Abstract Aim: To determine whether the level of gross motor function and functional skills in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and cerebral visual impairment (CVI) as well as caregiver assistance are lower in comparison with the corresponding group of children experiencing CP without CVI. Method: Data aggregated from 23 children experiencing CP with CVI were compared with data from children with CP without CVI matched for Gross Motor Function Classifi cation System, mental development and age at testing. Scores for Gross Motor Function Measure-88 (GMFM-88) and the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory-NL (PEDI-NL) were employed to compare the level of gross motor function, functional skills and caregiver assistance between both groups. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was utilized with a signifi cance level of p 0.05. Results: Children with CP with CVI, mean ( SD) age 6.4 1.5, scored signifi cantly lower than those with CP without CVI, mean age 6.3 1.6, on all GMFM-88 dimensions and the total score ( p 0.001) and on the PEDI-NL in the sections of Functional Skills and Caregiver Assistance as well as in those of domains self-care ( p 0.001), mobility ( p 0.001) and social functioning ( p 0.001). Concerning the modifi cations scale, the scores for children with CP and CVI were signifi cantly lower regarding mobility (no modifi cation , p 0.05), social functioning (no modifi cation, p 0.05) and social functioning (child-oriented, p 0.05). Conclusion: CVI contributes to diminished gross motor function and functional skills in children experiencing CP with CVI compared with children with CP without CVI. Children with CP and CVI also require increased support at the level of caregiver assistance. Specifi c interventions need to be developed for children experiencing CP with CVI in order to improve gross motor function, functional skills and caregiver assistance.

To evaluate the effectiveness of Employee Assistance Program (EAP) interventions, the Workplace Outcome Suite (WOS) was developed. This study aims to determine if the new WOS 5-item version can be used to approximate the WOS 25-item version without excessive loss of reliability, validity, or sensitivity. A quantitative psychometric evaluation study design was employed. Secondary data analysis of the WOS 25-item questionnaire was conducted before and after EAP services were delivered to participants. This analysis used 2046 data responses from 1023 participants. Quantitative data analysis included descriptive statistics, Cohen’s d, paired t-test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank (non-parametric test), and bivariate factor analysis. Findings demonstrate that the WOS 5-item version can successfully detect changes in workplace functioning. Within all five constructs, users’ scores improved after EAP interventions, indicating improvement in mental health. Significant changes were detected for absenteeism, presenteeism, work engagement, and workplace distress. Bivariate correlation results indicate the WOS 5-item is a good representation of the 25-item version. There are strong correlations between each item on the WOS-5 and the corresponding items in each construct on the WOS-25. This evidence suggests the WOS 5-item version can be used to approximate the WOS 25-item version without excessive loss of reliability, validity, or sensitivity.

Accessible legal assistance is crucial to ensuring access to justice for all and essential for the rule of law and a functioning democracy. Many people in the Netherlands, especially vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, rely on frontline legal services at a local level for access to justice. Frontline legal assistance provides information and advice, while secondary legal assistance offers procedural assistance. When people face barriers, for example due to limited language proficiency or limited digital skills, in seeking assistance from frontline professionals, they may not be referred to a lawyer or a court, and thus be limited in their access to justice. Based on recent (empirical) research on the accessibility of (frontline) legal assistance, the authors reflect on the question how research can contribute to access to justice and the rule of law in the Netherlands.

"Purpose – Little is known about effective supervision of offenders with debt. This multiple case study aims to gain insight into working elements in offender supervision on debt. This is important for probation officers to choose the most effective interventions in daily offender supervision. Design/methodology/approach – This study included five best practice cases based on both interviews with involved professionals and clients and client file information. One case was described in detail to illustrate what probation officers and clients encounter when working on debt. All five cases were analyzed thematically using patternmatching techniques and crosscase syntheses on debt background, current supervision, barriers and working elements. Findings – Organization processes and lack of aftercare hinder effective supervision. Close collaboration with other professionals (e.g. debt counselors) is important in supervising clients with debt. The client’s own behavior and motivation for supervision are crucial in the success of debt supervision and can be both hindering and effective. Working elements in supervision depend on personal characteristics of professionals involved and on the extent to which elements of a working alliance, particularly trust and bonding, are built. Practical implications – Support and facilitation from probation organizations regarding primary conditions and collaboration, training professionals in methods of stimulating clients motivation and an effective working alliance are essential to supervise clients with debt adequately. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no other in-depth study has yet been conducted on working elements in supervision of probationers with debt."

Smart speakers are heralded to make everyday life more convenient in households around the world. These voice-activated devices have become part of intimate domestic contexts in which users interact with platforms.This chapter presents a dualstudy investigating the privacy perceptions of smart speaker users and non-users. Data collected in in-depth interviews and focus groups with Dutch users and non-users show that they make sense of privacy risks through imagined sociotechnical affordances. Imagined affordances emerge with the interplay between user expectations, technologies, and designer intentions. Affordances like controllability, assistance, conversation, linkability, recordability, and locatability are associated with privacy considerations. Viewing this observation in the light of privacy calculus theory, we provide insights into how users’ positive experiences of the control over and assistance in the home offered by smart speakers outweighs privacy concerns. On the contrary, non-users reject the devices because of fears that recordability and locatability would breach the privacy of their homes by tapping data to platform companies. Our findings emphasize the dynamic nature of privacy calculus considerations and how these interact with imagined affordances; establishing a contrast between rational and emotional responses relating to smart speaker use.Emotions play a pivotal role in adoption considerations whereby respondents balance fears of unknown malicious actors against trust in platform companies.This study paves the way for further research that examines how surveillance in the home is becoming increasingly normalized by smart technologies.

The aim of this study is to clarify how pre-service teachers perceive mentor teachers' use of mentoring skills. Sixty stimulated-recall interviews were conducted, each in connection with a previously recorded mentoring dialogue. A quantitative analysis showed that six types of mentoring skills appeared to be perceived by pre-service teachers as offering emotional support and five others as offering task assistance. After mentor teachers were trained in mentoring skills, shifts in their frequencies of use of distinct skills, as observed by independent raters, corresponded to a considerable extent with shifts in frequencies of pre-service teacher perceptions of mentor teachers' mentoring behaviour.
