The paper briefly describes the outcome of an approach to inventory of the current situation, inventory user demands and suggestions to improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort in Borgers' church.

De herbezinning en vernieuwing van de contemporaine erfgoedzorg wordt zichtbaar in de in deze bundel verzamelde essays. Ze laten een zelfbewuste erfgoedzorg zien die zich niet schikt naar of verzet tegen het onvermijdelijke, maar een hoofdrol wil spelen in het hart van de samenleving. Ze wil zorgen voor de articulatie en praktische vormgeving van duurzaamheid in de meest brede betekenis van het woord, zowel economisch als sociaal. Uit de essays blijkt dat het een nog onvoltooide zoektocht betreft, waarin onderzoek, onderwijs en een sterk engagement met de praktijk een hoofdrol spelen. Positie, ervaring en bereik maken dat het hbo hierin het voortouw kan en wil nemen.

The energy transition is a highly complex technical and societal challenge, coping with e.g. existing ownership situations, intrusive retrofit measures, slow decision-making processes and uneven value distribution. Large scale retrofitting activities insulating multiple buildings at once is urgently needed to reach the climate targets but the decision-making of retrofitting in buildings with shared ownership is challenging. Each owner is accountable for his own energy bill (and footprint), giving a limited action scope. This has led to a fragmented response to the energy retrofitting challenge with negligible levels of building energy efficiency improvements conducted by multiple actors. Aggregating the energy design process on a building level would allow more systemic decisions to happen and offer the access to alternative types of funding for owners. “Collect Your Retrofits” intends to design a generic and collective retrofit approach in the challenging context of monumental areas. As there are no standardised approaches to conduct historical building energy retrofits, solutions are tailor-made, making the process expensive and unattractive for owners. The project will develop this approach under real conditions of two communities: a self-organised “woongroep” and a “VvE” in the historic centre of Amsterdam. Retrofit designs will be identified based on energy performance, carbon emissions, comfort and costs so that a prioritisation strategy can be drawn. Instead of each owner investing into their own energy retrofitting, the neighbourhood will invest into the most impactful measures and ensure that the generated economic value is retained locally in order to make further sustainable investments and thus accelerating the transition of the area to a CO2-neutral environment.
The Academy for Leisure & Events has always been one of the frontrunners when it comes to the development, design and implementation of cultural tourism and creative industry business models as well as lifelong learning programmes.These programmes are attended by a variety of leisure and tourism professionals, including public authorities in leisure, culture and nature fields.The CULTURWB project addresses the need for strengthening the development of the cultural tourism industry.The experts from BUas together with the other project partners have utilised diverse research methodologies (marketing and branding, strategy business planning, digital tourism, sustainable development, strategy and action plan implementation, etc.) to develop and pilot a toolkit for Lifelong Learning courses in the field of cultural tourism and heritage. Uit de resultaten wordt duidelijk dat - alhoewel verduurzaming een koppelkans was van restauratie en groot onderhoud - verduurzaming een positief effect heeft op duurzame instandhouding. Door de verbetering van de energieprestatie, het verhoogd thermisch comfort en verlaagde energiekosten (in bijna alle gevallen) is het voor eigenaren interessanter en/ of gemakkelijker geworden om deze gebouwen te gebruiken en zich in te zetten voor onderhoud. In bijna alle gevallen was sprake van een positieve impact op de milieubelasting voor de komende 30 jaar, met de kanttekening dat niet alle milieuimpact is meegenomen (vermoed wordt dat de impact nog positiever is). In één geval was de milieuimpact negatief, de oorzaak is dat het energieverbruik al zeer laag was dus de materiele impact in verhouding erg groot is en in dit geval tot een negatief resultaat leidt. Samengevat wordt geconcludeerd dat erfgoedwaarden deels verloren gaan, maar in het brede perspectief op instandhouding op de lange termijn acceptabel is. En dus een positief effect heeft op de energieprestatie (één keer meer dan de landelijke ambities) en de milieubelasting. Verduurzaming is dus goed voor het gebruik en mileu, maar doet soms wel een beetje pijn. Op welke manier verduurzamen particuliere eigenaren hun rijksmonumenten? En wat zijn effecten op erfgoedwaarden, energieprestatie en milieubelasting? Deze vragen zijn in samenhang onderzocht in dit project en geven inzicht in het maatwerkproces: welke opgaven speelden er, wie waren er betrokken en waarom werden deze oplossingen gekozen. Daarnaast is de impact in kaart gebracht.
