we een aangepast ontologisch uitgangspunt verder uitwerken aan de hand van de Triple Depreciation Line (TDL) van Rambaud & Richard (2015). Tenslotte hebben we kritiekpunten geformuleerd op de TDL systematiek en stellen we een alternatieve TDL systematiek voor. Hiermee beoogt dit paper een bijdrage te leveren aan het inzichtelijk maken van de praktische en conceptuele problemen bij de toepassing van vigerende accounting concepten in een circulaire economie, om vervolgens mogelijke oplossingsrichtingen aan te reiken, gericht op bescherming, herstel en regeneratie van natuurlijk en sociaal kapitaal.

The common thread running through the essays of two dozen nature writers and activists hailing from a range of disciplines and offering varied perspectives is their shared concern about population growth. All contributors see population growth as a major force behind our most serious ecological problems, including global climate change, habitat loss and species extinctions, air and water pollution, and food and water scarcity.
