Abstract The purpose of the Business Model Template (BMT) is to help you turn your idea into a viable project or organization. To illustrate this, two real-life case studies are offered in this chapter. Firstly, the KipCaravan project, which is a mobile home—a caravan—for chickens. It involves low-scale egg production in several locations. Secondly, the Sun at School NSV2 project in the city of Nijmegen. For both projects you will find a step-by-step description of the different routes followed. As you will see, the interpretation of the building blocks is different for every project and there is no best order in which to stack the building blocks. Bear in mind that both projects are still up and running successfully at the time of writing. These examples are shown in simplified versions and with the benefit of hindsight, of course. Perhaps the essence of doing business is having the courage to start without a ready-made recipe.

Ja, het kan en bestaat echt: een school waar kinderen zorgen voor pony’s, geiten en varkens; waar ouders een boomhut bouwen, er een ‘samentuin’ door de school en de buurtvrijwilligers wordt onderhouden, waar een VIP-hut staat waarin leerlingen problemen oplossen, waar gymles wordt gegeven met boomtakken, een oude caravan een poppenhoek herbergt, begeleiders als coteachers samenwerken, een doorgaande individuele ontwikkelingslijn voor kinderen van 0 tot 12 vanzelfsprekend is, een voedselbos in stand wordt gehouden, een buitentheater dienst doet als skatebaan voor de buurt, en zo veel meer! The research group of the Lectoraat Groene Leefomgeving van Steden has published this book to show that charrettes represent a highly interesting new component of the teaching programme at Van Hall Larenstein. They enable students to get a first taste of the professional setting they might end up working in, and teachers to tailor their teaching to professional practice. The charrettes also enable Van Hall Larenstein to enter into numerous new collaborations with Dutch and international partners, and it also uses the charrettes to show how interesting learning can be and – at least as importantly – how much fun. The teachers and organisers of the charrettes hope that this book may inspire the development of many new charrettes.

In dit boek wil de kenniskring van het lectoraat Groene Leefomgeving van Steden duidelijk maken dat de charette een zeer interessante verrijking is van het onderwijs aan Van Hall Larenstein. Studenten kunnen even snuffelen aan de beroepspraktijk waarin ze misschien later komen te werken. Docenten kunnen hun onderwijsmethoden aanscherpen aan diezelfde praktijk. Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein vindt via de charettes allerlei nieuwe samenwerkingsverbanden met nationale en internationale partners, en kan via de charettes laten zien hoe interessant en – zeker niet minder belangrijk – leuk het onderwijs kan zijn. De docenten en de organisatoren van deze charettes hopen dat dit boek een inspiratie mag zijn om nieuwe charettes te blijven organiseren.

Purpose – The hospitality industry creates a distinctive context in which learning takes place. The industry’s international perspective and large globalisation play an important role in learning, as well as the operational and structural features that give meaning to learning and development in the hospitality industry. This explorative research therefore studies the relation between workplace learning and organisational performance in the Dutch hospitality industry. Design/methodology/approach – The qualitative research is done through 15 in-depth interviews with general managers and HR managers of Dutch hotels with three or more stars and at least ten employees. Findings – It can be concluded that there is a relation between workplace learning and organisational performance in the hospitality industry, as the participants in this research and the literature both mention workplace learning enhances organisational performance. Originality/value – Little research has been done on learning and organisational performance specifically, in the (Western) hospitality industry. This research therefore focusses on HRD and studies the influence of workplace learning on organisational performance in the Dutch hospitality industry.

Dit eindrapport doet verslag van een door ZonMw gesubsidieerd, ontwerpgericht onderzoek (looptijd maart 2022 – juni 2024) met de volgende onderzoekvraag: Wat zijn de ontwerpprincipes voor jeugdparticipatieve pedagogische vrijplaatsen, die bijdragen aan een veerkrachtige identiteitsontwikkeling van jongeren? Jongeren en professionals uit de brede jeugdsector werkten samen aan het ontwerpen van fysieke en online pedagogische vrijplaatsen. Het resultaat is een blauwdruk met ontwerpprincipes voor het jeugdparticipatief ontwerpen van pedagogische vrijplaatsen. Het rapport beschrijft de aanleiding voor het onderzoek, doel- en vraagstelling, een theoretische duiding van de centrale concepten, de methodesectie, analyse en resultaten en ten slotte de conclusie, reflectie en samenvatting.

This report investigates prior experiences and impacts of the European Capital of Culture (ECoC) with the aim of informing preparation plans for Leeuwarden and Fryslân to organize the event in 2018. The longterm benefits that the ECoC tend to be both tangible through improvements in facilities, and intangible as self-confidence and pride increase as the result of celebrating the destination, its culture and history.
