At the beginning of May 2020 Inholland students received an invitation to participate in a large international study on the corona crisis impact on student life and studies. Almost 3000 students participated. This factsheet shows data on their lifestyleand their resilience. But also on their worries about corona, their knowledge of it and their opinion on the information supply.

At the beginning of May 2020 all Inholland-students received an invitation to participate in a large international study on the corona crisis impact on student life and studies. This poster, presented by the Study Success Research Group, covers relevant results divided in four themes. These themes are student wellbeing, student engagement, satisfaction and the coronavirus. To determine student wellbeing we asked students about their feelings and contacts. Student engagement is phrased in time allocation and engagement. We also wanted to find out how satisfied students were with things like ICT facilities, quality of education and provision of information. Of course we asked students about (not) having corona and adhering to the measures.

From the onset of the Corona crisis, a specific policy challenge was identified in the Netherlands: How to motivate young people to adhere to the behavioral measures, such as physical distancing? Young people have an important role to play in stopping the virus from spreading, but they may be more difficult to reach and less motivated and able to adhere to the guidelines than adults. Mid-March, Moniek Buijzen was invited to consult the behavioral unit of the Dutch national health institute (RIVM) on communication and behavioral change among youth. She immediately called together the Dutch Young Consumer Network, which consists of scholars with expertise in communication directed at children and adolescents. Over the months, our network has been approached by policymakers, campaign developers, and journalists and engaged in a wide variety of advice activities. Even though the crisis is not over yet, we would like to share the collaborative approach that we took to harness our expertise and, most importantly, the specific tool that we used to share it.

Blog over corona-apps. Inmiddels wordt er vanuit de overheid zelf gewerkt aan een app die de GGD kan helpen bij het contactonderzoek. Dit is dus alleen de app om nieuwe besmettingen te traceren, en niet een app om de gezondheidstoestand te rapporten. Daarbij deelt de overheid de tussentijdse resultaten met alle burgers. Op deze manier kan iedereen meekijken en meewerken aan de app. De overheid heeft inmiddels doorgegeven begin juli te starten met het testen van de corona-app in de regio Twente.Geschreven in het kader van het project Cybersecurity Noord-Nederland.

I have been limiting my news intake since week 2 of the corona crisis, saving it up for the evening, when I read the physical papers (Het Parool and NRC) and we watch the traditional 8 o’clock national news at NPO1, a Dutch habit I must have lost some 30 years ago. Around week 3 I discovered a series of smart phone witness accounts broadcasted on Dutch public television around 10.15pm to wrap up the day, called ‘frontberichten’. Because of geo-blocking audiences outside of NL cannot watch it but there is a Facebook account where you see the short episodes (I am not on FB). They are all in Dutch (if you are inside NL, you can watch them here). The idea is simple. Those working in the ‘vital professions’ can send the mobile video clips via the usual platforms. If these professionals have been approached by a production company or whether they have indeed taken the initiative themselves remains unclear; same can be said of the selection. This is further compiled by a traditional TV format, including smooth editing, music and in-between clips here and there. Apart from these largely invisible aspects, the content is impressive.

Toen in maart 2020 de scholen sloten in verband met de corona-pandemie, werd het onderwijs enorm op de proef gesteld. Maar met de gebruikelijke flexibiliteit van leraren ging iedereen op zoek naar andere manieren om leerlingen les te kunnen geven. In dit artikel doen de auteurs verslag van een vragenlijstonderzoek onder Nederlandse leerkrachten naar problemen en de kansen in tijden van schoolsluitingen.

De afgelopen negen maanden zijn met elkaar gegroeid naar blended, hybride en online onderwijs met ook zo’n 30% op campus. Digitaal kan er veel meer dan we dachten, maar we missen de ‘chemie en het kletsen’ in de klas, blijkt uit ons onderzoek. Men zegt: ‘Voor echt goed onderwijs moet je elkaar zien, elkaar ontmoeten'. In deze interactieve workshop vinden we woorden voor wat we dan missen op het gebied van ‘community in de klas’ en verkennen hoe we dat toch kunnen verkrijgen. Na afloop van de workshop hebben deelnemers een idee of en hoe je community kan creëren in de (post) corona klas.
